They dont have air conditioning in their homes in Euope? I've never heard that. No wonder their energy consumption is much lower. But 11,000 deaths is not a number I'd ignore. I'm here in a very southern part of Ontario, Canada it gets pretty hot here too about 95 F it doesn't often go above that. In the summer we usually hover around 80 - 85.
I have another busy week ahead!
Hi everyone! Just thought I'd check in. Nothing really exciting to talk about today........
I ate too much cake over the weekend ![]()
I might take a little break from the exercise for a couple days. I ran yesterday and my heel was hurting. I thought I'd do a mile today but once I started running it really started hurting. I think I could have done it but since my BIG RACE is on Saturday I think it might be best to rest it a couple of days. It might be nice to sleep in a couple of days....I GUESS I could still work out and do some weights or the bike or something......My gym buddy is out of town though, makes it a little more difficult to motivate myself.
Most homes in Italy don't have air conditioning, I can't so much speak to the rest of Europe...some do, particularly after the 2003 summer, but the majority do not. And I've never, ever seen central air, just a version of we would call a window unit, which is usually placed high on the wall near the ceiling. I grew up in Texas and Louisiana, so that's why I nearly die here! I love a/c! And many cars do not have it! I'd die! But it's the American way of life, we're used to our comforts. I have 2 floor fans in my bedroom, one on either side of the bed and am keeping my fingers crossed for a relatively cool and quick summer!
Merissa, I hope your foot feels better soon. Have you considered seeing a podiatrist just so you can have an idea of what it is and how to avoid it?
I love my AC! I grew up without it and my last house, we didnt really use it becasue it didn't work well. But I try not to use it, just because it is really expensive. I like it to take the edge off the humidity.
I think my foot will be fine. It is fine pretty much to walk on it and stuff. I am pretty sure I have tendonitis in my achilles tendon. I think it just need to rest it.
OK, now I don't want anyone to be shocked, I hope you can take this...I lost A POUND! I still say, better than the alternative!
I'm a bit tired this morning because my electricity went out about midnight during a huge thunderstorm. I woke up because my fan was off and just drifted back to sleep thinking, "Oh I need to get up and find my battery operated alarm clock." Woke up again about 2:30AM, still no electricity. So I got up to find a flashlight (of course I immediately tried to turn on a light to do that!), found a candle, found and set the alarm. And then I started thinking..."Hmmm, you do live where you live" (meaning I should know this lesson already). So I looked outside and sure enough, some of the neighbors had their outside lights on. Crap. That means I have to put something decent on and go down to the basement of my building and see if the circuit breaker tripped...sure enough it had, so I got power back at 2:30 but this morning I'm tired from the middle of the night jaunt!
a pound is a pound, girl! Yay! I think you are the only one of us (so far) to lose anything significant. I think the rest of us keep bouncing around! Good for you! Always remember that YOU are my inspiration (so you aren't allowed to give up. We are counting on you to keep us going!) Not like there is any pressure....LOL
WAHOOOOo a pound is a pound and that's great you are consistantly improving you should be proud!
UGH sorry about your circuit tripping though that sucks.
Well, I haven't gotten ANY exercising done b/ I have this HORRIBLE headache for like 4 days now. I can NOT get rid of it I have tried everything I swear OMG it is killing me!
Today's challenge everyone should be able to do. I want you to look at yourself in the mirror and say "I am doing a great job, I may fall on occasion but I always get back up. I can and I AM doing this, the road may not be easy or even fun but I deserve an improved me not a new me or even a better me just an improvement of myself. I am doing great and I can do this"....
I think positive motivation helps so much ~ so often we get down and it just starts a spiral so lets keep ourselves up!
Good Morning everyone
Sorry I have been missing. DBF has been sick these past few days and it seems that he may have West Nile Fever. It is a mild form so no hospital, but still very scary. He has had a fever of 103.8 (the highest), chills, achey, headache.....He finally felt better yesterday, but then the fever jumped back up to 102 last night. I came to work for 1/2 day just to make sure there wasnt anything important that needed to be done. I will check in again as soon as everything is back to normal.
MIchelle
oh wow, sorry to hear about your DBF! That sounds awful! Is there a way to detect the virus for sure? It would be good to know so they can add it to the satistics and whatnot. That is contracted by mosquitos right? I hope he feels better soon.
My son got lyme disease several years ago. I took him to the doctor and the first one said "there is no lyme disease in michigan!" My mom about had a fit and we took him to a specialist. They did some tests that came back positive, however there is no test that can tell you for sure (there are often false positives) but he had the symptoms and the characteristic bulls-eye rash on his skin. We were lucky to have caught it so early and all it took was A LOT of antibiotics.
Michelle sorry to hear about your dbf. Hope he's feeling back to normal soon. I would go to the dr. just because.
