ASiany, if the second tier is 8" then 6" top tier would look better. So I would go for more than £350 just for the cakes and around £2.50 each for the cupcakes as you are going to do silhouettes.

Sorry Bashini, the my wording was rubbish lol There is 2 tiers, a 10 & 8 with 5 hand moulded figures and the GOT throne and obviously the decoration on each of the tiers.

Yes - it's in the church on the corner of The Drive and The Eastern Avenue (well, it was when I went a few years ago).
I actually go to the one in Romford, though. The Redbridge one meets on a Saturday which just isn't convenient for me. Romford meets the 2nd Monday of the month (ie this coming Monday). I'm hoping to go, as their demo is carving a car cake. I DON'T DO car cakes, so I'm hoping this may give me some confidence to try. Let me know if you fancy it and would like more info re where it is. I think the meetings start at 7.30pm or 7.45pm....
Ooh where in Romford? Might see what my daughter wants to do. Please pm me some details. Thanks!
Kathy
Sorry - not caught up completely yet but CONGRATS Victoria! (Who's doing the cake?)

Aha!!! I don't think 8" will be too big as you have to place all those on the top. :-)
Thanks Lizzy, Relznik, Kuuushi, Marvel, Chezzabelle (and hello to you , I don't think we've met before), Bashini, Siany, Nanny and Kathy (and I'm really sorry if I've missed anyone!)

Ahh, congratulations Victoria, that's lovely news Was your h2b very romantic? And most importantly, will you be making your own cake???
He doesn't like being "soppy" (he's just walked in and added that I don't either, which is true) but I was very excited! And yes, I will be making my own cake . According to my Dad my current favourite design looks like a rocket, but that *isn't* true
I knew he was going to ask at some stage, but had no idea it was going to be then! He asked me after his graduation ceremony
Ouch Siany, a burnt cake video at that price?! Tragicomic muchly...
evening all :)
Wow too much to catch up on so i just skimmed through! Kelsey was that yesterday?! Was in the post office and loadsa fire engines went past! haha!
Congrats Victoria :)
M4rvel monkeys do look better :)
Ok so I had the worst night ever and broke my record and had 9 attacks in 24 hours! Relentless...have had no sleep at all and worst thing was my o2 was running out and no jabs ...bless my hubby for sorting that out first thing
Also had a hair appointment this afternoon and was so close to cancelling...You are prob all thinking yes but...............firstly it was 40% off a colour cut and Blowdry that was booked before this cycle started and secondly its the firsttime in about 25 years ive been! So i really didnt want to miss out :( Anyway managed to go, flashed my ouch card and pre warned the poor stylist that at any point i may have to jab a needle in my derierre! She was very good about it lol.
No attack and the hairdo took soooooo long! Not quite like a nice n easy box whacked on your barnet for half hour and so hear is me, up to date...forgive the layer of concealer to cover eye bags etc!
ALooking sassy @Tiddy :). Glad you were ok at the hairdressers, of anyone deserves some pampering at the moment it's you :)
sassy?! hahaha! best laugh all day Siany thanks feeling like a granny today i can tell ya!
AYou look lovely tiddy, and when you then take into account the supremely crappy day you had I think you look amazing!
Can anyone tell me why I resisted buying a cranked palette knife for so long? I've always thought they were a gimmick, but I bought one yesterday on a whim when placing an order, used it today and I think it's great! So much easier then a flat one for layers.
Smush cake. I think that's marketable Siany :-D
Beddybyes now, I'm cream crackered. I hope you have a better time of it tomorrow (and tonight) tiddy. Night all :-)
ATiddy you look great that colour really suits you, at least you managed to enjoy your hair cut without having a attack
AWow tidds, looking good! Abit of a pick me up, much needed no doubt?
Lizzy, I thought that too, I bought one and it make make life abit easier.

