Go ahead, bite my head off in advance.
My GROWING pet peeve is that there are a lot of people that have lost all compassion for their fellow cake decorating CC "friends". It seems as though some people on here have forgotten where they may have started. That not everyone on here is a professional and that helping someone, even step by step, should make you feel good, not make you angry. I understand that helping someone may be time consuming. If you don't want to help then don't bother reading their post and then complaining about it the next day.
I had believed that the concept of this site was to share...photos, ideas, recipes and help.
I've been feeling that way for some time now. I received so much help when I first started on CC and making cakes, that I tried to help as many people as I could with what I had learned from CC and trial and error. But in the last couple of months I have felt like I am cursed or something
you too? I know how you feel! And to not even get a thank you -- so disheartening.
And to not even get a thank you -- so disheartening.
Are you using the sarcasm font?
I am not sure I can tell.
Just in case you are, I try and make a habit to thank each and everyone who has helped me on this site. My point was that people are complaining that other people are asking for help and direction yet I thought that was a big part of the sites purpose. Along with the fact that no one has obligated anyone to have to do so. Don't want to help then don't. But please do not try and make people feel inferior because they ask for help.
I'm a thread killer, too. I state something that seems totally obvious and the thread either dies a quick death or people ignore what I said and keep arguing the point. Oh well.
Thank you, Doug and costumezar!! It's nice to know that I am not the sole "thread-killer" ![]()
I guess I'll just learn to take it as a compliment rather than feeling shunned because I took time to try and help someone who had a question or problem and that ended the thread ![]()

Just look at it this way...What you said was so intelligent and comprehensive, nobody has anything else to add, so the thread is officially finished ![]()
And to not even get a thank you -- so disheartening.
Are you using the sarcasm font?
no, I'm not.
I can't even begin to count all the times that not only have I killed the thread, but that I've been the ONLY one to post a reply. Yep a thread that has just the original post and my reply and nothing else, not even a thank you from the OP.
that's killing a thread about as completely as you can <sarcasm font for that. (we really do need a sarcasm font!)
I don't have a sarcasm font, but you're welcome to use these two icons.

Not being licensed to bake also can have serious consequences, but those are NOT generally known or understood. Thus the imperative to make sure the newbies know what they could get themselves into with the government alone, let alone a disgruntled customer who might sue.
It IS in the best interest of all to make sure all are legal -- level playing field. Consider the recent successes in getting cottage industry laws passed to allow home base bakers. If it were such a crime for home bakers to exist, these would not have been passed. That they were shows that both the storefront and the home-front baker can coexist in a properly regulated legal environment.
Sadly, today any form of correction, advice giving, or instruction in the proper way things are done is all too often interpreted as being "chiding, chastising the person to put them in their place." Discipline, correcting and teaching often do include making someone aware that their supposed place of knowledge and action base is on very shaky ground, built on sand so to speak, and they need to get on a rock solid base.
Okay, but asking someone "are you legal?" and ignoring the question altogether is not helpful. It's really none of your(and I mean the collective "your") business if one is legal or not.
A person that is trying to "make sure the newbies know what they could get themselves into with the government alone, let alone a disgruntled customer who might sue." probably wouldn't approach it that way.
If my motivation is to help this person, I might say: I charge XXX for my cakes, per serving, but it really depends on where you live/the market there and your costs. BTW, if you are going to run your business from home in xx state, they require that A, B, and C before you can do it legally. You may have already done all that, I just wanted to make sure you knew ![]()
Op gets an answer to her question and I've warned her about illegal selling and left the door open for questions if she has any.
Now, this is the answer a lot of op's get:
" Are you legal/licensed?"
"what state are you in?"
And the ever popular "I know for a fact xx state doesn't allow baking from home. You shouldn't be selling cakes at all."
That last one is one of my favs because on 2 different occasions I've seen this response when the op didn't even mention where they were planning to set up shop.
I personally am far too paranoid a person to ever even think about running an illegal business, and I would never recommend it to someone else. However, what someone else chooses to do is really not my business to worry about. I understand that many disagree with me, and that's okay. That's just my two cents.

