At first I really liked the new format from last season, and was SUPER happy to see Mary as a guest judge (I love love love her). Then 1/2 way thru I realized they copied the Bravo Top Chef competition format... and then they did the "Why should you stay?" crap at the end... and I hate that. It makes the show about personality and it diminishes the art and talent. Making people beg and cry on TV is a cheep ploy for drama.
AND - The other team should have lost, that "dragon" was a disgrace, and the dude should have been sent home, not that gal. He convinced the team his design would work. It didn't. Then he lied about what he said and how he sold it. Anyway, I liked the old format for elimination, where it was totally up to the judges and it was based on the finished product.
Unfortunately there seem to be so few good ideas and writers for television that all they can put together anymore is "reality" shows where you get to watch people get up in the morning and trudge through their mundain, disfunctional and/or trashed lives. All in the name of entertainment? I've watched the beginning of a few of them and they seem to take the same path eventually. Bickering and cutting each other down. I liked Cake Boss in the beginning, but the night I watched those oafs take that huge cake over the rail and dump it on the stairs it was just too much. Then a cake that took ump-teen hours (exagerating here) got totally recreated in about 2 hours. Huh?? It got progressively worse from there. I wonder if any of those couples get their wedding cakes free for having Buddy do it on his show for the publicity. What reallllly annoys me is how Buddy always makes himself the center of attention as he presents the cake to the crowd at whatever the function. I know it's for the show but I certainly hope he doesn't do that with all his big cakes. Talk about upstaging. My guess is when the cameras go off the whole crew gets back to business and the high drama dies down. If I was part of that show family I'd have to fire myself and get another job.
I know! I am a WMI and when I ask everyone to do introductions during the first class, I ask them to tell everyone their name and also why they are interested in taking cake decorating classes, they always say, well... I watch Cake BOSS! And I am like, oh great, they probably think they will be producing professional cakes after the first course! LOL!
Come one everyone....Cake Boss and DC Cupcakes are for entertainment only! The producers want them to have drama on the shows! I don't take any of the yelling, fighting and drama serious. I rarely watch them anymore, but when I do I sometimes pick up a hint/tip and don't take all they drama to heart. It's all for show!
How about showing people PAYING for their outlandish last minute requests? How about saying 'no' when you think someone has gone too far? How about showing some of your real screw-ups? Or someone pissed off about your pricing! Now that's a show that would deal with reality!
I'd watch that show! Sounds like you should call TLC! LOL!
As for DC Cupcakes, it's HOW they say mommy that gripes me! "MUMMY" Come on, really??? ![]()
i have a cure for the cake boss drama-- i dvr the episodes and only actually watch the 180 seconds worth of tips and technique! sometimes you do pick up something handy...

Hubby does the same thing on "American Idol"! He watches (most of) the singing and the judge's comments .... skips the other crap. he can condense a 2 hour show into about 20 minutes!
Speaking of cake shows - did anyone see that The Cake Artist, the new guy on Amazing Wedding Cakes is getting his own show on WE in June? The preview shows him yelling, screaming, cursing, bumbling, and bragging about what a rock-star cake designer he is. ![]()
Yeah, like we need another cake show with a screaming prima donna from the east coast. ![]()
We gave up our cable...so I am behind on the current shows, but when we had it... Buddy is hard to take, but somewhat watchable...NOT WATCHABLE...DC Cupcakes... they made me want to vomit! Their "signature swirl" and the ridiculous "mommy" and the staged fire...Please, please, please tell me that they didnt give them another season to torture TV viewers??!!??
"It's a sign of disrespect"....that's what my husband walks around saying thanks to Buddy!
