I love watching Cake Boss, but not Kitchen Boss. He's boring on his own and needs the drama of his employees/family to make himself interesting. It's totally obvious that mush of it is staged though, which sucks. Like when the two guys dropped the Sweet 16 birthday cake down the stairs! Totally staged!
LOL...and don't you just love how they all NEED two sinks? Really? You NEED two sinks??? You're a couple of spoiled brats!
Absolutely!!! My hubby and I are never in the bathroom at the same time and I dont' know any other married couple who does that with both of them still alive! I'd rather have one sink and LOTS of bathroom counter space!!!
I can sit thru Cake Boss sometimes, but only if there is nothing else on TV. If he produced cutting edge cakes besides cakes that are so tacky and over the top (or, as one Poster said - a sheet cake with crispy treats) then I'd deal with the hyped drama and screaming. But 1/2 the time I want to just tell him, "Hey Buddy, 1982 called and they want their cake back".
The show I get asked about the most is DC Cupcakes... I want to poke my eyes out with a stick. Good for them that they get lines around the block for their cupcakes, but OMG those women are so obnoxious! And I would never let my complete moron bumbling mother in the kitchen to touch anything, let alone put her in front of national TV for the world to ridicule and hate. I mean, is that supposed to be cute? Because it's NOT. It totally rubs me the wrong way.
I think their big displays are ugly and look like total crap.

I'm with you! Honestly, I don't want to watch my DH brushing and flossing, nor do I want him watching me check for chin hairs !
I must confess, we have separate bathrooms...his and hers...but we don't NEED them, we just love them and if pressed, could live without them. We knew families with 5, 6, 7 kids who grew up in houses with one bathroom.
Ugh is it just me or does everyone feel like Buddy is constantly readng off a tele-prompter? I can't stand that show
I used to like Cake Boss when it first aired. I was new to cake decorating and appreciated the techniques they shared with the viewers. BUT, like every other reality show out there, it shifted more towards the personalities, and scripted drama.
I catch the show once in awhile if there's nothing else to watch. My hubby also does a great impersonation of Buddy- "Whada we gonnna dooo?!?!?!" They do some nice work, but it seems that they are trying to push the envelope by doing over the top cakes. I thought it was hilarious when he tried to say that his wife always wanted a life sized cake of herself . I don't know about you, but I don't know anyone with that big of an ego. I remember seeing a life sized bride cake that was listed as one of the worst wedding cakes on a blog. The cake was well done, just considered obnoxious and in poor taste.
He seems to be trying to exploit his popularity as much as he can before someone new comes along. Look at how far Rachel Ray took her career. He's got 2 shows now and there's always the chance of another contestant based show. He's got books, tours and a factory to open soon. Reality TV does seem to open many doors, if you can stay popular.
It's interesting to watch but I'm not that big of a fan. I'm curious to see if he overextends himself and how he will handle it all.
In my People magazine a couple weeks ago, they had DC cupcakes in there and they charge $50+ for 1 DOZEN CUPCAKES! Hello, that's a lot of $. They really do need to put prices of cakes and things on these shows so people would realize what a great deal they are getting from those of you that aren't highly publicized and famous.
I LOVE Cake Boss. Watch it all the time. Sometimes I like DC cupcakes but other times they really annoy the crap out of me. The blond sister seems kind of air headed.
Judging by the 3.5 hour wait to get into Carlo's Bakery last weekend, the publicity is working. My friends met Madeline, she took a picture with them and thanked everyone for waiting and coming to the bakery. They definitely back it up, the pastries and cupcakes were delicious.
I do like the show Cake Boss, although I agree that the fake drama they create is silly. I enjoy Kitchen Boss too, I've printed out a bunch of recipes I can't wait to try.
Does anyone know what happened to the Cake Girls? Did they ever rebuild after the fire?
mine is cupcake wars.....we do cakes but mostly specialize in gourmet high end cupcakes, so people come in and see our cupcakes and automatically think we have to watch it all the time, i think i have seen one episode, my reasoning is simple, i work ALL the time, if not at the shop then at home taking care of my family, i dont have time to watch tv.
Even over here in the UK i get asked the old Cake Boss question - grrr hate that show, all the fake drama and too much shouting!!! Caking should be callllmmmmmm!!! lol!
Mind you in my previous life (pre children), i was a forensic scientist...if one more person asked me if i watched CSI..... NO you can not get DNA results in 3 seconds from a glove that the murderer just LOOKED at!!!!

haha!! that made me laugh!

