How is everyone doing?

I'm doing the same which is holding on, but not losing again yet. Sigh. It is all on me. I need to dig in and pull out my motivation and get back at it.

A good thing though, this weekend I went over to my friend's parents house for a birthday party. When I walked into the door her stepdad was like "Dang girl, I don't even recongize you any more." I haven't seen them since Jan, and it is always great to have the weight loss noticed! icon_smile.gif

You'd think that'd push me to really get back on it, but I'm still having trouble. Have not given up yet. And I won't. Just seem to be taking my time getting back on the right path heading the right direction. Atleast though it seems I'm just standing in the middle of the road more than heading back where I came from.

Hey there. Hope everyone is doing well.
Tracy - I'm sorry that you haven't lost any more weight but really happy that you are holding your own. I wish I could say the same thing. icon_cry.gif I had done so well for three months and then I overate while out to dinner one night and it led into the next day which led into the next, etc. I'm sure you get what I'm saying. I fell into the same ole routine. Overeat and instead of saying "OK, tomorrow is another day" I fell back into 'OK, I already over ate so might as well eat whatever I want now" Here it is 6 days later and this morning when I woke up, I thought to myself, What in the ---- am I doing? I fell right back into the mindframe that led me into being overweight to begin with. Geeeeeez, I've got to figure this thing out. Otherwise everything I've achieved will be in vain. Why can't I over eat one day and then wake up the next morning and say "today is a new day" and go back to watching what I eat? I know I gained over the last 6 days. No doubt about it. So I'm not weighing in this week and maybe not even next week. I'm doing great today though and am back on track. Just wish I hadn't taken that stupid detour. Just glad I didn't let it go on longer before picking myself back up.
Anyway, how is everyone else out there doing? Anyone try any new and tasty recipes? I've got quite a few new recipes that I want to try but just haven't had the time to try them out yet. I'll let everyone know if any of them are any good when I do get a chance to check em out. I did discover something interesting. I've been doing weight watcher points since January. I'm allowed 19 points per day. I also started counting calories along with the points and have discovered that I'm only eating between 900-1050 calories a day. When I used to count calories only, I would always make sure that I ate around 1200 calories a day. I was really surprised to see that I was eating so much less when counting the points only. Hmmmm, maybe I'll start just counting calories each day. I just thought that was kinda interesting.

Hello everyone!

It seems like we're all struggling right now.

Butternut, I know exactly what you mean. Why is it all or nothing? Why can't we slip but get right back up and keep going?
The only thing that has kept me from going right back to my unhealthy habits is the 1000 mile challenge. That has kept me moving - a little bit. I haven't gotten nearly the miles in that I was. My eating was ok, but not great. I think I'm finally back on track. Yesterday I got 13 miles in and today I've gotten 12 in. I'm almost at the 800 mile point!! I really enjoy my bike rides, even though it is starting to get a little warm! It's just hard to find the time. I'm just going to have to be better at planning.
Tracy, hang in there. You'll get back to where you need to be.You've come so far and done so much I know that you won't give up.
What do you think we can do to help each other? Is there any kind of challenge that would help? Rewards? Let me know if anyone has any ideas. We could do a mini challenge. Get 100 miles in in May? Is that too much? Exercise also counts - I think 15 minutes of a good workout equals about a mile.
Time to go work on dinner. I would LOVE to try some new recipes, but my family is SO picky. It's hard to find some that everyone will eat. Actually it's impossible to find one that everyone will eat!!

Take care and stay strong!!

Melissa mine is just that I got down emotionally and mentally and we know what that leads to right? Eating and more eating.

I know I can do it, I know I just have to put my foot down and do it. But for some reason I'm having a hard time getting it done.

I'm not sure I'd be able to get in 100 miles of exercise in May. Right now I have a possibilty of classes Mon, Tues and Wed night, plus classes on Saturday morning, on top of the 46+ hours at the day job. After working from 8am to 9pm with a short break in between I'm not sure I'd be able to get 3 miles in on long work days. And on the days I don't have class, I seriously doubt I'd double up then either.

I've also done something to my right hand. Everyone keeps saying carpel tunnel but I deal with that and this is something different. This is a pain from my thumb to my wrist when I grip things like a pencil or turn my hand in certain directions. So exercises that would involve it are out at the moment too.

UGH! Yeah I know, excuses, but at the same time it is just realistic. I do think a challenge would be interesting and maybe can get something moving for all of us.

Margie, I'm glad you only let it get you down for a week. I've been down for too many weeks now and have lost alot of the good habits I was building. Time to start over on it again.

I think I can, I think I can, I know I can, right?

You guys need to go back and re-read some of your own inspirational posts!

I've really ben working hard at watching my food intake. I haven't been as good at the exercise, but trying not to let that get me down.

I am down almost 2 kilo (around 4 lbs) today! (I don't have a digital scale, so I can't be exact)

Thanks everyone for giving the encouragement and push I needed to start.