Susan a pound is a pound and it is more than I have lost. You are doing so great, don't be discouraged by the whole one pound at time thing. Think of what all those 1 lbs add up to!
Merissa how's your foot doing? I hope you're resting it.
I like your challenge, I too believe in positive thinking....I just don't practice it.
So I've been I don't know. I mowed for 4 hrs on sat AND sun, went for an 8 mile bike ride on mon. and a 6 mile bike ride yesterday. Ate pizza on fri, mcdonalds on sun and an ice cream cone everyday. What is wrong with me.....it's one or the other but I can never do both at the same time.
Yikes, Michelle, is your DBF better? That's scary, I hope he feels well soon.
Merissa, thank you for your kind words...I'm just going to keep plugging away, I figure if nothing else, by the end of a year I will have lost 52 pounds and I'd certainly rather have that than gaining.
Casey, you and I need combine our personality and traits. I get almost no exercise anymore! But my eating is solid. I ordered a pedometer and received it Tuesday in the mail...guess I need to take it out of the package and off the kitchen table for it to work though...
Connie, thank you for cheerleading this week, you've done a great job. I love your enthusiasm! Is your headache better?
I'm going to what's known as Organizational Day today, which means the clinic is closed and having a picnic/barbeque for all employees. I made an oil free tomato salad to contribute, which I tasted and is pretty good. You just cut cherry tomatoes in half and add chopped garlic, fresh chopped basil, fresh chopped cilantro, a bit of red pepper, salt, and fresh ground black pepper to taste and voila! You make it the night before so that all the juices from the tomatoes marinate everything and it's delicious and very low calorie, practically fat free. You're supposed to add tiny chopped yellow tomatoes for color, but I couldn't find any. So that, and hummus will be my lunch.
Good morning all!
Hope your BF is better, Michelle. How's the foot, Merissa?
Susan, you are doing great. I have kind of backslid myself and am back on the other side of square one.
I forgot to weigh in this morning. Hubby and I had to pour off our soap this morning. He got me up 15 minutes early. I tied my tomato up to the stakes and the rose bush that is growing on the fence I tied dow some of the branches. I still have a couple that need to be pruned but I didn't have time for that this morning.
Well, according to the new cheerleader list, I am the cheerleader this week. Since I have no internet at home and will not be near a computer tomorrow, I will give a two-day challenge.
For the next two days, I want you to take a look at yourself and renew your goals. Dust off the journals that we made in January and re aquaint yourselves with your goals and re implement your plans.
Thought for the day:
Yesterdayâs gone. If you know you ate too much yesterday, try to learn from it rather than feeling bad about it. Try to recall if you were truly hungry or if something else started your appetite. Were you upset, bored or stressed? Keep these triggers for eating in mind for the future. Today is a new day! Plan healthy meals and snacks for the entire day and stick to it.
Have a great day all! I'll check in later with a Saturday challenge "just in case."
Well, I wasn't going to post, because I'm feeling so down, but decided I will. There are many reasons. We have really battled financially for the last 12 months, and today our phones were cut off! (We received a final notice last week, but somehow it got swept under some other things, unopened, and we had no idea they were going to cut them off today!) Secondly, I bought my son a pet rat for his birthday 3 weeks ago (Yes, a rat ..... they are actually very clean pets!) and we have just found out it has a respiratory disease which will kill it very soon, and we have all become attached to it. And thirdly, my husband has had a CT scan on his bad back, and found out today that he most likely needs surgery. We are being referred to a neurosurgeon in a couple of weeks. He has bulging discs, which are hitting against the sciatic nerve. It is due to lots of heavy lifting, etc, and his vertebrae are collapsing. I guess on top of all that I'm feeling stressed with 2 cakes to do this evening, and another son having a birthday on Saturday, so I have lots to prepare for that. I know it will come together in the end. Sorry to rant to you all, but I can't ring my Mum and cry on her shoulder, because I have no phone! Now confession time: when I'm feeling down, I eat....so today I've had terrible day and I haven't weighed in!
Connie, thank you for cheerleading this week, you've done a great job. I love your enthusiasm! Is your headache better?
Ahhhh thanks I appreciate it, but to answer your question no my headache isn't better ~ sigh I am SO ready for a day of relief...
Sonia ~ wow I am SO sorry that everything is being piled on you at once. I know financial issues all to well as I'm sure lots of people do then adding medical issues on top of that just makes it harder. I know today is hard, but you will get thru this I promise! BIG BIG HUGS to you!!!!!!
Hey Sonia! Thinking of you. So sorry that all this is piling up on you at once. We are here to listen, anytime! If there is anything we can do, just let us know.
Connie-maybe you need to see the doc about your headache? Seems unually long! Do you have allergies maybe? Or maybe a sinus infection?
