I think the bride acts totally normal. Ive seen these stuck-up rich bitches that think the world owes them because they were born. And the way the mother came to her rescue as usual is typical.

Yah, I think if I had held in my anger I would of told her to leave and then bawled my eyes out from being so pissed. I probably would of wanted to stuff her face in it but would of ended up doing the same thing as Buddy.

I think its time for Buddy to chime in here. I'm sure he is reading this icon_wink.gif

Honestly I think Buddy is a real stand up guy and wants to be the bigger person. Sucks for him that he has to deal with wacos, but I'm sure by now he has delt with enough crazy brides to know how to handle the situation.

If the cameras were not around I'm sure it would have turned out differently. The crazy bride knew he would have to make a new cake to make himself and the bakery look good to the public. She use the cameras to her advantage. Or maybe it was all staged. who knows but it makes for good TV either way. Look we are all talking about it right? I'm sure a few more people will be tuning in next week just from this fourm alone icon_smile.gif

I love, love, love the show! It is so refreshing. Bride messing up cake staged? You know... it could have all been arranged just to make good t.v., but Buddy's face looked too genuine. As well, at the end when Bridezilla's mom wanted her to come out and look at the cake, she acted like a real (well, I don't go there, but let's say: less than a lady.) I don't think that was staged. I think she needed a good hard spanking before she was six. I got a kick out of Buddy at the end when he spoke of feeling sorry for her soon-to-be husband.

Boy of Boy!!!!!! If only that girl grew up under my parents roof! She would have been picking every single one of her teeth up off the floor! At first I felt sorry for her Mother but after the mother said she would pay for another cake that was it!!! That would have been the cake sitting at her reception.

I dont like the show......I absolutely positively LOVE IT!!!!!! And I agree we are all family at our shop and believe me... we yell. But, when all is said and done don't let anyone else pick on our family.....I LOVE the show, I love Buddy, and I already love his family. Don't know if its staged but it doesn't matter it is a great show.....

And as for steaming the fondant. Or steaming gumpaste flowers, it gives it a shine that is beautiful. So, if you want a shine, forget the confectioners glaze....steam it.

Thanks Buddy I am learning a lot from you and the operation of your shop.

And hey does anyone have a good cake order sheet....I am still now and then having to call someone for a detail...Such a waste of time.

Anyone know how many episodes, and what the cakes were....I want to try to catch them up in re-runs

Thanks

i feel like it could go either way as to whether or not it was staged because her freak out was so incredibly INSANE that it's hard to imagine that being real. but come on, rich, spoiled kids will always be that. they always get what they want NO MATTER WHAT. and as for buddy's reaction, i honestly think he was just too much in shock to start screaming at the crazy b*tch!! oorrrrr.... i mean, i have a serious temper at times, but when someone has done something so ludicrous to me, most of the time, all i can do is walk away because, and i feel like it's this way for buddy as well, if i WERE to act out things would not be pretty. and after all it IS his business on the line.......... but i still vote he should have taken her new "creation" to her wedding at let that, be that! icon_biggrin.gif

Last night was my first time to see Cake Boss. I liked the show - but like other cake shows too much drama just for TV. As for the bridzilla - I saw that one coming a mile away. When watching you could see all of the tubs of colored icing (opened??) with decorating bags right behind the bride - the phone call - too set up. But you could tell from the beginning at the consult, the wedding wasn't her idea-she didn't even want her mother at it, so it really was her Mothers wedding not hers. My question was - why couldn't it have been a black cake?? Cake was definitely made to please the mother not the bride.

Too much drama and yelling? Really? Coming from a northeastern Italian family with a family owned business this show just make me laugh, cry and miss my family! Lots of loud, lots of proud and all about family is how I grew up. Buddy and his family are very real, full of love and quite talented. Not one minute of this show seems staged to me. Love it!

P.S. They pick on Stretch because they love him...he has become one of the family! icon_biggrin.gif

Hey summer, where's the comment from the bride I couldn't find it? Her name is Alli right?

I was wondering if her father is someone important like the "Godfather" icon_lol.gif and that's why Buddy bent over backwards for them.

Another thought, why couldn't they just scrape off the icing clean up the fondant and add colorful flowers to the first cake? That's probably what I would have done.

dkelly here is what she said

"NEWSFLASH! Its 'reality' tv and the entire thing was sooo fake! The producers staged everything and encouraged us to act a certain way, they edited it all to make me look like a bridezilla, my mom like a victim, and buddy like a hero. Obviously, that's their biz and what they do to make $. Those involved know what really happened, so I don't feel ... Read Morethe need to explain much. I had the sickest cake for my bridal shower and the wedding cake that I got was what we originally ordered, and yes it was to die for! Its all good, just admit you love to hate me. Peace, Alison"

Ok, so now its either scripted for drama or the bride was being laughed at so much that she tried to make herself look good by saying she was acting. I liked one of the comments telling her that she should go to Hollywood, because she was obviously a talented actress!

