I think it's very good. I've never worked with wilton fondant, so I don't have any tips about the cracking issue. I don't see and cracks though. He looks very cute!! Good job!!

Love it. very cute donkey.
cracking issue. I don't know about wilton fondant but i never put fondant in the microwave. cover the mass always in the clingfilm. even when you are working the pieces always cover the rest so it doesn't dry out. if it is already dry then try some crisco and humidity. knead it til the dry pieces have dissapeared. sometimes it works, sometimes there is nothing that you can do to save it.

I agree with you, a little grease on fingers really helps, I could'nt manage without that when doing models....your donkey looks fine, very cute

He's so cute, the face is great, but shouldn't his ears be more pointed at the ends???

If he's dry you can dust him with gray petal dust (mix black petal dust or ground artist's charcoal - non toxic - with cornstarch to get the color you wish), instead of doing him all over. I think the brown underneath would give him great definition.

Then all you have to do is re-do the ears and attach them. Melt some fondant in some water (about 50-50 mixture) and use that as glue. Use toothpicks to stick the ears in, if necessary.

His face is done too well to start over completely.

The reason I did not put his ears straight up is most of the donkey pictures that I have one of the ears was laying over a little...I also didn't put a tail..because of course it won't show. Thanks tmriga for the advice on the petal dust.

You did a great job!! Looks good, I think I would make him gray. I have also found that if you work some crisco into your fondant it really helps!

Is that a donkey or a hole in the ground?
I have been told that I didn't know my ..... from a hole in the ground, I guess it's true!

Sorry, but I just couldn't resist the temptation!!!!!
I think your donkey looks great! Isn't it fun making figures from fondant?
I have been working on some ghosts, scarecrows, etc. for a fall festival this weekend.

Ok difference with this one...my mmf not wilton!!!! And let me ask you this question...do you think it's ok to have a woman donkey on the cake...even though the politician is a woman???? lol

Whoa Nellie.....

No female donkey on the cake! If you know your political history, unlike the republicans eventually adopting the elephant symbol, the democrates never really adopted the donkey. It was created as a political cartoon reference to Andrew Jackson being a Jacka$$ and if your "party" is in honor of a female politican oh boy what a nasty reference.

Let's get out the VOTE to: "Keep the donkey sexless."

My 2 cents: I thought it was cute as a brown donkey, it doesn't need a tail or mane either! There is a cute "true" donkey down the road from me and she is brown...... icon_lol.gif Who says you need to color with in the lines anyway??????

Although, a piece of straw between those adorable teeth would be cute. icon_wink.gif

Wow! That's some donkey you have there! I really like the grey one. That was MMF that you used? Can't wait to see the entire cake. I would like to try this or a horse but mine would probably never look that good!