TV is affecting all kinds of folks! My hubby's sister is a retired detective with the sheriff's dept and told us about an incident of kids taking baseball bats to mailboxes. One mailbox owner asked if she was going to test for DNA!!! I didn't know baseball bats HAD dna!!!
I worked with a guy who did photography on the side and I was always teasing him about special camera tricks and angles by saying, "Sure you can! They do it on CSI all the time!"
My neighbor had a theft happen to her and somehow they got the guys phone number and were putting a trace on the phone to find out who he was, etc. Told her it would take 6 weeks to get the info. I laughed and was teasing her when I said, "Nah! It doesn't take that long! They get that info in just seconds on Law and Order!"
And the one that affects me personally is William Shatner implying to people they can talk a hotel down to twenty bucks for a hotel room becuase for some reason they think selling a room that puts me in the red is better than not selling the room at all. (Sound familiar, cake makers?) I REALLY HATE IT when people walk in and try to priceline me!!

Are we related?!!haha I swear when I was reading this I was thinking to myself "That's EXACTLY what I would say!!" Too funny!!!
I do kinda feel badly though because aren't some of them members of CC? Oh well, if you put yourself out there you have to be prepared for the criticism, right?
[quote="carmijok"]The one show I detest... and I detest it with all my heart.. is DC Cupcakes. I'm so happy they can attach cupcakes to some stupid form --that takes real talent--but seriously....the fake drama makes me sick! And that guy with all the hair...and he's back there with the food and not pulling it back! Yick! And a grown woman being called 'Mommy'...by EVERYONE?
Just watched my first episode of DC cupcakes. Couldn't stand it. Also, I was thinking the same thing about the head baker. Both shows seem so fake.

I was there this past week, and can personally recommend the cannolis and crumb cake.. They were delicious~! I even busted my diet for them, LOL The line was only about 2 hours for us, but sooooo worth the wait. And seriously............ wouldn't we all love to own a business that is that successful?? You can paint me...Envy green
what is sad is that the shows would be interesting in itself with just watching the creation of the cake(s). Julia Child had a wonderful show that just showed cooking .... she revolutionized the food industry .... and she didn't need any Jerry Springer drama to do it!
It's the, "It was Awesome!" that gets to me. Sometimes I watch just to see how many times he'll say that in one episode. DRIVES ME CRAZY!
LOL, we were watching his show "kitchen boss" (how many shows do you need?), and my daughter commented, "why does he keep saying 'beautiful'?" When a 5 year old can pick that up, there is something wrong!

