I have a order for a birthday cake for the 4th of July they want it decorated for the 4th. I want to put red, white and blue fondant swags on it. It is going to be iced with buttercream, will the swags stay on the cake? Or I'm thinking maybe how you see the swags for the 4th that are red and white pleated with the blue field of stars at the top. Making some stars on wire to stick out the top. Does anybody have any other ideas???

Make sure your drapes aren't too thick (or they'll be too heavy to stay on the cake). I use fondant drapes all the time on buttercream and I've never had one fall off. Just push it good on there. You'll have to cover the ends somehow (on my cakes, usually with flowers). Most of the time the ends look unfinished (unless you're way neater than I am). I refrigerate my cakes (not to start a debate...LOL) and I think that helps the swags stay on.
