My 10 year old Kitchen Aid started making a funny sound the other night. I have never done any maintenance to it before. Should I have been? If so, what (oiling like a sewing machine maybe)?

Thanks so much!

The entire motor assembly is contained in the mixer's head and is sealed. There really is no maintenance you can perform on it except to make sure the mixing attachments are aligned to the proper depth in the bowl. If your attachments touch the bottom of the bowl, it may put stress on the motor, but other than that, there really is no need to do anything except keep it clean.