I have been asked to do a quote on a GOT wedding cake with cupcakes. Have a feeling the brides budget doesn't stretch to what she is asking though. It would be an awesome cake to do but a lot of work.
She is thinking (sizes I have picked for her numbers) 10 inch base with black and red scales covering it. 8 inch second tier with hand painted banner for one of the family emblems (either painted or cut out silhouette) topper of the throne and models of her, her partner and their 3 children. 30 cupcakes decorated in GOT, probably with silhouette logos or shield on them) Cakes will be Chocolate.
I would rather have a 6 inch on top but the topper she wants is rather large so thinking the 8 would be needed.
How much do you think for all that. I have an idea but wanted to see what you guys think.
Thanks
Siany please take care to price this one carefully. As I said in an earlier post I was asked to do a throne cake and spent hours trying to locate sword cutters to get the basic sword blade but to be realistic you would then have to model the hilts and there are loads of swords on the throne. I also researched how I would do the family emblem and concluded the best and quickest way would be to cut a stencil. There was a company at CI last year that would make bespoke stencils. Add to that 5 figures and decorations for the cupcakes and unless you are a Ninja like our Tiddy that's a load of hours. Fun yes, and if you are doing it for practice your price is ok. If you are doing it as an earner my gut feeling is that you are undercharging.

AMorning cake mates! Great pic Tiddy! You definitely need a bit of tlc at the moment.
Lizzy - same here! I only got mine last week....I'm basically a skinflint at heart but this flippin' site has made me spend sooooo much money (I blame Nanny!) :-D
This question now sounds daft in my head...but here goes: I am thinking of securing our engaged couple silhouette to the cake by means of spaghetti - now, bearing in mind there will be some moisture in the cake (hopefully! Lol) how long will it be before the spaghetti "degrades" and becomes soft? The issue is that the leg on the girl is so thin that I don't think a cocktail stick will do...what do you all think?
Thanks!
Kathy
AMorning Kathy,
Don't put spaghetti. Use a skewer. Spaghetti does go soft which has happened to me a few times when I was making models.:)
Tiddy you look lovely!!! Hope the night went pain free.
AThanks Kathy, I always get the fault, oddly enough I've stopped spending, cakes have dried up last 2 weeks.
I totally agree with Bashini, I used spaghetti two yrs for the head of a girl I made, obviously over a week it had gone soft and the head snapped off, the day before delivery, I was not a happy bunny, as the hair broke off too,(told this story before) and moving in the same week, I took stress to a new level I can tell you.
AThanks ladies - you have confirmed what I thought really. The girl is very delicate - the boy not so much as he is on bended knee. I am worried about the support showing. Well better that than the thing drooping and breaking I guess. Kathy
How about a cocktail stick instead of spaghetti? Practically same thickness - and they're food use, so OK to use in a cake!
I've done this a few times.

Catsmum, thank you. You're right. I think it's a lot of work. I have already quoted her but her budget is only £200 so I've told her she is unlikely to get a GOT. Cake within that budget as it's very detailed skilled work. The other cakes she sent me were in the £800-£1200 range, 4-5 tier masses of detail, piping, modelling, stencilling, airbrushing etc I think she has ideas way above her budget lol
It's a friend of my daughters so if she does get someone to do it for that budget I get to see the end result lol
AKathy what about using wire and putting a flower pick in the cake. It would allow you to have a smaller stick that won't be seen

Once again BIG ideas, LITTLE budget. Whatever she gets for that money will not be what is in her head. I just hated the idea of you flogging yourself to death then hating doing it as you would have been so out of pocket.
Morning all
Tiddy looking goood , hope you had a pain free night.
Kathy could you not use two silhouettes and sandwich them together with a coffee stirrer in between.
morning all :) Not a totally pain free night but only 1 attack at 1am so feeling a lot better today! Just been in the cake room and got all my dummies out to see whats there and I dont have as many naked ones as i thought so have just ordered a few more! Will strip a few display ones down too i think :)
I really do have to go ninja on this lot as the fayre is end of month and ive only a small free window of time aaargh! Dont know why I do it lol (well yeah i do, cos it was cheap lol)
Picking the ninja mobil up tomorrow morning eeeek! Sorted the insurance last night which was cheaper than i thought it would be...bonus!
I swear ive spent soooo much money this week!
Ok off to get some spontaneous designs flowing! Ive no idea what im going to do other than maybe some brush embroidery, lace butterflies and large flowers
AOooh Roxy - that's a good idea! Thanks - we have lots of extras - just need to make sure they are all the same!! :)

I'd blame Nanny! ;)
Kathy
Haha poor Nanny she always gets the blame, though it was her fault I bought books from the works the other day
Glad you had an easier night Tiddy, looking forward to seeing what you come up with for your dummies.
I always make two and sandwich them together Kathy as I don't like seeing the support.
