I have both and use the FIM almost exclusively now. I just find them easier and faster.

Gorgeous cakes, SweetArt! The pearls look beautiful.
No offense to OP, I don't mean to hijack your post, but may I ask a few additional related questions?
SweetArt, when and how do you apply the pearl dust?
Also, I need lots of rows of these pearls for a wedding cake for my stepson that I will be making in a hotel room with a kitchen since the wedding is out of town. Do you think I can make these in advance and bring them with me or will they dry out and not bend around the round cakes?
Thanks!
I apply the pearl dust just after I pop them out of the mold. The dust sticks best to fresh paste.
As for how far in advance, I don't think I've ever made them more than 12 hours ahead. I'd do a trial run with them and seal them well between 2 layers of Press n Seal and let them sit for the amount of time needed, 1 or 2 days, and then open it up and play with them to see how they behave.
I'm not sure if it just my computer that doesn't show my first sentence in the previous post, but it should say: I apply the dust just after I pop them out of the mold. The dust sticks best to fresh paste.
I believe the pearl sizes are 8mm.
I apply it dry with this.
