I'm just soooo sorry to hear that you are sick again. Did you call the Dr today? Take is easy for a bit and try to get well again. Hope you feel better real soon.

I called yesterday morning and they agreed that it sounds like a nasty sinus infection so they called in the antibiotics last night. I should start feeling better soon. The doctor also wants to see me about my last thyroid test...he's not entirely happy with the numbers that came back in my last one, so he wants to sit down with me and figure some things out. *shrug*

I'm going to do a proper update, now that I'm feeling a bit better. icon_smile.gif

So, before vacation, I had lost another pound to put me a mere TWO pounds from my goal of 145. By the end of vacation (and after two authentic Philly cheesesteaks, a Cinnabon, Hardee's biscuits and gravy, McDonald's, Burger King, and various yummy snacks and foods prepared by Grammy, my husband's grandmother) I had only put on two pounds. Within a week of returning home, that two pounds was gone, but I think mostly due to the fact that I got sick...again. icon_sad.gif

I couldn't TASTE anything. icon_cry.gif Even my favorite flavor of Diet Rite merely tasted of Splenda. And not to mention it was THAT time of the month.

But I prevailed...I'm back down. But I think the best part?

On vacation, I stopped in at New York and Co (we don't have one in our mall) to find a pair of dark wash jeans that look nice enough to wear to work...and the size TEN I bought fit like a dream! icon_wink.gif It's official...I'm a size TEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*does the "I don't have to suck in my gut to button a size 10" dance* icon_wink.gif

Maybe when I'm not bloated from that monthly thing, that last two pounds will drop?

Jade, I couldn't help but chuckle when I read what you had eaten. I'm so familiar with each and everything you mentioned, up close and personal icon_lol.gif I'm just glad that you were able to lose those two pounds so quickly. Wow, into a size 10 pants, AWESOME!! I was wearing my size 10 about a month ago. Today, well, not so much icon_rolleyes.gif
So glad that you are feeling a bit better today. That antibiotic should make you feel so much better within the next day or two. Those last 2 pounds are gonna be off before you know it!! You're almost there.

Jade, a huge congrats to you on being a size 10!!!!!

I agree there is no sense basking in our own guilt of eating badly or not exercising. Tomorrow is a new day, and we should all aim to do better tomorrow than we did today! icon_smile.gif We are all here for each other through the ups and downs!

I'm swimming at lunch time. The weather here is the pits, snow and freezing rain and much to miserable to get outside. I don't have a treadmill or gym membership so rely on a couple decent days of weather a week. I want spring NOW!

Hey,

I lost 3.6lbs this week icon_smile.gif Probably when I wet my pants being trapped in an aggressive patients room at work and was stuck between the tray table pushed into the wall and the bed he was rocking across the room. I was thankful for security and Keith (the psych er nurse) that came to my rescue.

Way to go Jade for losing those pesky two pounds and getting into a size 10!!!

I am eager for better weather to be here too. It snowed last night again boo thumbsdown.gif

Congrats!! We are so proud of you!!

I'm in that in between size right now. 14's don't fit right but I have to do the suck in gut move to get in to some 12's. Ahhh, one day.... icon_smile.gif

So yesterday I challenged Rhonda, our treadmill, and she beat me. I wasn't able to complete my two miles. I had a headache before I started walking and I kept waiting for that point where it should had gone away, but that never happened. After mile one I got a pain in my side that wouldn't go away, so I ended up stopping after 1.5 miles. Still something, just not the two miles I would have liked.

Well tonight, I did my two miles, and I did awesome. I mean yeah I was huffing and puffing at the end and had sweat rivers running down me, but I did it!

Before bed tonight I plan to do some ab exercies, so that's an extra bit for me. I'm trying to do my walking and another form of exercise with it.

I still need to have my sit down with myself. I may do that next. Feel the need to write how I'm feeling right now and the thoughts going through my head. I have that exercise high right now. HeHe.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday. It rained today so I'm hoping tomorrow is a drier day.

