hmmm, let me see here...NOTHING!

We just moved and have the built in double ovens that both went out, and my 2 big burners on the stove top went out!
I'm working that day besides so DH is on his own!
(our kids have other plans with in-laws)

We're going to my in-laws, and she's making a pecan pie and cheesecake. I don't like either (yes, I know, I'm a weirdo but I don't like cheesecake or most pies!!). So I might make a red velvet -haven't done one in a while.

Wednesday night I'm having a small dinner for my 93-year-old aunt: turkey cutlets and gravy; corn bread, sage, and prosciutto stuffing; and some veggies.

Thursday I'm bringing a sweet potato casserole and probably the red velvet cake.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! GOBBLE TILL YA WOBBLE! icon_smile.gif

My family had Thanksgiving dinner yesterday due to work schedules and such. I made Kentucky jam cake, 14 layer chocolate cake, pumpkin roll, and red velvet cheesecake. DH fried a turkey. Mom made fruitcake, baked ham, baked turkey, stuffing, candied yams, mac and cheese, rice, butter beans, green beans with potatoes, broccoli casserole, and corn. Was a wonderful dinner and yes, I ate wayyy too much lol

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Aobodessa, you are so funny: "...and one of her progeny" - that is the line that really killed me, LOL..
We do Thanksgiving a little different due to our backgrounds and this year it's gonna be Friday as DH has to work. Just us only and still recovering from my daughter's first bday on Saturday so not going to do too much.

Curried squash soup
Wild rice stuffed sugar pumpkin
Cranberry sambhar and rice
Baked cornbread stuffing with spicy cranberry gravy
Puris (Indian frybread) - DH hasn't told me what he wants with them yet
Hominy with chilies and onion
something with apples and a chocolate cake - still working on what exactly

Like I said, not your usual fare, LOL....

Let me see if I can help.

Pumpkin rolls are a sponge type pumpkin batter baked in a jelly roll pan and filled with a cream cheese filling and then rolled up like a jelly roll. Well, that is what mine is anyway lol.

A beer butt chicken (I think) is the same thing I call drunken chicken. It is a whole chicken either baked or grilled in the upright position sitting on an opened can of beer. It is really juicy and tasty.

Hope this helps.

i must admit, i laughed at the thought of beer butt chicken..... and then when it was explained it was an "a-ha" moment! I have one of those little doo-hickies that you put the can of beer in and set the chicken on top.... in the butt...... lol...... i always called it "chik-CAN". I like "beer butt" better so now that is what i will use! thanks for that!
FOr me, my DH is the oldest of 28 cousins and this year one of the cousins is having dinner at their house. Not sure how many will be there but there is normally 35-40 of us. I will be bringing the ever popular Roasted TUrkey Cake. There is usually enough pies for everyone to have an entire pie to themselves so i'll bring the turkey cake. It's good enough for a laugh and all the kids would rather have cake than pie anyway. icon_smile.gif I also have these little turkey candy boxes made from a choc. mold filled with candy coated kisses.... enough for all the kids to have one.... very cute. I cooked last year at my house so this year i have it off! (kinda...lol)
HAPPY TURKEY DAY TO EVERYONE!

*does anyone else ever think of Joey from Friends wearing maternity pants in the Thanksgiving episode one year??? lol... makes me laugh...

We always go to a relatives house for Thanksgiving for dinner and ask what they want us to bring. This year both sides want the same thing. Green Bean Casserole and Strawberry/Rhubarb Pie. That's a favorite of everyones! But this year I'm also going to make cupcakes that look like Turkeys and take them. I thought the kids would enjoy that better than pie. If I get a burst of energy after the kids go to bed tonight I might make a batch for my sons preschool class tomorrow! (But I doubt it! My husband is out bowling and the house will be nice and quiet.) I might take advantage of doing nothing!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I don't really get to bake anything this year. We're going to Mom's and everyone helps out. My brother makes the pumpkin pies, Mom makes the cherry cheesecake (always the nonbaked recipe), and Granny is making another pie (pecan, I hope!!!). I'll be making my cake truffles and bringing them down.

