That makes sense about the whipping. What would I do without you guys?! Thank you so much for all the ganache knowledge. I've been reading up on technique for achieving smooth sides and sharp edges, so I'm pretty much ready to go. I'm going to order a scraper, mini spirit level and turntable in a bit, I think.
Any last minute recommendations on a turntable and/or scraper?
I used to have a bog standard, no-name turntable, then I splashed out on the PME tilting one and I am thoroughly converted. Edge scrapers-wise, metal is best, but any do the job.
AJust made some cat figurine toppers. But I can't show you to reassure myself. I can't put them on a cake without you telling me they're not pants!!!! ;)
AThanks m4rvel re: stand. :-) Not sure I understand what you mean about the cats. If you're saying you think they're pants but we'll say they're not pants even if they are pants, dw, put them on, we'll be honest.
I've got the Wilton deluxe turntable, it's fine, turns smoothly however heavy the cake is and it's the only one I've had so I've nothing to compare it with. If I'd bought my own (it was a present) I would've got the pme tilting one, I regularly eye it up at Hobbycraft and I've lost count of the times I've picked mine up and tilted it. I've got a metal scraper, eBay about £4.
AQuick question, any ideas on how I could make baked beans juice? I'm making a little dish of baked beans for my KFC cake. The beans are just going to be small jelly beans but I can't think of how to make the juice look realistic! I'm thinking of something jelly based so that it sets but how could I make it opaque and not clear without making it yucky?
Can you also make the PME one flat or does it end up a bit high when it's like that? I've found it on Amazon for £9.80, so sounds like it's a good choice.
ADon't know about that sock monkey, I've always just assumed you could. I meant to say my Wilton one has a lockable function on it. I didn't think much of it at first but I use it loads, really handy.
Can't help sugarluva, sorry. I'm curious now tho.

I want a lockable function, actually one of those would be good on the kids too haha

Titanium dioxide in some jelly? Or some of it in something should make it opaque without flavouring it. I've got a Sugarflair one I use for macarons and when I was making lots of grey cakes (I did a depressed cake shop last year, if anyone has heard of it!)

I'm thinking icing - is it called glacé? Icing sugar and water (that we all used to ice fairy cakes with our grannies when we were kids).
AI reckon thin royal coloured orange. That way it won't set solid! OHHH KFC gravy *dribbles*
Finished the cake. Warp speed like the day! I channelled some tiddy and got it done in 4 hours boooya!
I don't love it I don't hate it. It accept it hahaha!
Here it is!

Father and son on the same day. Two birds one stone and all that hahaha
AI was there on Sat, she remembered I'd one on hols bless her, bought the jam, lovely jam there, and icing sugar, 3 boards and boxes, ribbon and a box of icing, £30 later!!
AHaha! I'm not too fussed on the two women. The younger lady has a bit of an attitude with me and I've never really spoke to the woman with blonde hair but I've heard her talking to others.
The man, Ron is it? He's lovely. Always really helpful!
I send my mam a list if I'm gonna be down for her to go for me. Spend a fortune there!
AThanks everyone, you all always have such good ideas. I'll have a play tomorrow and see which looks best. Titanium dioxide sounds scary though!
Fantastic cake Kelsey and amazed you got it done so quickly!

Haha, I know! It sounds like something you'd use in a very dangerous science experiment. I suspect the other ideas are probably better and closer to baked bean sauce.
AFor bean juice (Mmmm....tasty....!) I was going to say piping gel! Or you could actually make proper jelly, just a bit thicker so it sets harder, isn't Heston always making things like that out of mango jelly and things? I'm sure I saw a him make a giant egg that was pannacotta (autocorrect = panda outta pahahaha!) with a mango yolk before now - yum! pass me the spoon!
Turntable wise, I use a bog standard Ikea Lazy Susan for making the actual cakes as it's easier being lower to the counter I find, and then I have the tilting PME one for detailed decorative work.
Fab cake Kuushi, the board looks great with the stripes :)
Ooh I forgot about the tangerine pooch incident! Have you got it all out ok?

Ps- you may need a new tangerine sugar flair nic...
Jus sayin... ;)
Hehe
Haha yes I do indeed need a new one now. I will have to go and grab some before by bean juice experimenting I think, or at least some kind of orange colouring.
It's almost all out thanks Mel. It's off the sofa and floors completely now but there are just a few splodges on his legs and feet that are being stubborn. They're not massively noticeable though as he's got orange spots anyway!
AHahah! Marvel I've lots count! :p
Glad you all like it. I think the trick to sleeping well after a cake now is to chill and let cake her out of my mind and/or show the person if they are available!
It went down well anyway so
AMorning
Great cake Kelsey well done :-)
look what's just made it on my Xmas list .... got to be loads better than the butchers style apron I usually need shoehorning out of !!!

Waste? You waste ganache??? You're supposed to eat any leftovers LOL!
Well, yeah... it's, like, the law or something?!!!!
I've some wafer paper cupcake toppers that I need to attach to fondant circles. What's the best way to glue them on without warping the wafer? The last time I used wafer paper was when I made the wings for my Golden Snitch cake, and when I used edible glue to glue two pieces together they warped big time!
I use the tiniest, tiniest bit of piping gel, just around the edge.
Why don't you love it? It's fab!!! LOL @ chanelling some Tiddy! Is she OK? Don't seem to have seen her here for a while.....
Jo - that apron's pretty!! Perfick for flitting between guests and kitchen at Christmas!!
I have my to-do list ready for today!!
One of the items is a 'would be nice if I have time' so I'll allow that one to roll over until tomorrow if necessary.
But the rest I have to do - and I SHOULD definitely be able to do. Let's see how this procrastinator gets on, shall we?
But first.... breakfast!
