Are Square Cakes Boring And Not As Pretty As Rounds.

Hey CCusers
I made a square cake (one layer)today and I hated it. I think the biggest reason is because I can never make them look as pretty as rounds. I did not take a pic of it. Seems like they are almost impossible for me to make the icing smooth. I prefer not to make them is this just me???

I like square cakes as well - in fact I'm making one tomorrow. I think round cakes are very pretty, but they are also very common. I love square cakes for "male" cakes better than round ones.
I agree square cakes are great to decorate. You will find your favorite way to decorate square cakes. I used the method here to get the corners smooth. After that I have had fun decorating them.
Yep, square cakes can be even better to decorate than rounds.
I like square cakes, too... and the hexagon ones are neat as well. I just started adding some pics here, and a couple of them are square cakes.
It may take a bit to get inspiration for them, though, as you find more pics of round cakes to get ideas from.
I like square cakes I just don't like to do sheet cakes. Now to me sheet cakes are boring~
I agree with you. I have a harder time getting any straight line smooth. I think that's why I don't like them. As soon as I finished my Wilton classes for either class I or II. A lady at my church asked if I'd do the grooms cake for her daughters wedding. After I found out what it was I could have screamed. Three square cakes stacked covered in chocolate with Hershey's kisses around teh edge. No border; just unwrapped or wrapped kisses with the really big kiss on top. I alternated the wrapped with the unwrapped. I didn't like it. At the wedding the wedding cake fell;and most everyone ate the grooms cake. No, I didn't make the wedding cake. the lady who made has RA; that's why I did the grooms. Anyway, I struggled with getting those cakes smooth.
I apologize for teh rabbit trail. ![]()
