getting those corners crisp are hard..havent mastered it yet..anyway

i really like the looks of putting the square cakes diagonally on the table instead of facing straight on.

Is there a *rule* as to when a cake should be placed this way>

I am doing a white cake with black fondant stripes and a few calla lillies on the corners.

No rules. It is just a part of the design.

I do lots of square cakes .... luv 'em!!

You absolutely have to give indydebi's method for doing corners a try! I've fought the corners on square and sheet cakes for years and just that one little tip about pushing the icing past the corner, then "folding" it around the corner made doing them a breeze! To think of all the hours I spent doing and re-doing the corners!!
