Well... I have vowed to never do wedding cakes...(small exceptions for family & friends)

So..technically...this 4-tiered/stacked cake order isn't a wedding cake.
For over a month, I have been fretting, worrying, planning, shopping...studying (here on CC!) and what not!

This is a 14 "-10"-8" & 6" (double layered) cake!
Black being the main colour...hot pink then silver in pursuit.
This is for a sweet 16 birthday!
lol
I am a little exhausted as I just finished decorating the 4 parts. Am not assembling till I get to the party-site. I live in the boondocks and the roads are crappy. Hilly, curvy, bumpy!

I am just super glad that the biggest part is done! I am enjoying a wee little drink to calm my nerves.
Tomorrow..I shall get this cake outta my hair!! lol
Then I shall post pics.
Thanks for reading...really, are we crazy or what?? lol

Yep, we're crazy, but that's not going to help you. Stop worrying you have this under control. Just think of it as a few individual cakes. (one at a time) then put those bad boys together. See? You got it. Hope this helps.

LMBO!
Yes...I have it under control!
You make it sound so easy..lol.

My hubby was super helpful when he suggested I use the electric saw in the basement to cut my dowel rods. icon_eek.gif I just used snips and they worked great!! LOL

Today is the delivery & setup day! I am pretty pumped.
I woke up in the middle of the night thinking thoughts like..."I hope they have a solid-level table"..."I hope the cakes look good to them"
I scolded myself and went back to sleep. icon_rolleyes.gif

Funny thing to add... At one point I am doing scroll work on the side of one of the cakes...(hot pink scrolls on black icing)...and it wasn't going well at all. thumbsdown.gif Well..after about 3 re-try's (scraping it off and re-smoothing the black surface icon_mad.gif ) I chanted to myself- "I am NOT going to cry... I am NOT going to cry"! And I am proud to say- I didn't! icon_biggrin.gif

OMy you sound exactly like me when I have a big cake due!! Hang in there and take good pictures. After all, once everything is said and done, a good picture is all you have. Afterward, I like to do something to treat myself (go out with the girls, have a drink, whatever sound fun at the time) Good luk

Oooohhhh MDG...not so sure about those wedding cakes just yet. lol
I know I can do them..no issue's there. There is just waaaaaay too much mental stress involved. Though...I have to say I have learned a TON!

I have been decorating cakes for over 20 years now. I learned as a teen at Baskin Robbins...and really haven't looked back.
I have gotten married & popped out 5 children since..so things were slow in between..but I am busier than ever now with the cake thing..and am LOVING it! icon_biggrin.gif

And no worries...I am gonna take TONS of pics..LOL

ok...
It's done! I am back home and thrilled that it's done!
There was a slight problem though...the colours aren't exactly the same...that bothered me. The party isn't for a while yet so maybe the colours will settle more?
I used the same batch of icing. icon_confused.gif
Anyhow..here she is...

The cake looks amazing! Congratulations! And you did not lose your mind!

As for the slight color change, did you use a big decorating bag filled with pink to decorate the whole cake? Sometimes the warmth of your hands will cause a color change as you progress through the decor on a cake. I have hot hands. For that reason I prefer to use smaller bags, with a smaller amount of icing that gets refilled pretty often. The color change is far less obvious that way, at least to me.

It's also possible you had a portion of icing which did not get stirred enough when you added your color. Sometimes I have missed scraping a section of the bowl when I add more color, or more white, and I'll have a part of the decor that is a slightly different color. I am a lot more careful about that now.

In any case, the cake looks great! My hat is off to you! I know the birthday girl must have loved it!

Thanks so much!
..and that advice about the colour being affected by heat is really good. I'll keep that in mind for the next time. icon_smile.gif

That cake is fantastic! Very cool!

Like you, wedding cakes make me too nervous that they are not worth it for me plus I've just realized I'm 2 divorces for 4 wedding cakes. Not a great stat!