Thanks StaceyCakes!

Now I don't know what to believe........I'm leaning towards the staging though. I just can't believe that any decorator would react as calmly as Buddy did if it weren't staged. I mean I flip out if I stick my finger in a finished cake! icon_razz.gif

I believed it all up until the second wedding cake... Why would you make a much larger, more complicated cake than the first one? Also, in Washington state the health dept. would never allow the bride back in the food prep area unless she has her health card. Also been around some video work and realized a couple of shots they have of her entering the decoraing area had to be set up ahead of time. I read the "lovely" bride's blog this morning and it made sense. That being said - I still LOVE the show. LOVE the end when Buddy came home to his adorable kids and wife - that looked very real and sweet!! oh, and let's face it, even if the bride was acting, she has some serious problems (but not a many as her hubby will have)....

Buddy was really happy with that Bridzilla cake, so when he got it out for her to see, which was something he was shocked at, because they do not usually do that....when she said Oh how ugly, the look on his face was SHOCK.........he was not at all expecting that reaction from her and when she decided to paint it he could not believe what he was seeing......but then he finally did tell her to get out of his bakery and you don't come here and blablabla........I don't believe it was staged............it was a look of disbelief on his face. He is an amazing and talented baker.......I really hate to read comments in here dissing the man, thats BS.........I love the show....wish they would have more ............................some people just like to be disagreeable if you ask me.....

icon_confused.gif I'm confused and don't know what to believe. While watching it i immediately thought the whole thing was staged because buddy just didn't have much of a reaction..at least not the reaction I was thinking a person would have after you're 'baby' was ruined. Then the bride..are there really people out there so twisted and rude? I really just wanted to jump through the tv and smack her in the head. icon_cool.gif
I wish Buddy would chime in and tell us as it is.

After watching several episodes i have to say i am hooked. After the first episode i was kinda turned off by the yelling but now that i've watched it more it's growing on me. What's even better? DH is hooked. icon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gif Geesh, he can't wait until the show is on and he even wanted to watch a repeat of it again tonight..yes! He says it's his favorite reality show on tv right now. thumbs_up.gif I'm just happy i've finally found a show he loves too and it involves cake decorating.
I'm getting a bit of a complex as he is always gushing about how great buddy and his decorators/bakers are. He never gets that excited about my work. icon_rolleyes.gif Oh well.

I sure hope the whole thing wasn't staged. I think the show would be great without that sort of thing. I hope they keep it real.

I also think it was a natural reaction to what he was seeing, let's be honest people, he didn't know how to react to it, probably he wanted to kick her a..... but, helloooooo there were filming him! He had to keep it cool and make the new cake for the sake of his business. Just imagine if he refused to make the new cake and yell at the b...... I mean bride, kick her out of the bakery, etc. He'd loose a lot of business and his reputation, remember that his bakery is been in business for years!

How is anyone being disagreeable? It's not possible to have a larger than life personality and expect that everyone will like it. He's bound to rub people the wrong way from time to time. Big deal.

As for his cakes, I'm not particularly a huge fan of them. I've seen even better work on this site. That said, I'm envious that he gets to bake for a living, spend working hours with family and express his creativity. He's clearly a remarkable businessman and he deserves kudos.

ETA: I actually loved his second wedding cake for the bridezilla. It was gorgeous and the colors were fantastic.

My husband and I re-wound and watched the bride section twice. Our opinion is that the bride acted that way because it was her twisted way of getting back at the mother.

We do think it was a little bit contrived for TV, and I grew up in the industry and have seen this a million times. She is 90% likely every bit as much a spoiled brat as she portrays, but TLC helps the story along by providing "cues" and "suggestions" like the ready-to-use colorful piping bags directly behind her.

I am sure the mother was, in fact a big client, Buddy wants to keep the reputation in-tact, and if the mother can afford the most expensive venue in New Jersey for her precious brat, she probably did pay for two cakes....can't blame Buddy and I want to say I would have handled it the same way if it came down to the money, you know?

First let me say, I love Buddy. His show is entertaining and educational.

BUT~ is it possible, the Bride was a plant from the producers, etc. without Buddy or his Staff knowing? Is it possible, for ratings, that they "set him up" with a fake Bride/scenario. First off, I have a hard time believing she would have allowed herself to be filmed behaving the way she did. It's just not normal behavior. If someone came into my bakery and grabbed bags of icing without permission, I'd call it stealing. She'd be wearing that cake...

Would anyone ever walk into resturant kitchen, and start plating their own meal because they didn't like the presentation? icon_confused.gif

If this was a legit situation, than Buddy has A LOT of class... icon_smile.gif
