I have a friend wanting a cake for her friend's wedding shower. The theme is Old Spain. My friend would like something to fit the theme. The only thing I can come up with is the spanish lace cake. I'm just not sure everyone else will get the connection.
I love something like this...
I would definitely have to practice my piping beforehand, but it's gorgeous!
Anyone else have other ideas? I would love to see pics if available! Thanks!
I LOVE this cake! So romantic and beautiful. I have no ideas for you, but for me, THIS would be my choice.
Good luck!
When I think of old Spain I think of the architecture and the stone. Could you do some kind cake in that color pallette. No necessarily a building but an architecture vibe. So I googled old Spain just to see what came up and the old Spanish ships came up. You could do a take on the pirate ship make it more antique, less kiddy and made put their names on the mast. Just some thoughts.
I guess it depends on whether you want sophisticated or 'cutesy'. These figures are pretty cute, Spanish-themed toppers.

I am thinking frescoes, tiles, lanterns, spanish lace (also the embroidery) and plates
something like this:

If i had an edible printer, my though would be for sheet cake that is like a three panel fresco. Tile like design round the bottom with their names and the three panels on top framed with mosaic. Three panels could be the bride and groom when they were young and the middle a pic of when they got engaged or something to that extent. if you go for brighter mosaic feel then I would tone down the images to sepia for the aged look.
It would take a while to accomplish but in theory it sounds good = )
Thanks everyone! I really like all the ideas. I'll have to play around to see what I can come up with. Luckily I've got some time...cake's for the end of October.
Your idea is terrific!!! Im sure people will match the idea of intricate lace design and Spain for its classic flamenco "mantillas".
Look for more ideas:

Thanks! Those cakes are all gorgeous! I'm getting pretty excited about doing this cake. My wedding was supposed to have a bit of spanish/latin influence, and cakes like these would have been wonderful!
