Just wanted to drop in and say hello. I've been lurking for a while, trying to read as much as I can. I'm new to all this...new as in before the last couple of weeks all I've ever done is rip open a box and make a round cake. LOL!! Within the past couple of weeks though I've made and used some MMF, made two carved cakes, and am working on another tonight. I've gotten a lot of good info from this site and another (not sure if I'm supposed to mention other sites or not).
Anyway, I'm Kevin and I live in Pensacola, FL. I'm married and have 6...yes 6 kids. The oldest is a United States Marine and just returned from a year in Iraq.....the youngest is a 2yr old going on 10..LOL!! And only 1 of the 6 is a girl...so yeah I'm wrapped pretty tight around her 3yr old little finger. Well, that's enough about me for now...just wanted to say hello and great site! You guys do some pretty incredible stuff here!!

You are so right Theresa!! What started out to be just a "quick" learning experience so that I can make my son's 6yr old Bday cake has rapidly turned into an addiction...LOL!! I've purchased more powdered sugar, crisco, and eggs in the past couple of weeks than I have in my entire life beforehand. My wife is okay with this addiction though...lol....imagine that!

Here is my first attempt at making and using MMF .... the kids loved it so I was happy with it. TONS harder than I imagined it would be!!!!
First attempt at a carved cake.... a Lowrider truck .... had issues with the crusting bc...I'm getting better with it though. 
Second carved attempt....this one was for my SIL's Bachelorette Party. LOL..they loved it...so again, I was happy with it. There is a pic of it in the naughty cake area.

Welcome KevinC, very nice to see the men jumping in on this site. My Grandpa and Uncle were both bakers, decorators, pastry chief's from way back. As a little girl I loved watching them do their thing. It took me till this past summer to try it out for myself. Now I see what I was missing. Have fun learning and practicing. See ya around.

Yeah, I can't believe how addictive this whole cake thing is... Before I finish one cake, I've already decided what the next one will be! I've also become a regular at Micheal's and Hobby Lobby...the only thing bad about that is now I can't complain when my wife and her mom go there and spend money....LOL!!
Oh, and Daddy has always been in the kitchen. I cook probably 90% of the meals around here. I've always enjoyed cooking and grilling!