My foot is feeling pretty good now, thanks all for asking. I am sure it will probably hurt when I run on it, but I think resting it up a few days will definitely help. After this is over, I might switch to something a little less hard on my feet for awhile.
Connie-maybe you need to see the doc about your headache? Seems unually long! Do you have allergies maybe? Or maybe a sinus infection?
.
yes I do have allergies but right now I am symptom free (w/ the exception of the headaches) I have a little congestion but nothing to write home about, normally my eyes are what tell me it's getting bad. If by the weekend I'm not better I might have to call the doc. Ugh I never go to the doctor ever! LOL in fact I think the last time I went was for allergies several years ago HAHAHAHA...
Thanks for making me think of that I hadn't thought about it since I really don't have many symptoms.
OK on a lighter note I have to share b/c well I'm a dork!!!!
11 years ago tonight is when dh first asked me to be his girlfriend hehehe even after 7 years of marriage he said to me happy "old" anniversary this am and every time I talk to him on the phone. I know we are dorks but I think it's cute
GEEEEZZZZZ I sometimes hate lap tops. I bought a wireless mouse, but even though it is set up to work the pad is still working, I just typed a whole response and somehow hit the pad and it went back and I lost it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you all for your wished for DBF, he is feeling much better and is going to try to go to work tomorrow.
Susan great job on the loss, I love your thought of how after one year you will have lost 52 pounds!!!
Karen thank you for the challenges, I will do that tomorrow.
Sonia so sorry for your issues. Do come here if you need to talk, we are here to help each other in good and bad times, and not just weight issues!
Merissa, glad to hear you food is feeling better, as one with heel spurs I know how bad it can be when your foot hurts. Good luck on your race. I am confident you will do well!
Connie, how sweet is your dh!
Well guys I forgot to weigh in because dbf's mom had cateract surgery and I went with so I was out of the house by 4:15 this morning. Then I was battling little gnat like things that have infested our back yard and are getting into the bedroom thru the window somehow. They dont bite or anything just very annoying and make me buggy.
Well I got the call from my Dr on Monday. I went in about a week ago for my next blood draw for my diabetes. My A1C number was 7.0 and under 6 is normal. He decided it was time to put me on meds. I am now taking Metformin. God how I wanted to stay off of them. Oh well, nothing I can do now. The good news is that they are not supposed to make me gain weight, which is good because I told them if I did I would not take them. It is hard enough without a drug that makes you gain!!! The other good news is that these are a type that if I loose weight and get my numbers under control I could possibly get off of them again.
Oh I have a me day tomorrow. Took the day off to get a hot stone massage, mani, pedi and put my acrylic nails on again. Yea me I have been trying to get this set up since Christmas when I got my gift certificates. Will try to post tomorrow, I also have to do homework and write a paper by Monday. I am in the last week of my first class, but my second class starts on Tuesday, so no rest!!!
Sonia, I am so very sorry to hear about your stresses. Please share them here because I think the more you "give" them away (to us), the better you'll feel, plus you can get support. I'm sending you a big hug to your side of the world!
Michelle, I'm sorry to hear about your meds...is this something that will change if you start to feel differently? If you reach some of your health goals, can you possibly come off the meds?
Merissa, good luck to you in the run tomorrow! I'm extremely impressed! I can barely run to anything, I can't wait to hear how it was.
Connie, I hope your headache gets better soon and many congrats on your "old" anniversary!
Karen, are you permanently without internet? That would be a real challenge for me.
I've been really tired lately. I've been working long hours and felt quite a bit of stress from work. Fortunately, the post where I work has almost 2000 soldiers coming back after 15 months in Afghanistan. Can you imagine being gone for 15 months? Their joyous return means that my office really amps things up, we have to interview them all for mental health needs and it just makes for really long hours plus weekend work until everyone is back. So yesterday we got to go home early, at 2:00, which was great. I was exhausted. I laid down to take a nap and slept til 5:00 this morning! Except to get up and go to the bathroom. I knew what I was doing, but I couldn't drag myself out of bed. But today I'm paying for it. My back is killing me, I just slept too long! No more 15 hour naps!!
Sounds like you needed that "nap", susan!
I think your "old" anniversary is cute, connie! I doubt my DH would remember stuff like that. wait do I even remember? LOL!
I forgot to tell you all my weigh in yesterday. 154...sigh. I just keep bouncing around this 5 pounds. But it's not like I have made a real effort lately.
Thanks for all the well wishes for my race tomorrow! I am excited about it. everyone who has done them tells me they are fun. Hey, i get a t-shirt out of it! yipee! So my goals are: 1. finish without walking 2. finish under 30 minutes (I might be pushing it with this goal!) 3. Do my best! I'll report over the weekend on how I do!
I heard this quote the other day. I keep running it through my head.
