Odd Situation Of Inauguration Cake Copycat
Lounge By Siftandwisk2 Updated 22 Jan 2017 , 9:00pm by Siftandwisk2

This is just bizarre. Duff Goldman designed and made the inauguration cake for President Obama 4 years ago. Today Goldman tweeted a photo of the cake he designed, along with a second photo of President Trump slicing an inauguration cake that is an exact copy of his cake design. Goldman said he didn't make President Trump's cake. Then added the emoji

This is odd too...more than half my post was deleted when it posted...

Wow! I will have to check that out. Wouldn't surprise me though.

Buttercream Bakeshop has come forward as the makers of the current cake. Apparently , staffers came to them a couple weeks ago (just a couple weeks ago!) with a picture of Duff's cake and a request to recreate it. The bakery says they tried to dissuade them from an exact copy but they insisted.
And Duff has now tipped his hat toward their skill at being able to recreate it so well. Also, most of the cake is a dummy. Only the bottom layer is edible.

It's so bizarre that a once in a lifetime event coordinator for such a high profile event would want to replica the cake. I live on a unique property, the gardens of which are used as an event venue. When a high profile client is involved, all event details are locked down with binding confidentiality agreements. To ensure nothing is leaked to the media all staff and all who have access to the property are required to sign non-disclosure agreement--irregardless of involvement in the event. High profile clients usually demand their events to be unique and special.

It's indeed very bizarre. But, without getting into politics, let's just say I'm not surprised.

Lol! From the call of a lone voice, they came by the thousands

Hundreds of thousands, all over the world. There were many who tried to drive down from Canada to DC and were stopped at the border.

Seems to speak to the unoriginal, copy and paste attitude of the new administration. It takes work to be original and creative. It takes nothing to grab a photo of a previous cake. It takes effort to work with a baker to design something original...............

Buttercream Bakeshop donated its proceeds from the cake to the Human Rights Campaign, one of the nation’s largest L.G.B.T. civil rights advocacy groups and one of the bakery’s favorite charities.
HA HA, all things considered. Copied and pasted the above bit from a news article

Washington Post has a great write-up about it:

Yay! Turning broken eggs into cake!

what happened all around the world yesterday....just amazing, simply amazing.

Yes, I read a news article about that. While those barred from entering at the boarder were Canadian nationals, thus not covered by our Constitution, it's was nonetheless disheartening to learn that our government was violating our First Amendment right to peaceably assemble.
And indeed the people peaceably assembled. In the US, there were only 4 arrests for disorderly conduct. That's speaks volumes to both the leadership and perspective of women.

It was gracious of Goldman to publicly let McIsaac know he's okay with what she did; an admirable of McIsaac to take responsibility. I think the take away is even in the baking business there are professional courtesies that should be adhered to. Given the event and client, Goldman should have been given a heads-up.
