How do I make my buttercream frosting less sweet but still stiff enough to pipe with? I'm using the wilton's buttercream right now.

add popcorn salt to your icing to cut the sweetness.

I HIGHLY recommend the recipe for "Julie's Less-Sweet Buttercream" that can be found right on this website. The recipe cuts in a little flour, which I think helps. I was not a fan of Wilton Buttercream recipe, but I love this new one. It is a crusting buttercream that pipes well, too. HTH!

There are soooooo many b'cream recipes on this site to try.
I highly recommend SugarShack's OR Indydebi's.
Also adding about 1/4 teaspoon salt helps too.

I've looked everywhere for this - but can't seem to find any.

The ones in my grocery stores always have garlic, and cheese flavorings in them....in popcorn-YUM....in buttercream-not so much.

I add popcorn salt also. I'v heard a drop of lemon juice helps cut the sweetness. but i've never tried it.
