Here is one I made last weekend for a family member. I also was busy getting ready for a party in my home, so I didn't have much time to spare decorating. So I used some premade flowers I bought for last minute cake emergencies.

Knowing I wanted to make leaves I used green for all the buttercream decorations. Then used multiple colors of flowers to divert attention from the fact, lol.

My quick and easy answer is to use a pattern press for scrolls and designs, the decorating triangle, and balloons. Just cut out oval shapes of fondant and add a string to the bottom. Here are some examples.

and my most recent toy airbrushing makes it easy too. I just bought a few stencils that are patterns. Lay them on there and airbrush the pattern. It looks good. This was my first attempt.

Ive found that a very light sprinkling of edible glitter quickly perks up a cake or cookies. My favorite is "Hologram gold."

I don't have time to read the whole thread right now, but Wanted to share my favorite. I recently made a golf ball cake. The top was a big golf ball, but the lower was grass. I covered the sides with various leaf tips, just as big long leaves, then added more at different heights, so it looked like a lawn. It was very fun, and very fast.

I don't have the picture of the cake up yet, but will soon.

Thank you yellobutterfly icon_biggrin.gif Too bad I didn't win at state though icon_sad.gif I still got fairly high points but not first place. The only negative comment on the sheet was that they didn't like the buttercream showing beneath the ganache...boy, it would have been easier to completely cover it than to make it like I did but I was trying to make it yummy and it's pretty much supposed to look like that icon_rolleyes.gif Somehow, I don't think that the judge knows that much about pastry or decorating...but then, what do you expect at a grange contest? It's less formal than the fair.

melysa - I'm very impressed with your cakes - I love the ribbon ones, they look very simple yet soooo elegant!

This is a great thread, and has given me inspiration for quick ideas when in a pinch - traditionally I have just done a confetti cake or cornelli lace when in a hurry - I can't wait to try some of these! Also, the chocolate wraps are new to me - I'll have to keep that in mind, don't think I've seen them before. How do you do the ribbon roses? Just roll up a strip of fondant? They're super cute!!

thank you for the compliments! for the ribbon roses, roll out a strip of fondant, fold over long ways while adding some pleating, then roll them up, pleating a bit more as you go. cut the excess from underneath and viola!

the chocolate wraps are just about my favorite thing to do. they're fast, easy, and elegant, oh AND delicious! they fool people too, they hardly ever know to EAT the chocolate unless you tell them its edible, and they always ask HOW you got it on there to begin with. here is a link by shirley who gives excellent instructions.

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=310123 (this was my first one...please ignore the chocolate bloom color, i didnt temper my chocolate!....learned from that lesson fast!!!)

one thing also that i learned from that last one (my first actually- the fishing one) was to not do a HUGE cake on the first try. that was a 12" round. the chocolate is SO heavy and its hard to wrap unless you've done it before. it is far easier to start on a 6 or 8" round instead and work your way up.

I love those chocolate wrape cakes! I'm going to have to give it a try sometime...seems like there was a tutorial around here somewhere. will have to check it out icon_biggrin.gif It just seems like it might be hard to do, with all the tempering and whatnot...

Hi everyone,
I have been going through this thread for the past one hour and have fallen in love with cakes pictures linked in this thread.
I see that a lot of you work with chocolate wraps and such. I posted a question about a closely related topic on this forum yesterday. The post is over here: http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-476833.html
Please look through my post and add any suggestions or advice you might have.
Thx!

melysa - thanks for the link, I'm still reading the 11 page thread on wraps icon_wink.gif it's very informative, I've honestly never heard of a chocolate wrap until this thread of yours - but can't wait to play!! a few more questions for you - where do you purchase the mylar, is it expensive? Do you reuse the same piece or buy a piece specifically fit for each cake you do? also, did you use a chocolate transfer on top of your wrap for this cake (below)

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=835753

if so, what is the technique for chocolate transfers?

Finally, how hard is it to cut a cake with a chocolate wrap on/around it? Does it crumble everywhere, etc?

Thanks!

Julie

Havinfun-- On page 5 of this thread Crisseyann had a link to her picture of Starburst Roses. I'm not sure how you keep them from sticking to your rolling pin (other than maybe a little crisco). You might want to PM her. Here's a picture. Sure looks yummy, huh? Thanks Crisseyann!

Oh I swear by tootsie roll roses they are super fast to put together I always keep tootsie rolls in my baking basket as they are also great for cutting out with cookie cutters like I did on my small valentine cakes in my pics. They can be rolled flat as well then cut into different shapes to make wood or plaques and the contrast on a choc cake is so appealing.
