We get paid only once a month and that's not until tomorrow. For the past week I have been scrounging to make meals with very little. I'm clean out of ideas.
All I have to work with is: 1/2 pound of pork sausage; can of cream of mushroom soup; some fzn corn; maybe 1/2 cup onion (fresh, chopped); some dry noodles & rice; can of manderine orange sections; and a can of baked beans.
We've had some kind of a bean/cheese dish the past couple of nights.
Anyone have any ideas/recipe??
Go to ezeating.net and enter what you have. It will give you recipes for your ingredients. I use it all the time when I need something new. Hope that helps!
My mom used to make 'hash' when we were young.
She would use ground beef but you could strip the casing off the sausage and brown it with the onion and salt/pepper. Add the frozen corn and cook. Cook the rice seperately then mix it all together. She would serve it with a can of stewed tomatoes or ketchup.
It's actually very tasty.
Well the idea of ezeating was no help It said to go grocery shopping! ;(
I'm thinking I'll just mix the sausage w/stove top ... much like dians suggested.
If anyone else has any suggestions I'm still all ears for another couple of hrs
I was thinking of a casserole using the sausage like you would ground beef. Brown the sausage with the chopped onion, add some sort of spices if necessary, drain, add cream of mushroom soup and maybe the corn? I'm not a big corn eater. I'd probably taste it and see if I thought the corn would be good with it. It sounds like this would be better with rice than noodles. Either mix together and bake or serve on top. Do you have any Parmesan cheese to add to it?
Or, instead, brown the sausage with onion, drain, add to the baked beans. My husband would be all for adding rice to this! We like mustard and ketchup added to our baked beans, as well as a little brown sugar. Do you have any of that? Serve the corn on the side.
Mandarin oranges around here either go in jello (my family loves this) or in salad (I love that). I tried to think of something else to do with it and couldnt' come up with anything. Just on your plate by itself, I guess?
You could 'extend' the mushroom soup by adding chopped cooked sausage and rice or pasta.

OR make some sort of mushroom pasta

If only you had a can of green beans you could make this lovely dish -
Made of the two things I despise most... but thought you might appreciate a little humor today

I am sure I am too late, but you could google "dirty rice". This recipe normally uses sausage, onion, and rice. I have seen recipes calling for cream of mushroom too.
