I had calla lillies, roses, carnations and I don't remember what else on my wedding cake but they were on a plate or vase. Can't remember exactly. I had my reception in Mexico so it is customary and traditional to use fresh flowers on your cake. Not to mention hip and elegant. But it's good to know about the toxicity of some flowers. Thanks for posting
I have a numerous amount of Wild Sunflowers growing in our ares. I know that they haven't been Sprayed. My MOG wants to use something like these, or black eyed susans or Daisies. Are any of these a concern? I was going t o make sure any flower I get for the cakes are wrapped so the stem it's self does not touch the cake. But I have no Idea I have never used Flowers.

Black-Eyed Susans are on the list of flowers that are toxic to animals. I can't seem to find anything definative with respect to humans.
Sunflowers seem to be safe, unless you are a bird eating too many seeds from a plant that took in too much nitrates (e.g. from fertilizer runoff).
According to University of California, Davis, Plant Sciences Dept. Daisies have minor toxicity and are a skin irritant. Here is a link to a chart with a list of potentially poisonous plants:

Dianthus and Carnation are, by all of my sources, POISONOUS! I don't know about the rest. I know very little about flowers, but that makes me wary of her list.......
