Welcome Darby...

Michelle - I don't think I'm amazing by all means I just have no choice. If I didn't do anything b/c I had a headache I would have been in bed WAY to long by now. I have to keep moving no option there.

Good Challenge Susan I HAVE to eat breakfast or I'm starving WAY to early... I NORMALLY have 1 egg over easy and 2 slices of toast w/ small amount of butter on them and a glass of OJ for breakfast lately I've been lazy and have been doing cereal (frosted mini wheats). But the egg/toast breakfast keeps me full longer than the cereal does and I don't feel as bloated either.

Shellie I hope your dh can fix your scanner I hate it when computer stuff messes up b/c I can never fix them...

GOOD LUCK to everyone this weekend. Dh and I have a wedding to go to tomorrow night for some guy he works with and the kids are going to spend the night at my parents house since it's a late wedding. SO WAHOO for some time w/ my dh (haven't seen him all week literally)

Welcome Darby! It sounds like you've got your diet figured out pretty well, but you must eat breakfast to get your metabolism working for the day!

Connie, have a great time tomorrow night - you deserve a fun night out!

I am walking over to the store to pick up my fruit and OJ and start whipping those out in the mornings. I also need to cut back on my 2 16 oz cups of coffee with the 29 tbsp of sweet cream creamer... aaacckkk. That my friends, is a killer. Its like "may I have some coffee with my mug o' creamer?"

Lunch needs to be a healthy option for me too, and not just rying to find the least crappy item on the burger king menu...lol. I need to fix it at home and eat sensible meals. So that is on my shopping list for the week too.

My metabolism is shot, so yes, I am hoping between the walking and the smoothies, I can control that again.

Welcome Darby! This is the perfect place for you. So much support and coming here even if you're not trying (like me) keeps you motivated.

Karen glad to hear your dh surgery went good and he's not feeling too bad. Hopefully it's over now!

Connie that totally sucks you're still having headaches but the thing I'm not sure how you do it is manage all week without your dh. I would go crazy.

Susan I agree with everyone else. It's time to change up your diet (and not by giving up and eating crap =D ). A low carb diet is always helpful for short term.

Michelle glad your toe is healing good! Don't worry 3 weeks will fly by and you'll be able to exercise your heart out!

Shellie that sucks about your scanner. I hate computer problems.

Merissa I sent my son to school on the bus for the first time today. It is so much more easier than driving. I don't have 3 to cart around though. I can see why you love the bus.

Oh and I am dancing about the house now that both my kids are in school! I have 3 weeks of both of them in school before I start watching my niece and nephew 2 days a week.

Now that we've got our morning routine down I'm going to try to start getting up early to exercise. That is the only time I can get it done. Once I start my day I tell myself I'm too busy to exercise....dishes, laundry, bathrooms, mopping all the fun stuff!

I do eat breakfast usually 2 pieces of bacon and a yougurt...sometimes with an egg or sometimes a high fiber cereal.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Casey - dh not being around is actually pretty normal. He's in architecture so he works long crazy hours and well he has 2 jobs both doing the same thing, but I have gotten spoiled to him at least being home to work for his second job. So this week was harder on my b/c I got used to him being here, he's not available but he's here. kwim.

I love to walk. Hated it for a while, but now it is such a pick me up for the rest of the day. I wake up at 6 am to walk and then I am back to get my DD butt in gear and get her out the door by 7:45, wake up my 4 yr old and get him ready for preschool, and we all are out of the house and in our places by 9.

I am going to start, when I can fit it in, walking at night after dinner. My DS can hop on his bike and ride along. My DD is a swimmer on our city swim team, so excersise is not an issue for her. Lucky... lol.

Dinner... Ooo boy, we are BIG meat eaters. Love to grill, Steaks and ribs, and more steaks. I guess everything is ok in moderation. I try to use the most natural ingred. and seasonings. It comes down to sides. We always have a veggie, its the baked or mashed potato, the mac and cheese or pasta and or the rice that gets us. I need to impliment more greens and salads and if we need a rice, brown long grain wild.

Mmm... now I am hungry,.,, hahahaha

Welcome Darby!! Always glad to have new friends!

Susan, I totally know what you mean about the diet stall. I went for 2 months working out every day, low fat/low sugar yogurt for breakfast, no lunch (not good, I know) and a fairly light dinner, and lost NOTHING. I was about ready to give up, but I changed up my diet (did the Tae Bo low carb thing) and immediately started dropping lbs.

