I understand doing something as a hobby to make you feel good but if you have to rely on others to make you feel better than that persons self esteem comes into ?. It's all about that persons out look of themselves, no amount of comments will change that. thumbs_up.gif

True, true.

Ok you guys give the op a break. I do understand what she means. When I first joined this site, when you posted a pic, you usually got comments. And that was nice for a hobbiest that was fairly new. It does help build your confidence to have such talented people take notice of your work And there helpful suggestions were great. Now that the site has grown so much and there are so many pics loaded everyday, you just don't get as many comments or views as you used too. To say she's fishing for compliments is not nice and if she was, we could all use a little reasurance once in a while. Some of don't have fellow cakers to lean on except here.

I hope you can chuckle at it now. I know when you had the dream, it doesn't matter what it is, a nightmare is a nightmare. Kinda like in ghostbusters, nothing sweeter than the marshmallow man, until he's ready to kill you....

Well, the terms of service for CC state this as far as comments in the gallery go:

You may only post positive comments. If the member has specifically asked for criticism on their cake, you may only offer constructive criticism. Any rude, or negative comments input by you will lead to your photo gallery privileges being revoked.

So...basically, if you're asking for comments, you're asking for positive comments, or fishing for compliments, however you want to put it. I know that people have complained about negative comments before, and that they were removed by moderators.

At the risk of sounding like Simon Cowell, to tell you the truth, if someone was going to comment on one of my cakes, I would rather have them comment honestly. If I wanted someone to tell me how fabulous I was, I would just ask my family.

Constructive criticism helps you. Personally, thats why I refrain from commenting on cakes. If people don't want to hear constructive criticism, why bother? Here's a comment, I think it was a great concept; however, (saving time here, it would be deleted anyway). It wouldn't be cruel, just a couple of suggestions.

Wow some people just really like to rain on a parade lol............my mother use to say, if you can't say something nice say nothing at all...........and I think thats true...........so I thought maybe since no one said anything at all, maybe it was not good

To those who feel the need to be nasty.......enjoy yourselves, I guess it makes you feel good.

To everyone who was supportive and kind, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I was under the assumption that was what the gallery was for, to get opinions and advice from those who know more than we do.

You are totally right, and it seems that on this site, there is plenty of nasty to go around. That is why I don't put up pictures, I just look for information I need and get idead and tips. It always seems to be the same people too. It almost makes me feel bad for them, they are so obnoxious and feel they have to "rain" ( as you said) on everyone. Don't worry Madge, there are supporters here too.

I don't think anyone was nasty.

Can't any subject be discussed without the huffiness?

It does seem to escalate out of control sometimes. I don't know what triggers it. I just think, if people didn't like the OP "fishing" for compliments ( their words, not mine), they should have just looked at other posts, I mean, why bringe a person down. It isn't worth it. I think there are plenty of people on here who like compliments. I don't put my pictures on here to solicit praise, but I would be lying if I said I didn't want some. It is natural.

Thanks Cara.....I agree it is sad..one of them actually sent me a message saying that I asked for compliments with this blog so none of the responses to my cake were sincere.........l guess she was embarrassed to say that in here.

I guess I should have known better than to even ask............

lol, so Im not the only one!!! I havent gotten a comment on my last 4 cakes!!!! Its not the OHHH and Ahhhh's that I want but more like, its ok, but you should have done this or that....the TIPS I can get from others to help me.

But I do sit here and click on each tiny pics and look at cakes when I have time, and I DO MAKE COMMENTS ON THEM...because I know what its like to be new and want/need to hear what I can do.

But yeah I dont like the new banner thing, look at one, go back and start again, or for that matter open a new tab everytime. Its a hassel.

I think the new banner may be part of the problem. It looks nice but doesn't function as well. JMHO

Yes thats really why I asked....maybe to make people think....boy was that a mistake lol....but I see so many cakes with not one comment but maybe 200 views....wow really............not one person could say I like that....or how did you do that or anything..............sure everone likes feedback..........I forgot it gets mean in here ..........don't know how I could have forgotten that........oopsies........I leave comments as much as I can and I don't think it would hurt some of these people to be a bit more constructive and a little less destructive...Im just sayin....lol icon_smile.gif

The problem with this form of communication is that what is written is subject to the reader's interpretation. One may say something meant in one way and the recipient takes it in another depending on the recipient's frame of mind at the time.....trust me...I learned this the hard way with texting and my ex-fiance.....afterward it's really hard to write and say your words were misunderstood, again mood and frame of mind enter into interpretation.

Please ladies, agree that you disagree, shake spatulas and come out frosting....not frothing.....
