Welcome to Cake Central! There is a lot of information on this site for you and there are several different threads regarding this very issue.
There are many states that do not allow home-based bakeries so will need to find out if your state allows it if you are thinking about that. I would look around in the Cake Decorating Business forum and I think you will see lots of different points of view.