Casey, if you find a good way to get up early and exercise, please give me your secret!!! It's the best time for me to do it, but I can't drag my butt out of bed and I usually end up trying to squeeze it in between dinner, helping with homework and bedtime for the kids. Since school started, it's getting much harder to find time. It's much easier to get it done while everyone else is in bed, then I feel good all day. I just can't convince myself of that at 6 am.

As for breakfast, I eat breakfast every day. 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese with 1/3 cup blueberries. It's a little monotonous, but it's easy to take to work and it's filling.

I'm attaching the diet for any who care to join me. I'm starting on Monday, I need the weekend to get groceries and prep everything. A couple of notes about it...looking at the diet, it looks expensive. Things are kinda tight here and food prices are up everywhere, so when I did it, I left out some of the more expensive items (shrimp, avocado, steak, etc. in my area) and subbed chicken for protein. My grocery bill for the diet week was actually a little less than normal. Also, I manage to slightly alter the meals to suit the rest of my family, who either have no desire or no need to diet. For example, the night I ate grilled chicken and broccoli, I fixed stir fry chicken & broccoli with rice for DH and kids. It worked out really well because I didn't have to make a whole separate meal every night. Also, it's kind of strange because you're eating ALL THE TIME, but it's important because you never actually get hungry, so you're less likely to be tempted by the 'goodies'.

I am sorry my posts are all SO LONG....I can't seem to shut up lately!! icon_lol.gif

I think the biggest key for me to work out in the morning is doing it with a friend. I know that wont work for everyone, but if you can, it really works. I carpool with a friend so I feel like she is counting on me. Or set up morning walks/jogs if you don't belong to a gym.

I really feel like I have got the exercise under control. I have been doing it consistenty since January, but I just need to get the eating under control. so far so good this week. We do have a block party in the neighborhood tonight. i am giving myself a bit of a free pass to enjoy the food, however, I don't want go overboard and ruin all that I accomplished this week.

I hope I have enough discipline to follow that. I don't mind the healthy eating but do you feel like you're always preparing. I hat preparing alot of stuff, one reason why I make easy stuff like canned corn instead of fresh veggies.

Morning work outs. I did it for a week but what I do is talk to myself before bed, telling myself that I will get up, I'll feel good if I get up and exercise and I'll be dissapointed and feel worse about myself if I don't.
I get all my stuff ready the night before, clothes, shoes, water whatever I need to work out.
Then when my alarm goes off I get up right away, no snooze, no laying there thinking about how I don't want to get up.
And the thought that working out raises your metabolism for the day and resets itself when you go to sleep so working out in the morning is more beneficial.

Wow, Shellie, thank you for that. Well, I'm on my new laptop, of course I couldn't go one week without one! I'll print it out at work tomorrow (don't have a printer) and probably start it on Wednesday because the on-post grocery store is closed on Mondays and tomorrow's also an Italian holiday, so the grocery stores will all be closed. I'll go shopping Tuesday and start Wednesday.

Allegedly, reportedly, supposedly...the gym is scheduled to open Wednesday, but really, who knows? "Reopen" is probably not a fair term, it's been open, but in February they started reconstruction and it's been hell ever since. No bathrooms, porta potties (I don't THINK SO) and they moved all the workout equipment into the racquetball court, which meant that it was incredibly hot because there's not air moving around and because the court is so small, the machines were within inches of one another and I didn't like working out right next to my patients. So I hope to get a start this week soon, I was doing best when I was working out before work. If nothing else, I think I'm going to start walking before work in the mornings. It's just so muggy here! I can't believe how groce it was today, I'm just waiting for the weather to turn.

There is a lot of prep work, Casey. But what I do is in the evenings after dinner, but before I clean up my kitchen, I prep my breakfast and lunch for the next day so I can just grab everything in the morning and take it to work, then I only have to clean up once. It's kind of a pain, but I tell myself I can endure anything for only 8 days.
Thanks for the tips on morning workouts. I need to have a serious talk with myself tonight. I haven't worked out in 2 weeks and I'm just not going to have time this week in the evenings. Time for NO MORE EXCUSES to myself. I will feel better physically and emotionally if I stop putting it off.
Oh my goodness, Susan...porta potties at the gym?!! Yikes!!
Well ladies let's gear up for a brand new week! Football season starts today, which means junk "football" food in the house every Sunday, but I shall be strong!! (after the brats for dinner tonight, I mean...)

btw Shellie - Thanks for writing all that out, must have taken awhile.

