Thank you, sweet @Shanelly ! They did love it and the children were so excited (by so much cake, I think)! I was so grateful to be given the opportunity.
Shoot @Brooke14 , I was hoping we Tennesseans could play together. When I was in college, I used to go spelunking in Johnson's Saltpeter Cave in Johnson City. It was cool, but I don't think I have ever seen the above ground Johnson City.
@SandraSmiley where do you live? I do think I have ever heard of this cave. I am not a native of here. I am originally from KY.
@Brooke14 I live just West of Nashville outside Ashland City. Johnson's Saltpeter Cave is not an all-natural cave. It was a saltpeter mine that, I believe, was used during the Civil War. I've been spelunking in Kentucky too :o))
Almost exactly a year later I finally got my first call to action for Icing Smiles!! I have accepted the call, and am trying to figure out what to do design wise. Little boy is turning 8 and they have requested a "dream" Ninja Turtle themed cake. The date is only 13 days away! Eeeeek!
Oh my gosh!!! So awesome, yeah, I hardly get calls from them so started making cakes for foster kids, you sign up as you want and do one at least once a month, but the cakes can be very simple. You are going to have so much fun, please post pics when it’s done!!
Sweettherapy - I looked into doing cakes for foster kids in my area, but for some reason the closest home is over an hour away! I figured there had to be something closer, but I have yet to find it. I am very nervous, as you never know exactly what their expectations are, and I'm gonna have to figure something out in between working my actual full-time job. lol. I'm searching through Google and Cake Central trying to get some ideas!
Aw man!! I live in Los Angeles so the foster kids are necessarily in group homes, they can be in any foster home, the foster care agencies just request a cake, it’s an organization call 4 goodness cakes....you should start your own in your area :)
