Hey Betha! A warm welcome from a fellow Brit! I think your cake is a really great attempt for a first try! A few more under your belt, and you'll be decorating like a pro icon_smile.gif! The only pointer I'd give is that your stars need to be closer together in certain spots on your cake, so you don't see the cake through them, but overall a great job!

ditto! Welcome to CC Betha, this is a great site to learn from and share - as I'm sure you've found out by now.

It is a great cake for a first attempt, and you can only get better from here on.

Great job! Becareful though. You are likely to find yourself making cakes for no reason at all other then it's just fun! icon_smile.gif

My only tip would be when doing a cake where you use the star tip all over is to first ice your cake with the same color you are going to be doing the stars. That way, should a star not be quite close enough the color is still the same and isn't noticed.

Welcome to the world of cake addiction.

Wow, you took on quite a task for your first ever cake. Most people would not attempt such an effort the first time. I commend your courage!
You did quite well.

Welcome to the forums!

Welcome and you certainly did chose quite a cake for your first attempt. The ducky is darling. The best recommendation was to put thin coating of icing over the cake before you do your decorating. That way there is no cake showing through if you miss a small place. I look forward to seeing the Christmas cake. thumbs_up.gif

For a first cake you did a good job. You were brave to try the 3d cake for the first one, I grew up with a mom who did them and I didn't get brave enough to bake one until 2 years ago.

cowboy.gif Howdy Betha icon_biggrin.gif Welcome to the most addictive place on the world wide web!!! I've been a member here for such a short time and have become totally addicted! Your cake is wonderfully cute and I can't offer any advice except what everyone else has said and rest assured I made the same mistake with my candy corn cakes (in my photos) I didn't do a thin layer before staring which I should've.

Otherwise it's beautiful! You've got the bug girl! Keep it going! icon_biggrin.gif You'll find yourself coming here daily and probably staying right there refreshing and running here and there all day long like I do and most others probably do too. I love it here all the people are so warm and welcoming and helpful! Anytime you need anything don't hesitate to ask a question of anyone or post a forum thread and have tons of people ready to help! icon_biggrin.gif

Again welcome and good luck with your ventures icon_smile.gif

Your ducky is very cute for your first cake!!! I only thought of one other thing no one else mentioned and its not a big thing. I have found that using a proper cake board (instead of foil) makes a huge difference to the look of your cake. But as I said its only a little thing and your cake is great!