I told myself too 'It's only 8 days, you can do it'. I just need to get to the grocery store. Don't know if I'll make it today but probably tomorrow.

I definitely need to talk to myself tonight. Tomorrow should be my first day of getting up early. I think I should get up at 5:30 so I can get a cardio and a yoga or pilates and still have time to shower before getting the kids up and ready for school. If I only do cardio I can get up at 6 and be good. I'm thinking I might do cardio one morning and yoga the next and pilates at night so I don't have to get up quite so early.....we'll see I feel at this point I should get cardio in everyday.

Susan I can't stand muggy weather...hope it gets better soon. I totally wouldn't go to the gym either, conditions there sound yucky. Hope you can get those morning walks in!

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!!!!

Sonia, I can't do the plan until I go grocery shopping tomorrow, but it's 2:25 in the afternoon here and so far, so good. I've eaten low carb, high protein all day and I'm not hungry at all. I had a very healthy size portion of low fat cottage cheese (454 gms!) for breakfast and avocado, chicken and a tomato for lunch. I'm not sure yet what I'll eat for dinner, I'll rustle up something in the low carb area. Maybe you need more protein?

I am trying to ignore the work here. I need to get my stuff together because I am taking Wednesday and Thursday off. Other secretary is off today. I just want to leave all of these hearing notices for her to do, not to mention the dictation that is coming down now.

Welcome, Darby! I am proof that you need to eat to keep your metabolism going. You probably have yourself in starvation mode right now.

Susan, I had breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday, but not within the recommended time frame, and forget today at all.

wow shellie thanks for typing all of that out that must have taken forever!
Good Luck to all of you ladies trying it out also that looks like alot of prep work!

GOOD LUCK on Moving Karen

I hope everyone had a great weekend I had a pretty good one. Saturday dh competed in our local CANstruction and his team WON first place AND people's Choice! I was so proud! Then we had a wedding to go to that even so it was nice to get 1 (better than none) dance w/ dh. Sunday am dh took me to Cheesecake factory for Brunch (was my breakfast and lunch) it was so weird eating w/o kids (they were still at my parents) but it was my bday present from dh since cheesecake factory is so expensive (and I'm cheap LOL)... Tomorrow is my bday and it looks like Mother Nature is giving me a present we are supposed to get a "cold front" so tomorrow's HIGH should only be in the lower 80's I'm SO excited!
Tomorrow my aunt is taking me for lunch to a mexican restuarant and I know I will be bad so trying to be REALLY good today and will for the rest of the week just not tomorrow! LOL...

I have been doing pretty good I am up to 200 crunches a day and OMG ouch they hurt. I do them in 50 installments. DO 50 then to the floor for other ab exercises then 50 more crunches. I don't see how some ppl can do them straight thru.

Here is a link to the "award winning" canstruction - sorry I'm just proud!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/redhare05/IMG_0056.jpg

and here is one w/ my dh working on them....

he's the one sitting in the white tshirt.
If you don't know anything about CANstruction - it's 29 artitecture firms all compete building items out of cans and other packaged food items. Then all of the food and other proceeds gets donated to the N. TX Food Bank. Since dh's firm/team won (dh was team captain) they will go to the Nationals to compete it's pretty cool really.

Did I tell you all that I booked tickets for DH and I to go to FL for a long weekend next month?!? I am very excited, I got free airline tickets with our credit card miles and a free car rental (also with points). We also have a free place to stay (Mom and dad own a condo in Ft. Myers). The grandparents are babysitting, too! I just need to figure out how to get free food...LOL! So the hard part is losing some weight before we go. So hard.

Connie, Happy Happy Birthday! I hope you DO get your cold front! And I'll jump on Merissa's bandwagon: Cangratulations to your DH! Those big shoes are very impressive! Wow...one finger and...well, I don't want to think about it!

Sonia, I didn't feel cranky yesterday (and today's still young!), so I'm not sure. I don't have my numbers in front of me, but I had a high amount of protein and a very low amount of carbs and I felt good and not hungry, same for today. I was down 2 pounds this morning...I can't yet say "lost" 2 pounds, time will tell, but I'm at least encouraged. It's still within my 3 pound bouncing around range so I won't change my ticker yet.

Shelly, question. Is this a pretty set in stone approach, or can you mix it up a little. Like Breakfast day1, lunch day, 2 etc. I am still losing inches. Havn't broke down to buy a new scale yet, but would like to go faster. Thought this might be a great jump re-start.
