I believe liquid shortening is for fryers, like deep frying french fries and stuff. Hopefully someone else will know more about it.

LOL.. sorry for having a giggle.. this must be a really annoying situation for you.. but I can sympathise.. my DH does this kind of thing ALL the time.. not just with ingredients, but with all grocery items. I look at him sometimes as though he is an alien from Mars - how can one mind get so confused. I love him to bits though.. good thing he is handsome, I might have traded him in by now! It is a case of "I should have just gone to the store myself" a lot around here