WOW!! That's awesome leahk. You are really doing great!!!! I haven't exercised as much as I would like to either. Injuries keep me from doing what I'd really like to do but I'm doing what I can. Need to do it more often though. I just purchased a badminton set and hoping the weather is good over the week-end so I can try to burn some calories. I'm so glad that the weather is getting warmer now and hope to get out much more and do "fun" things. Keep up the good work, you're really doing TERRIFIC!!

Hi everyone, I wanted to join this thread again. I mentioned before that I used to weigh 265 pounds and went down to 160. I was 160 for 3-4 years until I lost my job last 2008. I then went back to 210 pounds in late 2009. Last week, I was 190 pounds and currently, I weigh 188 pounds.

Earlier today I went to Walmart and was contemplating on getting Alli. I have taken diet pills before but never this--I'm afraid of the liver problems I have heard about. I think I will go natural this time. I'll be reading everyone's tips and hopefully it helps. I have a big event to attend in 2 weeks and I was hoping to shed a few pounds.

My goal for today: Exercise for 45 minutes

Hi Margie, thank you for the positive words. My weight is fluctuating crazy, I keep lacking motivation. I was actually 180 on March 2010. Anyways, I love to play badminton as well--only if I had someone to play it with.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Leah, congrats on the loss!

Welcome back Rylan! I understand the ups and downs. I'm right there with you.

I'm not a fan of the pills that are suppose to help with weight loss. The biggest thing is that you start depending on that pill for the weight loss and not the healthy habits you will need to keep it off.

I think Alli is a better choice than some of them out there since it is more of a fat blocker than a diet pill. While it says it will help you lose more weight than dieting alone it doesn't make promises of dropping lots of weight with out any work. My concearn about Alli is the side effects, espeically if you eat more fat than you are allowed.

I'll tell you the samething I told myself when my mom offered to pay month of the diet program she is on that has you take pills all day, if you have lost weight before, you know how to do it. You don't need the pills, and in the end you don't want the 'quick fix' when it comes to losing weight. We gain weight back, or quit losing for a reason, we have to figure out those reasons and work on fixing it.

I think we actually need the slow process and journey of losing weight because there is so much more to deal with than just the actual weight loss. Along with replacing bad habits with good habits there is this huge emotional rollercoaster we go on. This stuff takes work, but we all know in the end the hard work is well worth it.

Last week I started back on trying to eat less. I didn't eat as well as I had been when I was losing but it was alot better than I had been the last month. Yesterday I went to Walmart to stock up on fresh fruit and veggies, and freezer meals for when I don't get a chance to cook. This week I'm going to get back into really watching what I ate again and get back into measuring everything out.

I'm tired of sitting on my butt and not doing anything about my weight, especially when I know I can do it, and have done it. No more wasting time for me. If I get after it I could be done before the summer is over. Which means I could quit putting off buying summer clothes and a bathing suit.

It is a new month, new week and new day. I'm back on this journey!

I'm with ya Tracy. I'm not really sure why I took that week's "vacation" but I'm back on track now. I'm up about half a pound from my last weigh in a couple of weeks ago. But that's ok. Just gotta stay strong and we'll be just fine.... Like you said, a new month, a new week, a new day.....

Leah, I forgot to mention, congrats on the weight loss as well.

Tracy, thanks a lot for sharing me this useful and uplifting information. I have finally decided not to use any diet pills this time. Your are right, I can go without it. I'll ust drink green tea and let it dissolve the fat I eat, hehe (if that is even true). Wishing you the best with your new journey--we can all make it!

Margie, hehe atleast it was a week, mine was a year! Hehe.

UPDATE: Last week I was 190, I checked my weight today and I am 185. I lost 5 pounds. I also exercised more. I'll be getting some more veggies today.

Rylan, it took me 4 years to lose 40lbs, but you know what, I feel that doing it slowly helped me keep it off. I'm a baby step girl, I don't try to make too many changes at once. icon_smile.gif

I'm glad you are skipping the diet pills, I think in the long run you will feel better and be more proud of yourself for doing the hard work.

I'm losely back to counting my calories today, and hope to be full at it by the end of the week. I have to get my meal plan under control and pull out that kitchen scale again! I will be weighing in on Wed and will use that weight to start tracking.

You know you were off track when you still weighted but didn't even bother charting it any more.

Oh you know me I'm a slow loser only a pound or so at a time. You can do it! icon_wink.gif

Yesterday went pretty well for eating. Hoping I can keep it going today. Tummy is protesting a little thinking it is hungry when it shouldn't be. That's one thing I hate when you start watching what you eat, that hunger feeling. It seems I am more hungry the first week than I ever felt, even when I know I am getting plenty of food and the rights kinds.

For some reason, I very seldom ever feel hungry, which I guess is a good thing. When I do eat something before 11:30am, I pretty much have to force myself to eat. So, in all honesty, I very seldom ever eat anything until lunch time. Maybe if I could get into the habit of eating earlier, it would boost my metabolism earlier in the day? It's just hard for me to do that. I've always been this way even as a small child.
I hope the hunger pangs go away soon Tracy. As long as you are eating enough, I would think it would be really soon. Our tummies get used to eating a certain amount and when we cut down on the amount, they tend to protest a bit. icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement!

