I found this site and thought I would share it with all of you. It has many different types of buttercreams and recipes. Here's the link
http://www.sweetcelebrations.us/Recipes/BUTTERCREAMS.htm
Hope you all find it as informative as I did.
thanks for sharing...you don't realize how many variations there are, until you get a bunch of them on one page. Definitely book marked for future reference.
I too want to add my thanks to the list. I printed out each page and filed it in my daily expanding, "how to" cake decorating folder!
it is a good site. i'm so confused though i thought most buttcreams were supposed to have unsalted butter yet i see some recipes calling to Add salt.. not to sound dunce but why? and why use unsalted butter only to add salt later. just confuzzled is all

It's the taste factor. Some salted butters have a more salty taste and some unsalted butters have no taste at all. I use salted butter for flavor and add additional popcorn salt to cut the sweetness of the sugar. But the amount of salt total in my recipe is not enough to give anyone a stroke. It's inconsequential. But it is there to direct the flavor to where I want it to be. Hope that helps!
omg i just realized i'd typoed buttercream!!! oh i'm so embarrassed!!! lol
