These are my first decorated cupcakes, as I'm just getting started. Yeah, I know, they're nothing hard but I thought they turned out kind of cute. I made homemade frosting for the first time too and it was super easy! I used a star tip to pipe the frosting on (I will never put frosting on with a knife/spatula again, btw) and the tailfeathers and beak are obviously candy corn. The eyes are the yellow part of the candy corn with frosting center. What do you honestly think? Constructive criticism please! icon_smile.gif

GREAT JOB!!!

One tip of advise... I made the candy corn cakes for halloween (the ones Wilton featured for halloween) and I placed candy corns on the sides stuck into the icing as you've done here, the next afternoon at the halloween party when I cut the cakes the candy corns were tacky and slimey like. They had sucked the moisture out of the icing/cake/somewhere and had gotten nasty, becareful with those lol. I hadn't had these in the fridge but had them sitting ontop of a ceramic top table (antique icon_wink.gif) which is sitting overtop the air conditioning vent in the floor... needless to say they were nice and cold and moist when we delievered them lol.

Anyway they are beautiful!!! Cute as a button! icon_smile.gif

Thanks! I actually got the idea for candy corn feathers here...I tweaked the designs though and came up with something all my own. It was really fun!

This is the frosing recipe...super easy! I got it from someone here.

4 ounces baking chocolate
3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 butter or marg, softened
2 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup milk

1) Microwave chocolate and let cool 10 min. (I put mine in the fridge)
2) Mix together powdered sugar, butter, vanilla and milk.
3) Add chocolate and stir.

A tip on the frosting...I don't know if this is the case with all frosting or not, but once you mix everything together let it sit a bit to see what the consistency will be. I didn't do this. It look really runny at first so I added a little more sugar. By the time I went to put it in the bag it was like fudge. So, I had to add more milk.

Yeah, I wasn't too worried about the candy because I made them just before we left for the potluck.

Anyway, I got my first time out of the way...hopefully my work gets better!
