Just getting some ideas........do you usually do 2 layer cakes, or three layers for your wedding cakes?

At the bakery where I work we do all our wedding cakes 2 layers, we level them all to 4" in height, unless we have a special request for 6" tiers. I do see wedding cakes tiers range anywhere between 3-6", I guess it is a personal preference.

I do 2 layers, however I have done the 3" and cut it so I have 3 one inch layers and it looks pretty when cut.

I do two layers, but torte each of them into two layers for a total of 4 layers per tier. Each tier is usuallybetween 4 and 4.5 inches tall.

I do triple-layers, for 5" to 5.5" in height.

I bake two layers and then torte to four. The slice of cake looks lovely on teh plate with the four payers of cake and three layers of filling.

Most caterers everywhere serve the wedding cake on a 5"/6" bread and butter plate, so a four inch tall slice, lying on it's side fills the plate nicely.

If your bride requests a 6" tall tier, then she also needs to inform her caterer to bring different dessert plates.
