AOP, you already received a lot of advice from those threads you started before. After all this time you haven't done anything on your part to get what really is your cost and how much you want to sell it for. Because you are still asking the same question. And cursing will not get you anywhere.

I will gladly do as I please thank you very much. I came here just curious and bored so I started this thread, and I get attacke by all of you rude people. Yes, I'm new at this. Everything I know is self taught and Ive come so far from teaching myself everything I know. I have my prices set, this was just for fun. Now why dont all you vultures go pick on someone else.

A*falling on deaf ears*

You completely missed the point. Offering an unsolicited critique would have been rude. Asking a relevant question is not.

I can't help but notice that you also completely missed that I said it was adorable and the flaws I was pointing out were not picky.

I certainly don't know everything. I DO know how to run a Successful cake business. I do know how to produce a $200 cake. I even know how to produce what for me would have been a $275 (based on 35 servings) cake.

I also know how to make a design my own and how to persuade a client to change it a bit. I certainly wouldn't agree to create a cake that appeared to be missing anything.

No one is perfect. No one knows everything. The way we learn is by doing our homework.

This has completely spiraled out of control..no one is being rude here except you. The pricing question has been asked to death, and not just by you. It's unfair to come here and demand answers on how to essentially set up your business (pricing) and then throw a temper tantrum when people point out some home truths.

AShes not having a temper tantrum because of a pricing question. ...its the way shes being treated here thats completely uncalled for. ...yes she asked a pricing question if you are sick of pricing questions dont read or respond to that thread , pretty simple to do....

ROFL!  ha ha so you were purposefully wasting our time because you were bored.  That's just funny.

Now I'm curious, what is your price for that cake?

Hey, @savannah1986, 1986 is that the year you were born? If that `s so you are a little younger than me.

 I was born in 1981.

I so happy I found CC for 1 year being a member here I learned so much. The most important thing that I learned on CC, is Do More, Ask Less.

Maybe doing more practice cakes will help you, to be more confident in your pricing.

This is how I learn right now: marked a calendar for b-days and holidays, think of project that I want to do and just do it. I record time spent, ingredients, supplies and overhead for every cake.

Make toppers, and decorate dummy cakes and see what you want to charge for those.

That is a lot of money and time. Invest in yourself, if this is something you want to do in life.

So, I practice decorating and pricing out extra details so if someone asks me to do similar cake I know the price already.

In my area (Houston/Clear Lake area of Texas), home bakers are selling a cake that size for about $95 and I promise (no lie) an actual bakery would charge about $145. That's why I won't go into business here (not that my talents are good enough to) but if they were, I would want waaayy more than $100. I just usually do them for free for family and friends as a gift.

Seems like you might need a holiday....  from CC. It might help with the boredom you are experiencing. In the meantime if you haven't already been banned for your offensive behaviour you really should quit asking the same questions over and over. People that ask for advice but don't actually take anything away from the answers they are given quickly annoy the people that have been trying to help them.

Just brilliant Jen.

I was literally laying in bed relaxing when I decided to jump on here and yes, just for fun, see how much someone would pay for my cake. After all, I was proud of it. And when you can't afford $2000 car repair and you have good friends that are mechanics and all you need to do it buy the car part and have your friend fix it, that seems pretty good to me! Maybe you wouldn't know because none of you cold hearted hags have good enough friends. I'm very fortunate to have friends like these! so while I sit here and explain myself to you which I shouldn't need to do in the first place, maybe take a step back and check yourselves. You don't know it all and the fact that you all THINK I'm up to no good sneaky sh*t makes me think something isn't right in your freakin heads. Maybe I should have been more upfront about location.... LOL...I'm in Texas City and there is only 1 brick and mortar bakery in town and they charge $3/serving or in that range. I know because my niece ordered a cake from them about a year ago. I know in Houston, you can def command better prices! I personally know a lady out of Friendswood that charges $2/ serving and does amazing, clean beautiful work. She did a cake like that and charged a friend of mine $95.  It was also a 10inch and 8 inch cake. I was shocked because I would never sell a cake like that for that cheap and her skills are WAAAYYY better than mine. I guess because I just do it as a hobby and not a profession, I get discouraged about ever actually selling cakes because I wouldn't know where to start price point. But i do know $2/serving wouldn't cut it for me and the time/cost it takes for me to do a cake.

AThere is a cake very similar at a local bakery here and they sell for 100$ but that is for basic flavors. I know there blueberry lemon custard one similar to this is 168$ though hope that helps!

WOW $2/serving that is insane! I cant imagine that shes making any money at all! I am double that for a very basic basic basic cake. I dont get it. And youre right, you would not be properly compensated for your time with a cake like that.

Savannah1986 YOU are just down right nasty!!   All you want to do is start threads, ask for help then argue w/everyone who tries to help you.

Your mouth should be washed out with soap -- NO, even that is too good for you!!

I have to stand up for Mimi like all the others.  She's not rude and I think you should invest in one of her books!!!!!!   ;-D  They answer your question.

It was a good idea to trade the cake for mechanic work on your car, I wish i could do the same with my mechanic.  It is a cute cake, looks like you spent a long time on it.

Try not to curse on CC.  it sounds bad and looks mean and why get mean even if you're mad…do unto others….

You seem very irrational and a bit out of control.  I'm not really sure what you are SO upset and up in arms about.  You are the one that took a simple question out of context and where being completely rude about it, not the other way around.  No one is saying you are being sneaky at all.  Not sure where you are getting that but maybe I'm reading a different thread then you.  You should be proud of that cake and many people have told you that.  They made points about some of the things you have said that you completely did not get.   You should especially be proud that you had friends willing to give that much amount of work to you for just the price of that cake.  You have just been so defense and no one on this thread is understanding this and you are taking and understanding nothing from anyone's posts.  I definitely think you need to step back, take a deep breath and read peoples responses with a blank heart and head.  Don't read anything into others post, read it as is.  That is the biggest problem with these kinds of forums.  People take offense so fast thinking someone's post means one thing when it said nothing of the sort, that is just how they think it is meant.  If we all could just read a comment like it was written with no reading between the lines we would all be much happier and less fighting would be going on.

Also, I know someone else said it earlier but you must have missed it and just don't care, please stop the cuss words and there should be no name calling.  No one else has cussed or name called and that will definitely get you banned and get this thread deleted.  It is totally uncalled for