Thursday it is my family, so everyone will be bringing something, but I still have to.....

TURKEY
DRESSING
MASHED POTATOES
PINEAPPLE CASSEROLL
BANANA SALAD
TURKEY CAKE
WALNUT PIE

Friday In-laws will be here icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif
So I will be doing...
TURKEY
DRESSING
MASHED POTATOES TURKEY CAKE

They can bring the rest. icon_lol.gif

Also I have to make a cake for nieces b-day for Friday too.

Sounds like a never ending list. But my mother has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers, and has been steadly getting worse, so this is a labor of love for her. She always did it all, so now I'll do it all for her.

Never take your mothers or anyone for granted, it is a very sad feeling when your mother tends to forget who you are.

Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potato (Baked)
Green Beans
Carrots
Broccoli
Cranberry Sauce
Olives
Maybe cornbread

Pumpkin Pie
6" chocolate cake (turkey)

Small group this holiday, dd and her 2 kids, me and dh. SIL is out of town visiting sick father. DS and family and dd and family out of state. Miss the days when I made 5 desserts. DD and her kids eat very, very little. Had to cut back sweets because hardly any will be eaten. DH and I could eat them all, but ever expanding waistlines are a sign that maybe we shouldn't. Anyway, we play bingo after dinner - something the grandkids love (prizes involved) so I have many, many $1 (or thereabouts) prizes to wrap also.

Happy Holiday all.

Just finished baking 2 jam cakes. Will ice them tomorrow with homemade caramel frosting. Cranberry sauce and asparagus casserole. We go to my aunt's every year and THIS year as soon as we finish lunch my hubby and I are headed to Albion MI so I can decorate a groom's cake on Friday for a wedding on Saturday! Back to KY on Sunday so I can start making a wedding and grooms cake for the NEXT weekend! That will be the end of the series "Wedding Cakes The Trilogy!"

Happy Turkey Day to EVERYONE!!

Absolutely nothing!!! icon_lol.gif I am cooking for 25 people and my Mother is making the pies. My SIL is bring homemade cookies. I will be baking a cake for my Sister on Friday. She has set up a Christmas Train Garden at our Church for the public to view. She will have it open on Saturday, so I thought I would make her a cake to serve. Haven't really decided yet how to decorate it though. I might try doing something with my edible printer. I haven't had a chance to use it much, so this is a good excuse.

cakesbykellie,
I think of Friends everytime I cook a turkey. For the past eleven years I have to do a "turkey dance" before I wash & prep the turkey for baking. All 3 of my girls love it. My youngest keeps asking me to stick it on my head & scare daddy. I reply that Mommy's head is too big & would get stuck. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Sounds like everyone is pretty traditional in their cooking. I'm having 18 guests and doing all the cooking. Thought seriously about ordering my pies from the nursing home here. Their baker is making fruit pies for $5, cream pies for $4.50, pumpkin for $5.50, and pecan for $6.50. I have tried her pies and they are wonderful. Can't believe they are selling them so cheap. Instead I'm having caramel apple pie, pumpkin pie, sugar free apple pie, and layered pumpkin dessert. I got the layered recipe out of the coupon section of the Sunday paper. The bottom layer is Twinkies. Tried it out on Lions Club last Thursday to see if it was okay. Brought some home and my grandkids loved it.

We call it "beer butt" chicken at our house, too. My one grandson always wants it or "chicken on a bone." That's fried chicken legs. Guess he has had so many chicken nuggets from the fast food lane that he started calling it that. The first time I had "beer butt" chicken the guy made aluminum foil hats to put on the chickens. He did one with Mexican spices and put a sombrero, Tex-Mex with a cowboy hat, etc. Was a good topic of conversation, anyway!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Hope they show the Friends episode this week and I don't miss it. Was one of their funniest!

Diane
