Hi there! We'll be going to Australia in a couple of days to visit my husband's grandparents. I wanted to know how easy it is to get decorating products like Crisco and piping gel. Will I have to carry them with me from the States?

Thank you!

I suppose it depends on where you're going in Australia as to how easy it is to obtain the items you want as particularly Crisco is not easily available.
Hope you enjoy your holiday here

Hi - Crisco is just called something different in these parts. Vegetable shortening is still a readily available product, just not 'Crisco' brand.
I'm in NZ so don't know about the availability of piping gel where you are heading.

I don't know where you are visiting in Australia but crisco or any kind of vegetable shortening is not as easy to find here as it is in the states. I am a texan living in Australia. I live in north queensland...not in a capital city and I can not get any type of vegetable shortening here. I have to order it online or just use butter. Piping gel I generally just make...as I don't use it often. Just thought I would let you know.

It depends on how long you are going to be here, there is a USA online store, (I think it's in Melbourne) where you can order stuff from, but if you are only here for a couple of weeks, I suggest you bring what you need with you. Our ingredients do differ, and the things you need are likely to cost you more.

There is a store called USA Foods in the suburb of Bentleigh which is in Melbourne. If you are coming to Melbourne you can get Crisco there. This is their website : http://www.usafoods.com.au/

Piping get is readily available from cake decorating stores.

Not too sure if you are allowed to bring your supplies over from USA as our customs/quarantine department has rather stringent restrictions on foodstuff. I would advise you to check before bringing it over. Thier website is : http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4221

Hope this helps.
