Hi y'all,
I had a Precious Moments birthday cake for today and here it is. I don't think it looks anything like a precious moments figurine but it was the best I could do. I hope my customer likes it. Does anyone have any tips on modeling? The only other time I had done it was with my Bunny cake and the Tub cake. I need any help/advice you can give me for modeling.
Any and all comments welcome.

Thanks,
Lazy_Susan

I'm sorry i cant help you with modeling but i have to say that its a very pretty cake, i love the little hearts, are those royal? I love the details on the figure, she's very pretty. Do you have a pic of the precious moments figure that you were trying to duplicate?

Thank you very much. The hearts are Royal Icing (each one hand made!! LOL). I didn't use a specific Precious Moments figurine. I was just trying to make one to look like one. Hmmmm... Did I just make sense??? LOL

Did you use a pic or something, maybe that would have helped your modeling if you did so that way you can see exactly what goes where and how it should look. I think she's very pretty and i'm sure any customer would be happy with it. I'm definately saving it to my favs, just love those little hearts.

I don't know about Precious Moments (I haven't heard of that) but I do know that your little character is just beautiful and you should be very proud and much less critical of yourself. Your cake is adorable and if this is only an attempt at modelling then I think you are going to go from strength to strength. The key to modelling is to be in control of the medium you are working with and not be frightened to experiment with it. There is no right or wrong, if it is pleasing to the eye then it is perfect. I doubt you will ever be 100% happy with anything you do, I never am. I think that's quite healthy, I don't lose sleep over it. If you're not happy with your creation you can always eat it! I'd be very happy with this little girly though. You've done great!

Your cake is very pretty & the little figure looks a lot like a Precious Moments figurine!! I think what might be making you go "hmmmmm" is maybe just the coloring of the hair. Precious Moments figurines all have that muted sort of creamy colored hair & yours has a beautiful yellow color. I think it would be really hard to duplicate the color of the figurines & would probably take a lot of trial & error on mixing the colors. I wouldn't worry about it though because you did a wonderful job on your cake & I don't think you need a bit of help on modeling. You did great!!! thumbs_up.gif

I agree with Daisyblue. The modeling isn't the difficulty, that's great. The colors you used are much stronger than the Precious Moments figurines. Theirs are very delicate, barely a hint of color. I have no idea of how you could duplicate that almost translucent color.

I think it's not a bad try at all. If I were to order a Precious Moments cake, I would be thrilled with that one.

Remember, we are our own worst critic. The customers are always wowed, aren't they? It's an awesome cake, really.

I think the modeling itself is excellent! IMO the only thing missing is the teardrop shaped eyes. That seems to be the distinguishing factor in a Precious Moments.

But its an awesome cake!

The lace points are just stuck into the icing and the pearls are all handmade from fondant and rolled in luster dust. I charged $35.00 for the cake. It was for a friend from work.

Thanks for the compliments,

Oh I think this cake is simply adorable! Into my favorites it goes! I have not ventured out making figures yet but I am getting there. LOOOOVE the little hearts--may I borrow this idea? I am trying to come up with an idea for my daughter's 1st birthday in January.

Of course you can! icon_smile.gif Anything of mine anyone may use. If you would like the directions please let me know and I'll give them to you. The hearts are real easy to make and not too very time consuming.
