K8 I definitely saw some grouchiness. CC has been so downgraded and has so many problems (why go live until everything had been tested?), I'm outta here. Maybe I'll check back in a month or two to see what got fixed.

shanter, yes it's definitely a lesser/struggling format so far but we all know  the cc crew is working to make it better --

don't know just speculating -- seems maybe there was a deadline where they would have had to re-up w/huddler -- maybe you just have to slap it on the wall and see what sticks then fiddle and fix the rest? idk i just like to talk about cakes --

i do know when i've made my websites it has been an all consuming adventure for a coupla* intense days then many many more hours but still could not compare to all the capabilities in place here, er used to be in place here ;)

i understand the need to take a break sometimes -- see you when you get back -- don't be too long i've learned a lot from you -- and even though i avoid punctuation i am more careful with my grammar -- i said select the other day instead of choose/chose 'cause i wasn't sure which one but i did use *coupla upthread 'cause i like it  best to you -- take care

Jackie, the founder of cc is developing the new site - they did not buy from someone else -- the only grouchiness I see is from people who can't adapt even though they say they can/do/are --

there has been an exhausting concentrated sleep deprived amount of hard labor put into this new launch by jackie, a sweet cake person we all have known for years and years and I think appreciation is in order --

yes they want reports on where they need to fix things but let's grow up a little here -- if it's not good enough for you make your own or wait a few it's getting better all the time

And this is why a professional should have done it, not a very nice cake person.

This site generates income, it's not being done from the goodness of people's hearts so it should be fair to ask for a reasonable response. I posted problems in the welcome thread (which seems to have vanished?) along with lots of other people. We were told to use the help tab. I did this and the response was to watch that thread for updates. No info, no apologies for the emails clogging my inbox (all of which are either errors or point to non existent posts),just watch this space.

Heath was snarky in that thread, telling one user that she couldn't expect her problem to be fixed in 24 hours - essentially telling her off. Trouble is that particular problem was raised by several people on the first day back and responded to so in fact it's been 5 days. If that wasn't his intended tone, he needs to re-read posts before submitting them.

It's been suggested more than  once that a list of faults be put up, and I can't see how pointing people to the help tab is a better way to do things. All this means is that everyone is in the dark about what's being done. A thread detailing the known bugs (and there are many) and whether they're being fixed now, going to be fixed or can't be fixed would help enormously.

As has been said, being tech savvy is nothing to do with it, it's simply not user friendly. No amount of saying the people who are working on it are nice is going to change that fact. It should have been thoroughly tested before release, not put out nearly a week after it was meant to be  in what appears to be a beta phase.

Well I thought it was just me who was still totally fed up.   I thought it was just me who couldn't get their old user name back.  I thought it was just me getting dozens of Error files.  I thought it was just me who felt like the crash test dummy.  I have no idea what is being done to fix it and I can understand protectiveness towards the owners as the site was fab a couple of weeks ago - but I also detected impatience directed at the users.  Not our fault actually that we cannot work out how to use the site.  I'm guessing even with a software degree you would struggle.  I also said that it felt like a beta site - if that's the case, then that was the thing missing - if we had known we would have been more prepared.  Don't launch until you are sure.  Don't think I can wait until I'm 90 for this all to be fixed as I might not be making cakes any more by then.

Hi K8Memphis,

This website is a product and if that product is faulty for whatever reason then there will be complaints and suggestions. By bringing these complaints to light noone has slighted or insulted Jackie's character. In another thread Heath was a little rude to someone who was just pointing out some problems they were experiencing which I think frustrated people. Nobody is being grouchy. They're frustrated. And yes I wouldn't be surprised if people moved to another cake forum now. I would have preferred a much longer downtime or at least a warning that there were issues rather than a message saying, 'We're getting around to it and we can't let you know when that is'. I just really don't think it's appropriate to tell people off when all they're doing is giving feedback and reporting problems.

For some reason it has posted my reply twice. Perhaps because I encountered an error?

Haha!  Exactly!  I didn't even think my post got submitted because I got a "500 error" - so imagine my surprise to see it there - yet I have notifications announcing that I'm part of threads that I never subscribed to.

