I really want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you here on CC!!! My customers and friends give me the biggest compliments on cakes that I got the idea for from HERE from all of YOU! Don't worry....I ALWAYS give credit to the idea creator on here and in real life. I just really hope that none of you mind when I borrow/use your ideas.

People here post their cakes and are well aware that others are looking for ideas. I am very grateful for this site and how peple are so willing to give out details of HOW TO through posts and PM's.
I wouldn't call it being an idea theif, I would call it getting inspired.
That's one of the reasons why we're here. Be sure and tell the person that they inspired your cake. I always do that and it seems to be appreciated even though mine don't look NEAR as good as theirs do. 
Oh, well.
(And yes BTW, there are a few Gents here also.)
this site is all about sharing. when people download their pictures i think they realize that they are offering their ideas for everyone to be inspired by... and of course to show off their great work 
also, i agree, it is so appreciated when someone references the person and/or cake that they were inspired by here on CC. i think it makes the person feel good that their idea was good enough to inspire someone else.
I'm a teacher in my real life (as opposed to doing cakes) and we all agree that part of good teaching is recognizing when someone else does something good and then stealing it. Therefore the better idea thief you are, the better teacher you are. I figure it works that way with cakes too. I mean really - where else would that whole thing about imitation being the purest form of flattery come from? 
As a class "A" idea thief, I couldn't imagine not having all the wonderful cakes to look at so I can incorporate them into what I do. I thought that was the whole idea behind having this sort of forum. And, yes, credit needs to be given to whom ever you borrow the idea from. Sort of a form of advertisement, isn't it? Big hugs to all the bakers! And many thanks, too!!

I'm an idea thief too. Even though I try to create my own ideas sometimes, I usually end up coming here for help. This site is full of talent and I don't think any of us mind sharing ideas for others to use.

I get so many ideas from all of you guys! There are a lot of things I wouldn't be able to attempt without the ideas and advice I find here. So, I too, am an idea thief! Thanks to all of you whom I have stolen from!!!
I also have had some people on the site who have asked if they could borrow one of my ideas--my ideas--are you serious? That's good enough to borrow????? It sure does feel good when someone wants to imitate something you have done. I think that is a huge compliment to me and I hope it's a huge compliment to someone else when I ask to borrow something from their work. And of course, give credit where credit is due for the idea, but the work you do on your cake is still yours. Call it a collaboration of great minds.
i think that's the nature of the business/hobby. you see something you like, you re-create it. but i don't think anyone tried to re-create it exactly. at least i don't. i recently made a spider cake. the very first time i did something that wasn't round. i looked at several spiders on here and combined features from various spiders and made it work from me. the end result was a lite-green spider with a chiclet-type buck tooth. the tooth idea came from the movie dennis the menace.
but i think it's a person who is secure with him/herself who can make a cake and tell others that it was someone else's idea.
i love getting ideas from here and everywhere else. i need to because i'm not creative. i can't work from abstract. i need to see it.
I use tons and tons of ideas I find here. I must have thousands of photos of cakes saved onto my computer and I'd bet a huge majority of them are from fellow CC members. I too give credit when I replicate something I've seen here and I appreciate it when someone does the same for me.
What an ego boost too, huh?!?! To me, there is nothing better than being complimented or copied by a fellow decorater! Makes me feel like I must be doing something good.

I always find ideas here and books. I takes ideas from different designs to conbine my own. I would be lost with out this place.
I don't think of it as stealing lol. I think of it as part of the learning process and helping others to grow in the art of cakes is a great gift to each other, so steal away people. It makes the world a better place.
I'm so glad that I have found a place to ask questions, share ideas and get help when I am completly lost. I love that we can share our comments and thoughts and not get criticized. Most of all I so thankful for the ideas that I get from all you wonderful people here at CC, it truly does make cake decorating more fun when you have so many people who are into the same thing you do and get just as excited.
I think most of us are in the same boat. I don't consider myself an artist - someone who can come up with extraordinary, original ideas. That type of creativity is why Duff and Collette are where they are!
But I am a good copycat! I've decorated cakes since I was 12 yrs old ( lets just say it's been a LONG time 
) and have always scoured books, magazines, the net, and now this site for ideas and inspiration. Taking an idea, changing it around, putting my own spin on it, that's what I've always done.
I am very grateful to those who are so willing to share their ideas and expertise. And flattered when someone wants to use my work as their inspiration.
You can find inspiration anyplace, anywhere and anytime.
I was at the Party store last night with my son, and waiting in line..the LONG LINE because EVERYONE and their mother was there last minute HALLOWEEN shopping..
I got about 3 terrific ideas from the gift bags I was looking at while in line!
and I got myself 2 other things that I am planning to use to make cakes..
so..that is 5 different cakes that I was inspired to design!
18 dollars later...WELL SPENT!

Remember, in art, there are "movements" where the artists are all using the same style, or basically copying each other. They had guilds (guildes) as their forums.
CC is just our Cake Guilde to help the Cake Movements become worldwide!
I joined this site a couple of months ago. I find myself wanting to look at the cakes daily now. I have learned invaluable tips, etc. on the forums!
My experience is growing with the help and knowledge that is shared here. The pictures are such inspirations! I would be absolutely flattered/elated if someone were to "steal" one of my ideas!
