Christi,

Go see your doctor, talk to him/her about quiting, what you have tried and what hasn't worked let him help you.

I say this as a non smoker, my best friend was a very heavy smoker until 2 years ago. She had a heart attack and was given the choice of dieing with a cigarette or living with out them. She choose life, but she needed help, the only way she could quite was to take wellbuturn(sp?) and she did fall off the wagon a time or two before she gave it up completely.

Most important i think is not to beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon, just dust yourself off and hoist yourself back up.

I also, think it helps here in NY you are not allowed to smoke anywhere in public places except outside. Not pleasant in the middle of January

Good Luck I wish you the best. Wish I had the magic cure for ya. I figure smoking is better than murder. I'm all ready turning into the grumpy old guy. Quitting will throw me over the edge.

If you drink caffeine daily and you deny yourself that caffeine in order to try to avoid triggering an overwhelming desire for a cigarette, you are probably going to wind up with a caffeine-withdrawal headache and make fighting the urge to smoke that much harder!

Drink your caffeine!!

Christi

Good Luck with this!!! I've smoke since I was 14 - I just figured it out 11 years I've been at this. On and off - last time I tried quitting I had a break down...lol Darling boyfriend said don't try quitting again...lol said in humor of course.

I want to stop - shoot I'm tired of spending the money. I don't do it as much at home, not allowed to do it in the house only on the patio. In the winter it's much more easy not to smoke as much but when it's nice and warm and the air conditioning is freezing me out well that's another story...lol

I find that my hardest time believe it or not is in the car. Any suggestions, I've tried chewing gum etc. I'm like Christi - I'd love to stop - I give her a big kudo's for doing what she's doing because it's just down right HARD and it SUCKS. I've already gained weight from the medication the dr's put me on for my MS and this is after being 5 yrs out from Gastric Bypass Surgery. I do not under any circumstances want or can afford to gain any more weight. So with that being said Christi if you figure out what your combination is for helping you to quit then please my dear friend share away and if anyone else can offer some suggestions I'm all ears!

Christi,
Hubby smoked 2 packs a day (outside on the back porch). He decided to quit a year and half ago. He found out that there were certain places and things he associated so strongly with smoking, that he could be there or do any more. For example, he always smoked on the back porch, so for almost a year we didn't even go there. He's also stopped drinking coffee. He was pretty irritable for the first few months, okay, he was down right cranky. But it can be done.

Remember we're with ya. It will be worth it and you'll be happier and healthier in the long run.
Pat

Christi good luck to you!!! i know it's a hard battle but one that's worth fighting!!

From a dental standpoint, smoking reaks HAVIC on your teeth! it leeches all of the nutrients from your teeth and gums, makes them yellow, yada yada.

and please don't look into chewing ice as an alternative. ice chewing is horrible for your teeth! talk about breaking your teeth or crown work (i know from personal experience! icon_sad.gif) My friend at work quit on chantix and we prescribe it to our pt's that are interested! She felt like CRAP for the first couple of weeks, but then even the smell of smoke from someone else made her nauseas (sp?).

Whichever way you choose to quit, goodluck! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