My husband went the Thursday before and got through it in about 2 1/2 hours start to finish. I sent him for the crumbcake, I've been craving it ever since it they did an episode about it. Wouldn't you know, 2 numbers before his was called they ran out of crumbcake. NOOO... I was so disappointed. haha. He picked up the blueberry crumbcake instead, which was a little overcooked if you ask me, but still delicious!
One thing these shows do is make people aware of, and want custom cakes. So for that it's great for the industry. A couple years ago, when we first took our Wilton classes our neighbors were getting married and we asked if we could do their cake as a present for them. (Actually we asked if we could audition to be able to do it as a present because we knew they wanted it to be nice....lol). Fast forward a year and a half and we get a call from this same friend who says that someone who was at the wedding had tried to get a bachlorette cake from Carlo's bakery but were turned down "because they don't do those kinds of cakes". I don't know if they never do or if it was because that episode about them had been shown just before then. Regardless, this friend lives a couple blocks away from Carlo's, tried to get a cake from them, couldn't, remembered the wedding cake we had done, and called to get the cake from my husband. He was too embarrassed to talk with the young woman on the phone, so I had to get her ideas, then call back with the cake design idea. I just think it was very cool that my husband had gotten one of his customers because of this. That was the only call from them, they live 2 1/2 hours away from us, and they do have Carlo's right there for everything else. Just sharing.....
If nothing else is on, and I happen upon it, I do watch DC Cupcakes. It's like watching a train wreck. You don't want to watch, but you can't believe what you're seeing.... I know people who call their mother mommy, but it's not everytime, and it's not like it's her name. They sound like they are calling her by name. Very strange.
Cannot stand DC Cupcakes!!! I hate the way the dark-headed one says "Mommy"!!! And the fact that they are so seemingly unorganized about their work. You would hope they would do a little planning for some of these displays before the night before they are to be delivered.
House Hunters -- Still watch, but I get so irritated when EVERY couple says that the kitchen/family room has to work for "entertaining"..."We love to entertain" "We need a large space for all of our entertaining"...whatever! It's like it's in the contract for the show that everyone must say it!
I hear ya! I already had to reply once, "No... Who? Cake what?" I couldn't help myself.
Then again, I field another stupid question a lot because I have identical twins. I've been known to answer the "Are they twins?" question with, "No, triplets... OMG, I LOST one?!" Quite effective.
I still need a good one, though.
I have boy/girl twins and I have been amazed at how many people see them and ask if they're indentical. Actually we've seen a documentary where they talk about how some identicals can be opposite sex. There were special circumstances with my twins and they were written up in a medical journal by the doc who delivered them. Never have found the article. They're going to be 38 in August. Wow, how'd THAT happen!! I'm so young!
Allycatt, I loved Cakegirls. Unfortunately, they are not rebuilding. I've even heard that one of them went back to her old job doing something else. I believe the insurance took too long to pay out.
Cake Boss is not about making cakes. It's about Buddy and his crazy family. I love it.

Here's a link to their site with their statement posted on it:

I can't understand the facination in DC with there cupcakes? The markup is so much is everyone in DC brain dead..(hmmm maybe so lol).
If you go on the TLC website you can order the cupcakes and the price for a dozen delivered is like 79.00 (59 for the cupcakes and 20 delivery I think).
Something like that. But if you read the reviews I don't know how long they will be offering this service. Some arrived smashed, some were moldy.. and it is an over night service.
Has anyone see the new cake show starting on the food network? HAVE CAKE WILL TRAVEL. About a cake artist that goes to the events and does the cakes. Not them coming to her. Looks interesting.
And the new cake challenges on food network last cake standing? I takes 10 (some big number) of cake artists and pits them against themselves.. on baking and skills and delivery (kind of like survivor in the cake industry) how many of us have had to walk in a pool with the cake on our heads? The cake girls and many of the challenge regulars are in the group. I fell asleep and didn't see who got voted out of the kitchen yesterday. Too many to keep up with...
I have no idea where the people in the magazine got their info but their cupcakes are not that expensive.
Here is the link to order them w/ prices

$2.75 each
$15 for 6
$29 for 12
I have been to both locations several times and there has only been one time I had to wait any longer then 5 mins. It was on a sunny Sunday afternoon after a huge cold spell here - it took about 45 mins.
I have never been there when they have been filming...I can only imagine! But on a "normal" day they are extremely efficient and get you in and out very quickly. You can see people working on the cupcakes in the back - icing, decorating, etc. and they seem very organized. I think it's all set-up for TV, I don't believe a lot of what I see on that show. I can't watch it for long b/c their voices go right through me. I couldn't imagine that they could stay that successful if they really ran their business that way.
All the employees are always extremely nice and pleasant and their cupcakes are very good!
I just wonder now that Sprinkles Cupcakes has moved in on their turf just 3 or 4 blocks down what kind of effect it's going to have on both stores I have had both a few times and I do prefer Georgetown cupcakes over Sprinkles!
Forgot to add this...this is right from their website:
Georgetown Cupcake ships to physical addresses within the lower 48 states. The minimum order size for shipping is one dozen cupcakes. Shipping fees are $26 for the first dozen and $15 for each additional dozen shipped to the same address. All orders must be placed by 12 noon on the day prior to the desired delivery date. Saturday delivery is available for a $10 surcharge.
So shipping is $26 and 1 doz. cupcakes are $29 = $55 shipped!

wow..that is surprising, they were so talented.
