Im after some advice please. I normally do my cakes in fondant and have been asked to do one with buttercream icing. I have made gum paste flowers for decoration but I am unsure how soon I can place these on the cake? (Will they soften?) I would appreciate any advise you can give me. Thanks

I never had them soften.  Generally I placed the flowers after I got to the venue, but not always.

Of course, it will depend on the type of b'cream you are using but like leah I never had a problem w/gumpaste flowers softening on American B'cream and I often placed them one or even 2 days before delivery.
