I just finished my first ever batch of MMF and I don't think I did it correctly.
After melting the MM I poured it out onto my greased surface then added what I thought was about 3/4 and started mixing the sticky mass. As I mixed I recalled the recipe was for 2lb. I had 3/4 of 1 pound so I had hubby add more PS.
Long story short I used all 2 lbs and additional water and the mass doesn't stretch when I pull it. It breaks off almost like play dough. It's not sticky. May be it's too dry? No stretch no elasticity.
It's coated, wrapped and chilling right now in the fridge. I'm going to bed and tackling the problem at lunch time. I have my first class of Course III tomorrow night and wanted to take this with me.
Is there any hope of salvaging this? ![]()
Crisco is my life saver when making MMF. I actually add about 2 T. to the MM and water before microwaving it. (I also use the alternate method on here). I pour the powdered sugar into the bowl in small increments and stir. I also never pour in the entire bag. Maybe 3/4? When you can touch it without it feeling too sticky, stop adding powdered sugar and don't force it to take anymore than it wants.
Use lots of Crisco and just knead it awhile with your hands. Take small amounts so it's not so overwhelming.
Here's a good post that helps a million with making it, too.