Margie, my husband can't swim a stroke either! I used to swim a lot but now only do it occasionally as I'm trying to focus on running and completing a couple road races this summer! icon_biggrin.gif

That being said, my running partner and I couldn't meet up for almost 2 weeks and while I continued running and increasing distance, she didn't run at all. So our last run was not good as she had to stop to walk frequently and I just wanted to keep going... I'm not sure how to handle the relationship as I don't want to be held back by her non-commitment to running on her own. *sigh*

Janelle, CONGRATS!! Sounds like you were in a scary situation, I'm glad things are okay. I suggest that if peeing our pants causes that much weight loss, we all do it right now. LMAO!!!!

TexasSugar, way to go on the treadmill last night!!!! icon_smile.gif We can't win all the time, but as long as we conquer exercise most of the time then we are on the right track!

We are supposed to get 20 cm of snow today and tonight, a run is in the plans for lunch time today so hopefully we get out before the storm starts!!

Janelle - GREAT weight loss, WOW!! Way to go!!!!!!!!!!
Tracy - what speed do you set your treadmill on? I've got my sweats on and am about to tackle mine this morning. Hmmmm, so yours has a name huh? OK, gotta think of a name for mine. I also need to do something else other than walking. Just trying to figure out what I can do that I would actually stick with. I think I'm going to go to the sports store and get a badminton net and some rackets. That sounds like fun.
It looks like rain here today too. But it's supposed to be getting warmer and I'm all for that.....
katherine - I do envy your running. I so wish I could do that. I've never been a runner and I think it's true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks icon_lol.gif I have a friend who watches out the window for me to go walking. As soon as she sees me, she comes out to walk with me. While I really enjoy her company and her friendship, she is not into the walking for the exercise and weight loss. She just enjoys a slow pace and conversation. So, I know exactly what you are talking about with your friend. I try to get my most serious walking done on the treadmill and then if I have time, I'll go walking outside and do a slower pace with my friend.
OK, have a great day everyone. Hey by the way, what's everyone having for dinner tonight????

Oh YUM, that does sound good!! Yeah, I measure everything like that too. It's surprising how many calories are in things you would have never even thought twice about before. WOW, sounds like your hubby is doing great. It does make it easier when both of you are working towards the same goal, doesn't it?
I think we are having grilled salmon, brocolli and boiled potatoes tonight. Then some fruit between dinner and TV time. During TV, a 100 calorie bag of popcorn. Gotta have my popcorn.... icon_lol.gif

Margie, I start off at 2.8 to 3 on a 2.0 incline and work my way up to a 3.4 or 3.5 by the end of the first mile. Last night I did most of the second mile at 3.6. I'm trying to keep it moderate because I know the last time I started walking I did it too fast too soon and got pain in my shins. So now I'm trying to ease my way back into it. When I get going good I get up there between 3.8 and 4.0 and play with the incline more.

As far as naming her, well she actually named herself. It is one of those with the 'professional trainer' and has the different work out settings. I don't like those settings though. I mean I like that 'she' plays with the incline and speed for ya so it challenges you, but at the same time she stops you and wants you to get off and do other arm and legs exercises. So the walking portion is usually only about 20 mins and not a mile. I'd rather just walk straight and play with my own settings and walk my two miles.

Katherine, when your friend takes a break and can't keep up with you, I wouldn't slow down to accommodate her. While you are running buddies you can't compromise your work out because of her. By pushing on, it will show her that if she takes a break she will lag behind and maybe she will work harder when you don't run together.

While having a workout/running/walking buddy is great, because you can help motivate each other, it can also hurt people as well. If one partner doesn't hold up their end of the bargain then the other can suffer with them or be held back. Try to help encourage her, but don't let her sabotage your efforts.

I don't know that I could ever be a runner, though a few years ago I didn't know I could walk 2 and 3 miles with out dying. I keep thinking maybe one day I'll attempt jogging, but for now I'll stick to jogging.

The beef stir fry does sound good. I make pork stir fry often. Lately I have cut back on the amount of meat and added more veggies. I'll also measure my rice out since that is one of those things that is easy to get a lot of. I'm trying to cut back on the sauce, but it is just so good. icon_smile.gif

Tonight I am making Skettie and either meatballs or meat sauce. Yeah I know the noodles aren't the best and my parents, whom I am cooking for, don't like the multi grain ones, but we haven't had skettie in a long time. So I'm going to trying to keep my portion of noodles small. I'll have to see what veggies look good at the store or visit the freezer veggies and pick from there.

