So, do you have the SPS in front of you? If you do, check out one of the plates. See if you see a hole for it. 
If not, Google it, and look at the plates.

There is not a hole in the SPS plates for a center dowel. They do not need a center dowel. There is a little nub that is used to hang on to the cake boards but that's it.
I use SPS pretty often and there is no need for a center dowel. There is a sticky in the cake decorating forum with SPS instructions from Leah_s which are really helpful.
