My BF asked me to make daughter's b-day cake for Friday night. I told her I wouldn't be able to since I work during the day and have finals every night. But I started thinking if I knew of a good premade icing I could cut down on a lot of the time...but I don't know of one.
So I did some research, and these are some of the brands I saw noted.
1) Brill's BC - local bakery uses - but can't find where or how to order online or local store
2) Rich's Bettercream for whipped - same bakery uses - and I found I can order from Sugarcraft
3) Country Kitchen BC - never tried it - but delivery charges are usually high
4) Dawn - not sure if BC or whipped recommended - found a local store in DFW that carries
5) Bakemark - not sure if BC or whipped recommended - found a local store in DFW that carries
6) Sam's Club - not sure if BC or whipped recommended - and I have tried to contact to see if it is in stock
My questions are...which tastes the best? most like homemade? colors best? consistency? spreadability? decorating-ability? price?
Do you need to add flavoring?
As always, thanks for all your help.
I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but from what I've read on this site, many members seem to agree that Sam's Club's icing is very good. Hopefully someone else will be able to give you better information or elaborate a bit. Good luck.
You can buy icing from Sams??? Is it in the aisle or do you have to get that from the bakery?
Kim
At Sam's you can purchase their buttercream...which I hear is as good as most store buttercream (I think it's nasty)...OR their whipped icing which is the Rich's Bettercreme that you mentioned ordering from Sugarcraft (HIGH shipping). Other threads say the Rich's Bettercreme from Sam's: 1. is great 2. must call ahead to make sure they will sell you some (direct to the Sam's bakery 3. They'll probably sell you a giant 5 gal. bucket of the stuff pre-whipped for around $22--but it will last for a year frozen and can be divvied up into smaller containers. Good Luck!