I still haven't made it up for breakfast this week. Every night when I go to bed I can't sleep. UGH! One day I'm just gonna have to force myself to get up on little sleep and deal with it.

I'm not sure what extra work out I'm gonna to today. I have all kinds of things at home now that I can use. A yoga matt, exercise ball, exercise step, couple sets of hand weights, the resistance bands (skinny ones) and now the bands that are flat and wide. I need to look up some exercises that use them I guess. Or pull out those videos. I've spent enough on the stuff I need to start actually using it. icon_wink.gif

Hey monkies,

Just a quick check in. Seems that exercise was not helping me lose weight. i haven't worked out in weeks and the weight on the scale is finally dropping again. the lack of work out is more about time and a very very tender foot. Insurance is about to change again and I'm hoping I can get them cover rehab for plantar fasciitis because stretches and exercises at home are not fixing it.

My husband is out of town again. This time until April 24. He finally got his deployment orders and his batallion is leaving June 12. They will spend a few weeks stateside then going overseas. we don't know yet where exactly, but I'm not really looking forward to the time with him away.

My cake classes have been slow. My school work has suffered and I'm really wishing I had more outlets for cake. But honestly I just can't get excited about making free cakes for the sake of making them. I did however finish my cousins cake March 14 and every raved about it. I've also been asked to do another cousins cake in July. So at least my family loves me.

I was hoping to go to the McKinney cake show in TX with Chippi, but at this point I think my husband is coming home that weekend so that means no cake show for me. =(

Best of luck to everyone and thanks for letting me chatter on.

Hey Deb! Sorry to hear about the foot pain. My mom has had problems with that. She said that the sleeping in the foot braces helped, plus her doctor told her to never go bare foot, to where a good quality shoe and put support pads in them.

Sounds like with everything going on you need a big ole hug... so here... HUG!!

I didn't even have any classes in March. Still haven't heard back from my DM and SM if I can do the less than 4 people classes or not. So annoying and frustrating!!

I've kept up my walking this week. Two miles every night but that one, and last night I was able to do 3.7 for about a 1/3rd of the second mile. I really want to walk faster, as I try to beat my time every night, but I'm still scared I'm gonna push to hard to fast and end up hurting. I haven't done as well with the 'extra' bit of working out I wanted to do the last two days. And I'm still not getting up early enough in the mornings. Ugh, but I am try to watch what I eat, and hopefully will be able to start getting that in control and moving forward.

I've been shopping three times this week for flowers and seeds. I'm so glad spring is here!! Of course the weather here this week has been crappy with changes of rain every day. That doesn't really inspire you to go out and dig in the dirt.

I'm waiting on some potting soil, which isn't due to be in until Monday. I guess depending on how I feel this weekend I may just go buy some to get started with. I have a lot of seeds that I want to get in some dirt so they will get to growing and I can have pretty flowers this summer!

Happy Friday everyone!

Ok, gonna try this again. I've sent two replies today and neither posted for some reason icon_surprised.gif
Tracy - after reading your post a couple of days ago, I was going to say that you and I are on just about the same routine on the treadmill. However, after reading your post today, I've got to say, you're one up on me. I've never increased the speed as high as you have. I usually start it around 3.0 and go up to 3.4 for the majority of the two miles that I walk. I started back on the treadmill a couple of days ago after not having been on it for several weeks. I couldn't even get to 1 1/2 miles before my legs just gave out. I thought, geeez, those 3 weeks off really did a job on me. Well, I got to thinking about it later and thought that I had better go check the incline and see what it is set on. Well, sure enough dear hubby changed it from what I keep it on which is normally 1.5 up to 4.0. Well, duh, no wonder my legs were cramping so badly. I can't believe I didn't notice the incline, especially when my legs started hurting so badly. I'll know next time!!
I couldn't help but laugh when I read that you were having skettie for dinner. (By the way, that's what I call it too) Believe it or not, everytime my hubby and I have skettie, the next day our weight is down. I am totally serious. We can't understand why that happens. I mean, we eat a pretty good amount of it along with a salad. But I'm not gonna complain. PASS THE SKETTIE!!!!!!
It has rained here too for days. Forecast is that the sun won't even shine until possibly Monday. Oh well, maybe after that it will be warmer and sunny. Sooooooo looking forward to that.
OK, time to get my chicken in the oven. Hope everyone has a wonderful week-end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone! i would love to join your group if I may.... icon_smile.gif