As with all things that change, there is a lot of confusion, frustration and anger that appear in trying to maneuver through the changed system....and those feelings are felt on both sides....the users and the providers.  We, the users, are use to having things the way they were because they were familiar and we knew what we were doing in trying to find the answers we were looking for, sharing information, and enjoying our travel through the path we became familiar with on this particular site.  No one likes change, least of all me.  I share the confusion, frustration and anger along with the rest of you; I don't like not finding what I'm looking for without a lot of frustration or not finding it at all because I haven't figured out how to find it under the new system.  But, as frustrating, confusing and maddening as all this change can be, maybe we all need to sit back, relax, and give the system a week or two to work out the bugs, settle into a normal routine, and see how it works then.  If there are still things that need to be worked out, that is the time to contact the people in charge and see if and when they plan to re-engage those things that we care so much about and want to see re-started on CC.  I personally am not a real tech person.  I have problems figuring out how to make computers, etc., work to get what I want to get, and I often have to engage other's to help me get to where I want to be so I tend to get more frustrated than others I know when changes are made to computer programs that I use a lot.  Whether changes needed to be made to this site or not I really don't know.  Whether changes were made to this site to try to improve it's functionality or not is something I also don't know.  I know right now I miss some of the functions I was used to and liked a lot and used a lot, but there's still a chance that they ARE going to be returned to us to use, but just haven't been re-activated yet.  CC is one of the sites on my computer that I look at first thing in the morning and I have missed having it to look at this past week, but if it takes another week before it's really where I can look at it again without frustration and enjoy it, I can live with it as long as it becomes as useful and as enjoyable to me as it was before.

I know some of you are probably going to disagree with me on this posting, but I think we need to give CC a chance to get back on their feet with these changes and yes, they also need to listen to their site users about what they are hoping to see on one of their favorite sites.  Both sides also need to curb tempers, relax, sit back, and give change time to prove itself to be good or bad.  I'm sure the owners will take into account the feelings, needs and desires of the people who make them successful because without you, they wouldn't be here, but by the same token, without them, we wouldn't have this wonderful site to com to either.  It takes all of us to make CC  a success or a failure.

I'll get off my soapbox now.  And I apologize to those who I may have angered.

soooo.... what happened to Cake Central as we all knew it?  I, for one, am not using Cake Central like I used to because it changes every time I get on (IF I can get on)...I bake for a living and if I changed my recipes every time, I would never know what worked for my customers and what did not... some times change is good and some times, if it is working, why does it have to be improved?  My favorite recipes have disappeared and now there are no galleries...I cannot navigate easily, but if all our suggestions fall on deaf ears, it was a good run while it lasted...I will just have to Google my recipes to see if I can get them through that pathway.  I will try back next month.

Good grief, after all this time on a redesign and you still can't keep the spammers out?

Found this thread in an ocean of spam postings this morning. Pages and pages full of voodoo divorce specialists taking over the forum...it's a coup! Seriously, it's frustrating and a real turn off. Kinda hard to exchange ideas and share information when you have to dig for authentic posts. Surely this can be resolved.

From 2010 I have been a devoted fan of CC.  In 2011 or 2012 (or both??), my computer was "killed" twice and I strongly suspect CC.    I let one or two years go by and gradually (against a computer programmers advice) crept back onto CC.  I missed it!

Now I open the site and all I see if Love/Voodoo/weirdness spam.  In the five years I have been a member, the same trend seems to be happening over and over again----denial on the part of the two people who run (own?) this site.    [Granted, I do not have specific dates, times or proof for my 'denial accusations'.  But there are probably quite a few folks who may read this and remember a very similar history......]

Denial episode 1:  It isn't CC that is killing computers!

Denial episode 2:  Well, CC members, we have fixed the problem that was killing computers.

Denial episode 3:  It isn't CC that is STILL killing computers!

Denial episode 4:  Well, CC members, we have fixed the problem that was killing computers.

BIG DENIAL EPISODE 5 through 244:  CakeCentral magazine.

Denial episode 245:  We will have our brand-new, shiny, self-developed website that everyone will love up soon.  However, we have chosen not to let the membership know whether or not it is safe to use the new site, or, indeed, if it is even POSSIBLE to use the new site.

*******

Like others who have commented above, I have nothing personal against the owners of this site.  I LOVE(D)this site.  This site has been very important to me and I have gained an immeasurable amount of personal growth and joy from the members of this site.  I am deeply grateful to the owners of the site for providing the opportunity to share over the past years.    I will miss the site.

To the owners:  Transparency is important to the membership.  I am sorry you are having a great deal of trouble, again, BUT THIS IS YOUR BUSINESS.       Please treat it AS a business.

Well, CC members, we have fixed the problem that was killing computers.
