I made this cake for a wedding today and I'm charging them $85. It's a 6, 8 and 10" double layer chocolate cakes with buttercream frosting and royal icing flowers... am I overcharging??? I just think it's such a simple plain looking cake that I'm afraid I'm asking too much...

I think $85 is wayyyyyyy to low. You should charge at least $250. The cake does not look simple or plain. The colour is beautiful and your lacework is really nice. A cake does not have to be very ornate to be beautiful!

It's a very beautiful cake! I think you should be asking for a lot more.

I've never sold a wedding cake, but you are charging WAAAAAAY too little. I actually gasped when I saw your cake - it's gorgeous, not to mention big. We all know how much work goes into even a simple-looking cake. Getting buttercream nice and smooth for a simple look is HARD. You need to raise your prices - you're worth more than that!!!

I totally agree. You're not nearly charging enough. In the past I've paid more than that for a sheet cake. Your cake is worth so much more!!

Very pretty cake! Icing looks SO smooth!! Great job!

Ok, $85??? They got a deal and I mean a DEAL. I think they stole this cake from you.

Pricing generally depends on your area. But, one way to figure it up is your ingredients x 2 or 2.5; and then you have to figure in like $7 per hr of your labor. I think thats the right way to figure it up.

I agree with Kris2005, $85 is too little. How many people does it serve? I'd charge at least $1.75/serving, it's beautiful!

I agree! You needed to charge way more than that for labor alone. You are an artist and your creations are one of a kind and are worth not only all of the ingredients (times about 2), but especially your labor. If I was the bride I would feel really bad about giving you only $85 for that!!!

very pretty. I think you did charge waaay under what you could have charged. When I was reading your description I thought maybe the cake would be plain, but this cake is really pretty. I won't even attempt tiered cakes--course I am in the "let's do the car cake for ds's birthday"--very novice here.

definitely in the $200.00 price range. That cake is beautiful.

As someone has said before, they are not only paying for cake but for art.

Like everyone else, I think you way undercharged and gave them a deal. However, everyone can use a deal sometimes and since you've given them such a great deal I'm sure they'll rave about what a nice person you are and what good work you do. We all know that good word of mouth is a cake decorators best friend. So, yes, you undercharged but don't stress about it because you'll probably reap great benefits for it!! Good work!

Oh my no! I would pay YOU to make my daughters cake and I could sit back and enjoy everything. That would not be worth my time and supplies. They got a deal!

You might not get some cake orders because of your prices but oh well. I learned that this week. If they don't want to pay your prices then let them go to Walmart right Mac?! icon_smile.gif Charge more! Your worth it!! Your talent, your time, the ingredients... is MORE then worth it!!