So, a little about myself. I was happy with my weight until i had my two kids. I was never skinny but I mountainbiked as a teenager so I was well muscled and very healthy. I have been around 290 for about 3 years now and I am ready to get this weight off of me. I have degenerate disc disease in my back along with arthritis and I think I will feel much better. I am only 28 and I can't even run with my kids anymore and I hate that. I am 9 days into a very low calorie diet and I am down to 282. I know that doing this is dangerous so I am being very careful. I have only been eating about 500 calories a day but I am making them really count nutrition-wise. I am determined to get this weight off quickly so my back will stop hurting. I am also scared of the obesity related diseases and think that I am more scared of that in the long run. I hope to make it to 260 within about 6 weeks or so and then go up to about 1000 calories a day to get down to about 210. I am 5'11" and have a bit of a large chest so 210 should be pretty good for me. I have never had a problem maintaining my weight so hopefully I won't ever have to do this again. Hey, I can dream can't I? lol

The hardest thing so far has been losing my sweet tea. I am a sweet tea-aholic. The first 3 days were pure hell as I withdrew from caffeine and sugar. I had a headache like no other. I am adjusting better now though and think I should be able to keep the willpower to see this thing through. I appreciate your help and even though I have no knowledge of dieting, I hope I can be of some help to some of you.

Hiyas Mollie,

Just a heads up - if you're going down to that level of calorie intake, make sure you're under the care of a doctor and doing it on his recommendation and with him monitoring you closely. 500 calories a day is way too little, and very dangerous for you. Most diets recommend no less than 1200 calories a day.

What happens when you cut back so low is that your body thinks it's going into starvation mode, and won't let go of the fat. You have to eat in order to lose weight; it's just a matter of eating the right things.

Realistically, you can only lose about 2 lbs of body fat a week and stay healthy. If you're losing more than that, you're losing muscle mass, not body fat, which is NOT a good thing.

Your best bet is to get yourself some support and a reasonable diet to follow. Weight Watchers is a great group if you want to do the meeting thing. Otherwise, have a look at some books like Dr. Phil's or South Beach. A book on general nutrition is a must as well. I'd always recommend avoiding diets that have the pre-packaged food, because you have to learn to cook real food for yourself at some point. Stick to whole foods and leave the processed foods behind.

Whatever diet you chose, you need to make sure it's nutritionally balanced, and understand that you need to establish eating patterns that are sustainable, because that's the only way to keep the weight off long term.

Good luck to you.

Hahaha good for you - I've called previous diet phases the "My Next Boyfriend Is Going To See Me Naked" diet.

Unfortunately my weight has been sneaking up over the last couple of years, since I went back to college full time. Mostly it's just that I have a crazy schedule, and make poor choices based on ease. Anyway, I'm graduating in December and getting engaged soon.

Therefore, I officially started the "I Need To Look Good In My Wedding Pics" diet (hey, whatever works, right?) I have at least 18 months to get to where I want to be, so plenty of time.

I find that a low-carb style works best for me - I'm not hungry and once I get through the first couple weeks, I don't crave carbs and my overall appetite diminishes. I don't do tons of bacon & all that, and I do eat tons of lean meats, veggies, some fruit, some low fat dairy, some complex carbs. Unfortunately it means no baking - argh.

Mollie, please, please rethink your plan. As Sue said, you should not go under 1200 calories. Your body need calories to function. Your body needs you to eat more food than that.

Instead of cutting back your calories to suck a small amount, see if there is an exercise that you can do to help lose weight.

