These were in one of those knick knack type magazines you get but I thought they were pretty clever. The ice cream cone is actually the cake part.
Can any one figure out the swirl on top? I really like how they did that!

Grandma, I don't know what the tip number is. It is a huge star tip. There is a video on youtube where the lady uses that tip. It is not even a swirl. It is just a huge star with that tip and when you are squeezing, wiggle the hand instead of holding it still. Hope this helps, of course, I could be wrong, I am not expert in this decorating world.

Hi GrandmaG
The silicone ice cream cupcake pans are cheaper from this site.

Grandma, I got the giant tips at Mangelson's last month for 1.99 each, and they make the huge stars like that. They are in the aisle with the tips & fondant & vanilla & creme bouquet & that stuff.

The cupcakes made in the silicone ice cream cupcake pans are top heavy. The cake recipe that I used didn't work for them. They wanted to fall over and you have to make sure that the pan is completely level all the way around or they bake lopsided. I thought it looked level but a couple of the cones were a smidge uneven. Maybe pound cake would be best.

I got the pans as a gift, not sure if I will use the again or not.

Grandma, I couldn't find that video now. But when I went to a bakery supply store a year back, I did pick up lots of drop flower tips. One of them is huge version of 1M. Its number is 864 and it is not by wilton. It is by bakery craft. Maybe this will help you.

I've got cupcakes in the oven! Last minuet thing for a cinco de mayo get together (not really Mexican themed, though). I'm still kind of deciding on flavors. I've got chocolate cupcakes with a bit of coconut added in the oven, I'm probably going to frost with coconut IMBC. I'm thinking my other cupcake will be an almond pecan with maple icing. Can I just add maple lorann to frostin' pride? I don't have any maple syrup and I dont really want to add any EXTRA sugar. other than a bit of milk, what can I add to cut the chemicaly-ness?

Thanks Champa!
Jana, you can add the Maple LorAnn. Also there are some extracts that are Maple.

I'm making the strawberrry margarita cc's again for Cinco De Mayo.

You know Jana, I only add the tequila to the mix and I think the alcohol bakes off. I use flavorings for the filling and frosting, otherwise the alcohol thins them down too much.

lol. I'm not worried about people getting tipsy off of cupcakes, and I'm sure I could make them without alcohol anyway, it's more because it's an alcoholic flavor. Most just don't see that as family-friendly and I don't want to risk offending anyone over a cupcake. Silly, huh?

On the bright side, I decided to top the chocolate cuppies with chocolate malt bettercreme (ok, frostin' pride) and they are AWESOME. I even had a bag of malt balls to top them with. Tasty and cute icon_smile.gif
The almond pecan cupcakes turned out really nice. Just gotta ice them once their cool. I'll post pictures later icon_smile.gif

Happy Baking

No mother's day cuppies for me Fiddle. I'll probably be making a nice spring bunt, maybe lemon or almond.

I FINALLY got around to uploading pictures of the tri-vanilla cupcakes with strawberry filling I made a few weeks ago. I also posted about them on my blog with a little tutorial on how I do strawberry filling. I tried to attach it to this reply but the file is too large and I am just way too lazy to resize anything right now - but the pictures are on my blog.

what are you ladies bakin'?

Those look luscious Jana! What is your go to vanilla recipe? if I can ask?
I have to do 120 cupcakes for a graduation for Sat. and start on a big grad cake for next week end. I guess I'm cooking for Mother's Day and my DH wants me to make a cake to take to his daughter in Kansas Sat. so I'm not sure when I'll find the time to make a Mother's Day Cake. I've been dying to get out and cut some rhubarb in my garden so I guess I'll make a strawberry rhubarb pie. I know I'll think of a way to make it into a cupcake but not this week end!

Ohh, if you figure out a recipe for any kind of rhubarb cupcake LET ME KNOW! I will totally try it out, yum!

I use Serious_Cake's recipe for vanilla cake, as well as every other flavor on earth, lol.
I just uploaded my cuppy pics to CC icon_smile.gif

GrandmaG, your frosting always looks SO fluffy. Are you using a 1M tip? I especially love those bright citrus colors on the bright white frosting. They look awesome

Thanks Jana! I used Macsmom's buttercream recipe. I think I'll leave out the corn syrup next time though. A little too gooey with it. I use a 1M tip.
I want to do an almost pie like rhubarb cc. I've really been into making tart fillings in my cc's so maybe I'll make some kind of rhubarb cream filling. Maybe a strawberry rhubarb cc without making it muffin like. I think I'll make a juice from the fruit and use it for my liquid.
I'll let you know!

Oh, rhubarb pie cupcake sounds awesome? Hum...I'm gonna publicly brainstorm for a minuet.
graham cracker cake with lightly sweetened rhubarb mixture baked inside.
graham cracker crumbs on the bottom of the cupcake liners, topped with a lightly rhubarb-ed vanilla cake and filled with rhubarb
or rhubarb-strawberry. Never too much of a good thing icon_smile.gif

I looked at your blog. My baking list has your chai tea honey ginger cake on the top. I love chai and this will be perfect when I have company. Also, if I may add, you are very pretty. Your strawberry filling looks yummy too.
