Planning For The Next Cake Central Blackout
Decorating By Cakepro Updated 8 Apr 2008 , 2:54am by ksgirl
Okay guys, I've got a few days off and need some amazing cakes to look at while Cake Central experiences its next blackout.
Confectionary2 (that's her username) posted this link in another thread, which has left me speechless: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14559934@N04/ These amazing decorators have nearly 700 INCREDIBLE cakes to look at, which should take me awhile! LOL
I had posted this link for your viewing enjoyment, which was lost in the DB crash, so I'll repost it here: http://www.edibledesignsbyjessie.com/wedding.htm
Please post your bookmarked favorites here so I don't die of boredom when CC goes down again!
Also, does anyone else know of any cake discussion forums besides Lady Cakes and Baking 9 1 1?
Thanks!
Sherri
Sherri, thanks so much for posting this. I've been searching for good cake photos a lot lately with all the down time here. It's very frustrating and I really wish at this point that Heath and Jackie would consider making this a paid site to ensure there's revenue to cover the cost of the servers. (A friendly hint: I just paid $25 to Sarah Philips and I'm not all that gung-ho about her site. I'd be willing to pay about double that annually for this site if needed!) I hate going without my CC!!!
The only 'site' that I came up with that was really worth it, was one I've mentioned in a previous post and I believe it might be temporary. It's: http://www.brides.com/brides/cakes.
I know it's not much to offer, but that's what I've got so far. ![]()
WHOA - that website has some awesome pics!! Thank you, and bookmarked! ![]()
Sarah's site requires a paid membership now? ![]()
I'm not sure throwing money at this site is the solution....unless they were able to hire someone to keep the site up and running glitch-free in addition to more hardware upgrades.
I agree with grace. I would pay for a membership on here to make things run more smoothly. Unfortunatley my funds have been really tight. I can't even go out to eat anymore and I think twice about driving to my moms house. I checked out baking 911 and I really don't like it too much. It's nothing remotly close to cc. I usually go on youtube or flicker. Sometimes I just google cakes and take my sweet time looking at other cakes. I have run into some sites but I don't bookmark them because it just doesn't do it for me. Ladies and gentleman I am addicted to cake central. I have a problem and I am admitting it. That's the first step, right?
When my funds get a little better I am going to make a nice donation.
Sarah's site requires a paid membership now?
It's for Premium Membership - basically if you want to be able to view recipes, galleries, etc. While I'm not bashing her, it seems that she has some questionable practices - apparently anything that you post to her site becomes her property. That includes recipes and photos as well as tutorials. So I go there for reference, but it's nowhere near as good as this site! ![]()
If that site crashed it wouldn't be too much of a loss, but everytime I can't log onto CC I go bonkers.
JenniferMI led me to this site...........

I'm going crazy when Cake Central is down.
Sugar Buzz is an excellent board, much smaller and less active but in 2 years they have only been down once that I recall and that was only for a day. No drama or infighting there, Jenn would not allow it for a minute.
Many very talented decorators there, sharing and friendly as well.
There are several other cake forums available
rb designs
thatcakeplace
cakescanada
The Bakers Bar
Ladycakes place
Depends on what you are looking for. Many members here also belong to Flickr.
Thanks for posting this! I've been enjoying the wedding cakes at theknot.com
How I got this mailing list, I have no idea... Does anyone know anything about www.yummyarts.com?
Apparently it's a paid membership, though for the life of me I can't figure out how much...and they are only going to take just a few new members April 4.
the yummyarts site is $19.95/mo. I'm not a member, just followed the thread to check them out, and that info was on the member benefits page.
Looks pretty cool, but you can't see hardly anything without paying.
I love CC, hope they get everything worked out.
i need to start some kind of file with names and emails, so when we do have another blackout, i can still keep in touch with my cc buddies. i'm not sure i'd know how to get a hold of really anybody
I think the draw for people is that this website is free. I for one wouldn't be able to pay the membership as I am sure many others would agree also. I don't mind the time off as I know that when cc is offline it means that upgrades are being done and I appreciate the time they take to do it to make it a more effecient user friendly place to go.
If you have a myspace acct, stepOnmi started a great blog for CC friends. It's been very helpful to have a place to go to find CC peeps . I didn't have a myspace acct, but I joined just to be part of the group. http://groups.myspace.com/cakecentralfriends

Found it yesterday while wondering what to do with myself without CC ![]()

OMG that web site is so classy. and if that's their waiting room I would be intimidated into dropping big cash there. lol
I'd like to go ahead and plug the Sugarbuzz site again because I have been a member for a while and there are some really great members there who are eager to share their knowledge.
It may be smaller than CC but the quality and talent is unbelieveable and again, the people are great!!

LOL!!! I can relate...just when I think I'm doing decent! Sheesh!
I am so glad this thread was started...I too, like many others, have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to do without CC!!! Not good...just not good...
There's no place like CC! Have to give major props and thanks to Heath and Jackie for this amazing site! It's obvious we cannot function without it!
Join us over at the forums at www.intotheoven.com!
Perhaps it's just me but I have two things that I wonder about:
1. Is it necessary to have so much of a watermark on your photos that you can't even see the freakin' cake? I mean, I just saw some of the pics from one of the websites and the cakes look beautiful! However, there a few that I can hardly make for all the watermarks on them.
2. Is it possible to overdo the pearl/luster dust? Again, these cakes are obviously georgeous but I think some of them are overly lustery/pearly (if those are real words). ![]()
Maybe it's just a result of the bad day I had. ![]()