"Do the thing you think you cannot do." Elenor Roosevelt
Susan, I have heard that this type of pill you can get off of if I can get this weight off. I guess I brought it on myself, but it is so hard to loose. I know where my down fall is and that would be dinner. I have to change that and keep everything else the same I should be able to loose.
Merissa, Good luck! I love that quote I will have to post that one every where
Sonia, I pray for you and your DH to get through this hard time
Michelle, good luck with the new medication. I hope DBF will be better soon.
Merissa, Hey good luck on your run, take care of that foot
Connie, I hope you feel better and yes your DH is sweet
Karen, will you come and take care of my plants
Susan, by the looks of things you've done a tremendous job
Sorry I've been missing but I'm so incredibly busy. I've hardly had 2 seconds to myself. In one way I hope I stay this busy but in another... I need to figure a way to do all this in less time. I'm having to tell customers sorry I have no time to help you. I've had some extremely large orders as well. My DH has been wonderful staying up late helping and getting up early to do dishes. He even made 100+ little pink fondant flowers the other day!! My 10 year old son has even been helping by putting tags on ribbons and hlping with packaging cookies etc.
Good news somehow in all this I managed to loose 3 pounds!
I haven't been paying attention or following the diet at all. I've just been staying away from the cake especially the frosting!!
I weighed myself this morning expecting to see a gain!
Have a great week!!!
Sonia I woke up at 3:45 w/ you on my mind so I want you to know that I am thinking of you and feel free to vent away I really hope that letting it off your chest helped some.
Merissa GOOD LUCK tomorrow! I can't run a block let alone a race/marathon! I hope you meet all your goals and your foot doesn't give you too many issues. What a great quote you found!
Susan I would have taken a 15 hour 'nap' also man oh man, but I have to say THANK YOU being on the family side of that welcome home I know how important it is for the soldiers to have what you do when they finally are home.
Michelle I hope the meds work for you and you are able to stop taking it once things are under control.
Oh and for those that asked, yes I still have my headache it didn't start out as strong first thing this am but it's there now but at least I had a lil break....
I hope everyone has a great weekend, I will be we are having a family reunion tomorrow IF everyone shows up it will be 91 people (and this is ONLY my grandma's side of the family can't imagine if it was the entire family)
Oh I forgot to mention that my little sister had her baby. Little Sara she was born 2 weeks early and was very tiny 5lbs 2 oz but she is already putting on weight. Turns out there was a deformation of the placenta and it would not release during delivery Yikes!! The doctor's say it probably wasn't feeding the baby properly. Other than she is small she looks good!
Wow, it's been busy here! I forgot to weigh in before I ate...again, but again I'm sure it's all the same.
Sonia sorry to hear of all the issues you are having. Definitely come here when you need to vent, that is what we are here for and venting feels so good.
Merissa good luck in your race tomorrow. Even if you can't meet all your goals we are all very proud of you. Don't push yourself to hard and hurt your foot even more.
Connie that sweet about your old anniversary. My dh and I celebrate ours too, more than we do our wedding.
Michelle sorry to hear you had to go on meds. At least your keeping a positive attitude and there is the possibility you can go off! Your me day sounds wonderful...I'm so jealous, I need a pedi so bad!
Lori congrats on being an aunt! She sounds so small, 1/2 the size of my second baby.
Susan sounds like you've been super busy and are not slowing down, I'd take a 15 hour nap too!
I'm going shopping today, blah. I need a dress for a wedding I'm going to. I hate dress shopping!
Thanks for your concern, everybody! Our phone is now back on. Hubby is hoping we may find an alternative to surgery. We will wait to hear what the neurosurgeon has to say!
Today is my eldest son's birthday. He is 9. WOW, it's hard to believe I don't have babies anymore! We are going for a BBQ lunch at a park, with all my family (there are 20 kids just on my side of the family!!) and a couple of his school friends. It's a nice sunny day, thankfully (middle of winter here)
Lori, it sounds like your business is really taking off! That's great news! Don't wear yourself out, though! I looked at my diary last night and realised I have 5 cake orders for next week....that's a record for me!
All the best with your run today, Merissa...you're certainly braver than me!
Congrats on your new niece, Lori! And your booming business! I hope when I get mine started I have some orders....LOL!
Good news about your phone, Sonia! Wish your son Happy Birthday from all of us in the club!
Well I am off to my race in about 1/2 hour. I couldnt sleep! I feel like I am back in high school...all nervous and stuff! (I didn't run, I swam. Not a lot of swim teams for old ladies LOL! )
I've had these funny dreams this week about the race. Last night was the kind where for some reason I couldnt move. I was like grabbing onto things trying to go and I just couldnt figure out why I had to drag my legs.
Then earlier in the week I had a dream that an old lady with a cane kept passing me in the race, no matter how fast I was going. Then I hopped onto the bike, going down hill and she STILL was going faster by foot. LOL!
Wish me luck! ![]()
