Got another question..

How do you get luster dust to stick to Chocolate? I need a recipe for mixing luster dust. Does anyone have an easy one? I did the tools on my tool cake in chocolate & MMF covered in luster dust. Some I covered w/ fondant paint. I tried to color the chocolate in luster dust & in fondant paint but neither would stick to the chocolate. I'm just getting into fondant & chocolate so I have no idea of all the things you can color them with. Also just getting into luster dust. I love that stuff! I've seen so many beautiful cakes with it. Thanks for any help! thumbs_up.gif

For chocolate molds, I just brush them on dry, I find it works best for me. But you can mix a bit in lemon extract or vanilla. I just find that because of the texture of chocolate or candy melts that is the way to go, dry.

Haha, I am with you on that one. I think the most fun I had with a cake was the one that I did bake and make everything for, but daughter did the icing. It just got rid of one step and I got to do the fun stuff! Just wish someone could be suckered into doing the clean-up! icon_cry.gif

I agree, the luster dust makes such an elegant look almost anyway you use it! I've just bought my first chocolate mold and some of the chocolate wafers, and am looking forward to trying that new phase of decorating.

My kitchen elves have totally taken off, too much clean-up for them I guess. I don't mind the baking, really like the decorating, but cleaning up after myself is a real pain! Janice

Yep the mess isn't fun at all!! My DH helps me & that I am very thankful for!! He has about 8 years till her retires from the AF & we are talking about opening up a Cake Shop!!! We actually talked about it this week! He told me he would do all the cleaning & I'd do all the baking & decorating. He'll also handle the numbers! I'm horrible w/ numbers! Then I will handle the business part of the shop. It's a big dream but I do think we can do it!!!! I'm praying for it!!

What is Luster Dust? I'm new to decorating, so I haven't even heard about Luster Dust.

It is a very fine powder that has an iridescent quality to it, a sparkle. Comes in many different colours. There are also petal dusts that mimic the colours of flowers and pearl dusts that have a pearl effect to them.

Luster dust is soo pretty!! You'll have to try it missmelbox! Look in my photos under my name, you'll see a groom's cake that has got tools on it. The silver is luster dust.

I put my luster dust on chocolate in a wierd way. i left my chocolate in the molds a long time and when i pulled them out they got really sweaty really fast so i lightly dried them off with a paper towel and then brushed the dust on. there was just enough moisture left for it to stick and it looked good. so my accident turned out well.

Turtle,

I'm so excited for you. Keep the dream alive. If at all possible and you see that it's a go..start looking at equipment auctions....

That will be your biggest investment.

DO NOT LEASE your equipment. If you ever need to borrow money for expansion.....your equipment can be your collateral if you own it.
