Ok, friday my husband called me at work to tell me that a
package arrived. I was so excited because I knew what it was.

It was 34 jars of Luster Dust that I ordered from
Payless?Caljava, the two jars for $3.98.. icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

It was the quality that I expected.. Good quality, has the shine that it should have. I might order another 20 jars since they are the cheapest one around. comes out to $1.99/jar. any color!!! icon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_biggrin.gif
just want to share my excitement. thanks for reading icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

That is a good price. How expensive was the shipping if you don't mind me asking?

so it was two separate jars of the SAME color then?? You have to order them in two's? It's the normal size jars too right??

Yes, the color has to be the same since they come in two's..
And yes the size is the regular 2 ounce jar.

I ordered mostly Golds, greens and pinks.. I used 99% of the time Luster dust and not petal.. I'm getting ready for Christmas.. I live in CA and the company is in CA, I think that's why they charged me taxes also.
But inspite of the shipping and taxes, I am very happy. icon_smile.gif

The shipping depends on how much you order..
here is the website: http://paylesscakedecor.com/lusterdust1.htm

prettycakes,

what's the difference between luster dust and petal dust? Is petal dust just more muted colors or is there a bigger difference I'm missing?

I'm still getting a virus warning from McAfee, so I called my DB and he is going to try it, he has Norton. I'll get back as soon as I can get him to do this. Janice

Hi, my DB said he didn't get any warning from the Norton antivirus when he went there, so maybe it is just a glitch.

McAfee said it is a Low Risk bug that will cause your computer to turn off and on continuously, so you'd know right away if you got it.

Luster Dust is the very shiny one.. Like Gold, Silver , Pearl and other colors that are very shiny.

Petal Dust has no shine. Just color. Kind of like chalk, but in powder form.

I had no virus warnings when I got this website address. icon_smile.gif
I think every computer is different. I think ! icon_smile.gif

What is up with the pearl dust? Does the color not appear until you add the liquid because they are all 'white'..... I am stumped as to which ones to get because I can't figure out what I would use this on.... Is this what everyone uses to color their fondant? Or would you tint the fondant different colors and get a basic shimmer dust to go over all the colors?

OK, one more question....always the cheapo icon_redface.gif , I mean frugal one, I am wondering if powdered color ( they sell at the cake store ) could be diluted in alcohol and used as a cheaper form of 'paint'? Anyone know if they are the same? tx

I just ordered pretty basic colors. I was undecided about the pearls too, so got the Oyster one instead for a while effect. Should be fun to play with.

icon_smile.gif Looks like they are going to have to creat a new "forum rank' for you soon! I am baffled by the luster & sparkle - if they're the same thing why are they listed differently? That is a great deal so I will be forced to charge a couple. icon_lol.gif

I've used the powdered colors in icing, but not as paint, it probably would work, but I don't think it would be shiny. HTH

Just looked at my posts, can't type worth a darn today, not even my own name! Janice

Thanks for the tip on the luster dusts! What an amazing deal! By the way, I didn't get a virus warning for that site either and I have AVG, the best anti-virus product out there! (OK, I'm a little prejudiced...my dad works for the company! icon_wink.gif ) Anyway, I had no problems!

Hey, Kylie,

That would come out to about 2.50 a jar over there. You might be better off ordering a boatload of it and selling it!

On the serious side, I sent Payless an e-mail to let them know that I get a virus alert when I go to their website. I have received no response, so I am guessing that they're working on it.

Theresa

i went to the site and it would roughly cost me for the sixty colors they have around $360.00 (this amount is worked out, taking into consideration the difference in our dollar to the american dollar, i would get two colors for the price that i pay for one in aus) and because i get two of each color i could sell one jar of each and make some money back....

If we did'nt eat this week then i could order them all. lol...

am i obsessed or what!!!!!

I did'nt get any virus warnings when i went to the site. i use nortons.....

kylie

edited to explain myself properly