Losing a pound at a time is the way to go- it is more likely to stay off that way! It looks like i've gone back up a little this week, but I'm waiting until tomorrow for the final accounting.

I totally get the hungry feeling. I'm a horrible person to be near when i start eatimng right. I know I'm not hungry, but I feel hungry all the time! I have found that eating veggies makes a big difference. I feel like I'm constantly eating, without too many calories.

Margie, I can't eat right after I wake up. I don't eat breakfast until I've been up for an hour or so. Which of course means I eat it at my desk at work, but I just can't help it.

I know I'm not hungry, I think it is just more my tummy playing tricks on my mind. Sorta like thirst can feel like hunger. Or my body says it likes food to much for me to take it away from it. HeHe. I'll be okay in the next week or so.

Leak, I do think losing slow is healthy and it is easier to keep it off. I'm not in a race to get to the finish. I'll make it to the finish line when the time is right, we all will.

Good luck on the scale tomorrow. And just remember alot of things factor into your weight on the scale, not just the amount of food we eat.

Good Wednesday morning Chunky Monkeys! How is everyone doing? Hope everyone is having a great week.
After eating everything in sight and gaining 3.6 lbs a couple of weeks ago, I decided to brave the scale this morning....... I am very happy with the weigh in. I lost the 3.6 gain and lost an additional .2 lbs. Now I know that .2 lb loss isn't anything to jump up and down about but because I totally blew it and gained so much, any loss from my last posted weigh in looks wonderful!!! So at this point, I'm .2 lbs less than I was on my weigh in on April 14th. Now, I just need to keep on this path and not take any more "food vacations" and I'll be just fine. lol So, to summarize:
Jan 4th 183 lbs
May 5th 154.4
I have decided to stop counting points and start counting calories again. I've discovered that I'm just not getting in enough calories each day when I only count points. Don't want to go any lower than 1200 calories a day and with the points, I'm getting less than 1000 on many days. I think that with the extra calories I'll start really trying to fit in a very small breakfast. I'm usually up in the mornings around 7am and waiting until close to noon to eat is a long time and I'm thinking slowing the metabolism a bit. Worth a shot anyway.
I'm working on getting in more veggies. How do you guys prepare your veggies? I use the steam bags quite a bit but that's getting a bit old. I had veggies at Olive Garden some time back and they were soooooo good. It was yellow squash and zucchini and it tasted like they had been marinated in something and the taste was fabulous. Any ideas what that could have been? I'm sure it added calories but if I could get in more veggies, it may be worth it.
Ok, off to the store I go. Hope evryone is doing great and feeling positive. Have a wonderful day!!!

Way to go Margie!

Well my weight was 143.6 this morning. This is after going out to eat last night, so I'm hoping a little bit of that is salt/water weight. I've been hoovering around the 142 mark, so I can't blame much on it. That's okay, I'm getting back on track.

I'm a big fan of sauted cabbage now, after it was suggested to me on another post. Zucchini and yellow squash I just saute/fry in a pan with just cooking spray. You can roast your veggies. I've done green beans and cauliflower that way, sparying them with cooking spray first.

The veggies you are had OG, were they raw? If so, it could have just been an herbed vinagrete.

Tracy, the veggies at OG were kinda soft so maybe roasted? It kinda had a very slight taste of wine. Kinda hard to explain. Maybe they had been marinated in some sort of vinagrete. Gotta try that.

After taking a LONG hiatus to get my medication on track and life situated, I'm up 20lbs. icon_sad.gif

BUT...that means I'm still 20lbs less than I was when I originally started here with you (I lost 40lbs total)!!

So, I'm back. I'm back to get back on track, to lose the weight, because I know I can and I'm ready.

Going to Red Lobster for dinner tonight...getting the crab legs. Low in carbs (my diet is following Protein Power), high in protein, and I get to choose between having a biscuit or eating half the mashed potatoes. icon_wink.gif

I'M BACK!!!

Last week was a very long up and down roller coaster week! Nothing went as planned, and I didn't get a break through out the weekend, since I had too much stuff to do. UGH!

I have class the next three nights so I'm hoping come Thurs I am not too drained and am feeling okay.

Trying to eat better, having ups and downs, but I'm still hanging in there.

I think I have kinda fell of the earth the past few weeks. I have been trying pretty hard to keep on trach. I have been cutting out a lot of my sweets lately and I think things are going a little better since I feel my clothes getting looser. For lunches I have been eating a ww bagel with low fat cheese and broccoli. I have 1 sweet during the day, usually a 100 calorie pack of something, and when I use to eat sweets at night after my gym class, I make myself a smoothie with berries and fat free milk. The first week I was startving all the time, but I am getting used to it now, so I am not as hungry.
I did go on the scale about a week ago, and I was up 1 lb from the last time I weighed myself. For me I know to take that 1lb with a grain of salt, since I know my weight can really fluctuate depending on the day. Yesterday I didn't eat that great since we had the whole family over for mother's day.
