AThe person i'm making the cake for on sat asked if by chance could I write on the cake instead of using tappits etc, I had a go with buttercream and a number nozzle, and although I have nice handwriting I can't write nicely on a cake, I texted her to say I want unless I practised, she was ok, just feel I let myself down.

@nannycook121 when I have written on a cake with icing I use a edible pen to write on the cake first then just go over in icing cheating I know lol

Nanny, what I did before was I printed out whatever I was going to write on a cake on a piece of paper first- print it to scale so it's the right size. Then I place the paper on the fondant, and trace it with something sharp onto the SP. Then I go over the writing on the fondant with RI. Does that make sense?

Nanny I am the same! When I did my bear cake I used a set of impression stamps that I picked up in the range. They are a rubbery type stamp and i pressed those in first and then piped into the grooves. Much easier as the icing seems to just automatically fall in lol. I havent tried again since then but will do again soon so I will let you know if it was a complete fluke! If not go get some

Barbara - I only ever pipe - it's what I veer towards naturally.  When I was taught, we were told to trace our letters and transfer to the cake - apparently it was OK if some graphite got on to the cake according to my teacher - I don't of course know if that's the case now! Then I pipe with a 1 or 2 and go over again with a 0 or a 1 - sometimes I do it again in a smaller size.

AEvening all. :-)

My cake frame came! Yay! :-D

Lovely cake tiddy.

And lovely cake sugarluva. You'd never guess you had trouble with it. Have you tasted it yet?

Kathy I'm not a fan of chocolate cake but mud cake is delicious! I think it's because it uses real melted chocolate rather than just cocoa powder so it tastes chocolatey not cocoa-y. I had a lot of trouble with mud cake cracking and splitting so I stopped making them but I'm thinking about trying again using my bake even strips. Or trying the fudge cake recommended by Siany maybe. What I'd like to find is a chocolate sponge made with melted chocolate and stays spongelike not dense and heavy like mud cake. When I make chocolate cake for other people I just replace some of the flour with cocoa powder. I don't like it much but other people seem to.

Chezzabelle, hope everything went well at hospital.

Nanny I was going to suggest marking the cake first somehow then going over it. I'm sure you'll be good at it, especially if you've got nice writing. Practise on something a few times first, I'm sure it won't take you long to master.

Siany I can't think of anywhere milk could be hidden either.

Tiddy love the cake very pretty and the backdrop looks fab.

Sugarluva the cake turned out great I love the colour it really pops.

Nanny I am rubbish at piping but bought this a while ago that you press into the cake and pipe over not had a chance to use it yet though.

Maisie one of my books uses melted chocolate in a madeira cake instead of cocoa maybe you might like that.

Chezza hope everything went ok at the hospital. How did you get on with the madeira cake?

Glad hospital went well chezzabelle. They give you a headache as soon as you walk in don't they.

Hi

Sorry been a bit quiet - I'm currently alternating between sheer hysteria and just burying my head in the sand.  1001 things to do and my list seems to be growing instead of decreasing!

Anyway...  I hope someone can help... I seem to be able to find every shape of cookie cutter under the sun - except for a decent sized rectangle!!!!!! I've found one on eBay, but it's much too small (aprox 5cm x 3.5cm) I need one that's a good 3.5" tall x 2.5" wide. Not exactly that size, but something thereabouts....

Any ideas?

Thanks

Suzanne xx

I hope this link works. They're from America I think but it says delivery by the 29th November. The biggest one is 4 1/2 inches. Any good?