Also, weight loss should not be a speedy journey. That is why all the fad diets that cause you to lose weight fast do not work. Weight loss is a struggle and hard work. The slower you lose the weight, the more likely you will be able to keep it off in the long run.

If you insist on continuing your original plan please contact your doctor and discuss it with him.

Believe me, everyone that ever posted on this board would love to lose the weight weekly that the people on the Biggest Loser lose, but it is just not possible, nor healthy, to do in the real world. I'd love to see the numbers on how many actually kept the weight off after the show.

Thank you guys for your warnings. I have read up on what can happen if you decrease your calorie intake so drastically. I am being very careful. I make sure that I am getting my protein every day and taking a multivitamin. I also make sure to each lots of vegetables as they are very low in calories. It is amazing how much you can eat and still stay below that! I have to say though that I feel better right now than I have in a long time. My legs have been swollen below the knee for as long as I can remember and that is actually almost gone! I think it was a result of all the salt I was eating. I know a lot of the weight I have lost this week has been excess fluid that I have been holding and I know this is gonna take a while. I just hope not too awful long! You know, I really didn't realize how much I was eating until I started reading up and preparing. I am disgusted to say that on a typical day I was probably taking in 6000-8000 calories with all the sweet tea and takeout. That is just horrible and I know I will never do that again now that I know exactly what is in that Big Mac and Large Fries. I am not an athletic teen anymore and that stuff just doesn't burn off like it used to!

PS I can't wait for the flowers either! I have 6 Daffodils opened up so far, my tulips have buds but no flowers and my tiger lilies are about 6 inches tall so far! Ah to dig in the dirt again! icon_smile.gif

I couldn't agree more!!! I know how anxious you can get when trying to lose weight. You want it off "yesterday" but what you are doing by consuming only 500 calories is setting yourself up for failure. I'm sorry to be so blunt but it is the truth. Your body can't go on 500 calories a day. You are starving it and you will pay the consequences for that. I can't even imagine a Dr putting an otherwise healthy person on such a low calorie diet. If you increase your activity and exercise more, you could see the same benefits and allow yourself at least 1200 calories. I have been told over and over by so many different Dr's to NEVER go below 1200 calories. I really do hope that you rethink your calorie intake. I honestly think that you are setting yourself up for disaster.

Thanks for the reassurance Jade icon_smile.gif I hope your cold is gone soon, I had a nasty cold for two weeks! i thought I could keep up on the treadmill with it until I felt really hypoxic trying to run and realized it was get off or pass out lol House hunting is tough work, how long have you been looking? I was in the market until I went and looked at some houses and realized that I just need to save more money to get into something even worth considering doing renos too! Good luck.

Mollie as everyone else has expressed 500 calories is way too little. I would recommend weight watchers online as another option if the whole meeting aspect freaks you out. I certainly was freaked out by the idea of going to meetings, but I felt comfortable following the online program.

In other news...I'm going to Vegas!!! My friend and I have booked our trip. We invited others to go, but they are trying to figure out if they are going to join us yet or not... I hope they do! I'm trying to convince her to go zip lining in the grand canyon, but she has assured me she would have a heart attack because she is so afraid of heights hehe

Also, things with the boy are progressing at a snails pace. I finally had the nerve to ask what we were doing and he was like "I thought we were dating" So after I got over my complex of this (after some discussion with our mutual friend) I have decided that slow is better than nothing icon_smile.gif

Hi and welcome!! I, too, have an under-active thyroid. If you're still feeling tired, then the amount of medicine you're taking isn't enough. Most doctor's only care about those numbers on your tests, and won't treat you once you're in the normal range. If you're still tired and symptomatic, Google stop the thyroid madness. icon_smile.gif

Other than that, I hope you're able to reach your goal!!!! Good luck!

My doctor told me to pick up Protein Power. It's basically a book that teaches you how to do low-carb, without doing NO-carb. icon_smile.gif It's been an amazing tool, and it's surprisingly easy to follow. It was hard at first, but once I figured out ways to have a little bit of the foods I love and still stay within my range of daily carbs, it was a cinch. icon_biggrin.gif