LOL! Perfect!
Where DO you find this stuff!?!? -- You've certainly got the knack for finding novel, fun stuff! ![]()
Glad to help!
Right after I joined CC denise2434 showed me how to post them.
I like them, they help make posts clear; so keep an eye out for interesting icons and smilies. Then I either download them, or write down the URLs.
Feel free to let me know if there are any you're looking for, I may have one.
Former members that have supposedly quit or been banned who are obsessed with sticking around and causing negativity with their fake accounts, passive aggressive postings, and all around immature shenanigans.
People who start off posts with "I don't mean to offend anyone, but..." or "this may cause drama, but..."
People who post in the business forum about starting a bakery, but first they need help with their business name, business plan, pricing strategy, menu, website, etc, etc, etc. ![]()
People who seem to get offended at everything.

I remember when I first found CC. I was a New-New-Newbie with ONE whole cake under my belt! I knew nothing. I made a birthday cake for my friend, loved it and that was all I wanted to do. When I came across this site, I thought Holy Crap! Amazing! People were so nice and helpful. They patiently answered my silly and what seem like now, really stupid questions... I had no idea I couldn't just bake a cake and sell it... (I know, I know!) And I learned an incredible amount of information.
But the feeling I get from CC has changed a bit
I had my very first encounter with a troll just the other day. Unpleasant. And it seems that so many threads I come across are full of people who just want to fight. This is supposed to be a place where cakers can come to learn, share, broaden their horizons...
But, I just need to shake it off! No troll will scare me away from here! Luckily, the amount of people who DO care, want to be helpful and nice sort of cancel out the bad ones (most of the time) ![]()
So I guess I didn't really have a specific pet peeve... Just a big Thanks to all the great, helpful, amazingly talented, patient, generous people on here. And and a big plbbbththt
to all the ones who aren't!
Asking a question that is too generic. When at least 3 or more people reply with a request for MORE INFO, so that they can answer the question, the OP keeps repeating the original request. If you don't provide the info, how can you expect a reasonable answer? ![]()
There's a lesson on some of these posts: just be considerate.
Maybe someone can clarify....obviously I missed a post some where but WHY, WHy, WHY would you remove your cake photos????
I know that some removed them because of copyrights due to upcoming books in which they want to use the pictures, others because one of the website upgrades messed them up, a few others due to extremely rude demands (not polite requests) by people for step-by-step directions.

Several of the "banned" have moved on to BIG things, such as FN challenges, mag covers and other achievements. I know this because some former members are my friends and they are extememly gifted cake artist. It seems shenanigans happen with or without their help, and often mislabled "sarcasm".

I can second this...Whenever any kind of comment is made about former members coming back to cause trouble I roll my eyes, because I know exactly who's being referred to (it's usually the same people making the comments) and the former members really coudn't care less. They're busy doing other things, I hate to break it to you. There will always be disagreements on here, so blaming one group of people is just stupid.
TIA
I hate TIA
Thanking in advance is NOT the same as thanking after help has been rendered.
Makes poster of TIA seem so Evita Peron, Imelda Marcos, Maria Antoinette like: "Of COURSE I DESERVE help from all the 'little people'; why should I have to personally recognize you or thank you?"
Hold the thanks until helped and then thank the people, by name is best.
I don't care if someone is new here or re-signed up, as long as the person 'plays nice.'
Have a cookie?
------------
My REAL pet peeve, is the fact I'm determined to lose weight... I can't have the cookie!
i thought BROKEN cookies = broken calories, so those were "safe"
Relax...Have a little pie...
I just love you...

Add assumptions to my list of pet peeves. Although soap box speeches made off of pure assumption are pretty hilarious. ![]()

For a newbie to come on, and from day one post nasty messages following almost every post of a long time member until she leaves, seems suspicious.
For a different newbie (of less than 2 weeks here) to be posting as though she has a grudge against another long term member, also seems suspicious.
If "XYZ" doesn't want people to think "XYZ" is one of those banned members, then "XYZ" shouldn't act like one.
Again, just play nice.
