To loose 60-70 lbs & not gain it back??? ![]()
![]()
I've done the Dr B thing & that was successful, but very hard, & very very expensive. I've actually did the diet 3 times as every time I stop doing it cause I can't afford to do it anymore financially, I can't seem to stay at that weight, it all just jumps right back on....
Anywho, my real question is, I'm financially in no position to go to a specialist or to join a gym. Do any of you have any tips for getting back on the wagon... I know that once I've past the first week, I can keep going it's just getting started again... ![]()
What I would recommend for exercise is to go walking or running. I do it all the time. I load up the kids in the jogging stroller and off I go. Depending on how tired I am I will walk from 1-3 miles. Plus my neighborhood has lots of hills so it's actually a lot more strenuous (sp?) than a walk around a track. The best part about walking is it's free!
If you can't walk around your neighborhood then you could go to a local high school. They usually have a track that you could walk on. As for diet, I don't eat bad carbs; white bread, white rice, potatoes, etc.. Plus I don't eat sugar. I have lost 25 lbs in 3 months and have another 45 to go to get to my goal. Just remember if you want to keep off the weight you have to maintain the new lifestyle. You can't eat fast food/junk food all of the time and expect to not gain weight. (I'm not saying you do, I was just generalizing) Now you can cheat every once in a while. Hey we're all human and I can tell you that I don't have the best will power and I do cheat sometimes. I just get right back in to eating the way I'm supposed to and keep on going towards my goal. Just hang in there and the weight will come off and stay off. Good luck! ![]()
Well, I just had to reply here. First of all, your username is right up my alley (guessing you're a Bon Jovi fan). I'm a huge fan (and by huge, I mean I really love the guy, and I have a lot of weight to lose!).
I have been on Jenny Craig twice and Weight Watchers. I always lose lots of weight and then gain it back when I stop.
I need to lose 60-70 lbs myself, and always have a hard time getting on the wagon also. Maybe we can motivate each other. Start today by doing a little exercise and make a few better food choices. I know that there is no way I'm going to give up all the food that bad that I love.....but if I exercise more, I know the waistline will shrink a bit!
Ok.....I WILL do something other than exercise my tv remote control finger today!!!!!!
Thats right girlfriend!! Bon Jovi All the way!!!
Well so far I've started to make some good choices, by changing my coffee this morning, I always drink decaf, however I went back to sweetner & milk as suppose to sugar & cream. I have my liter of water in the fridge for me to consume today & I also went to get some old pics of me when I was thinner & put them on the fridge as a reminder of my goal everytime I open it!!! Doing the picture thing made me sad as I realized I only have a handful of picture & only maybe 2 or 3 where I actually look ok... I really need to change that....
Plus as Bon Jovi has just release Lost highway, I'm assuming their will be a world tour sometime soon, so I guess their is another big motive to get in shape ![]()
BTW where are you from itsmylife? Nice to meet you!
The water is a REALLY good idea. When I was on Jenny Craig, I would always lose more weight the weeks I drank more water.
I know exactly what you mean about the pictures.... the more weight I gain, the less pictures there are of me. I know I'll never be a skinny minnie, but if I could just get to the upper number of what's considered 'normal' for my height, I would be ecstatic.
They are doing a tour for Lost Highway starting some time next year. I wish they would come out with the dates already. I went to the Have a Nice Day show last year and, if you can believe it, I actually touched his hand.
My friends all laugh at me for this, but he really is a great singer. I've been going to his shows since the 80's. My husband got me the fan club membership and the Bon Jovi Philly Soul jersey for Christmas last year. I was in heaven
.
I'm just south of Tampa, Florida - nice to meet you too!!
Denise
Well I'm soo glad to have found support here at CC! ![]()
Because any other time I've been on a diet or tried to, I do not tell anyone.. I mean my DH notices because he sees what I eat but I do not discuss it with him or anyone for that fact as I don't want to hear it or be embarassed when I fall off the wagon or I hate to hear when I'm on a diet that "this won't hurt you" or "one day you can splurge..." etc... Because that one day will hurt that week/weeks or months of effort....
I'm not too sure if it's right or wrong what I've done in the past, however I'm glad I can talk about it with people who can really understand what I'm going thru.
Thanks again CC ![]()
I need to lose the same amount as you both. I just cant seem to get myself going. I just went back to medifast which is expensive and I only stuck to it for a week.
My best friend is a HUGE Bon Jovi fan. She went to see him in Vegas a couple months ago. DH thinks she is obsessed with him, boarderline stalker. lol But thanks to her I'm listening to his new stuff now too!
Also, there is a DVD by Leslie Sansone that it called Walk Away the pounds and it is great, especially when it's 99 degrees outside and too hot to walk. Here's a link http://www.lesliesansone.com/store/index.html
I love her DVDs, I have the 3 & 4 mile. It really works, so far I have lost 8lbs.
Good luck
Hope this Helps

I've been using www.sparkpeople.com. I think it was actually someone on CC that recommended it. It's great and FREE! I managed to lose 46 pounds.

After finishing high school & I was over weight & then started hanging out with my friend & which back then considered of being outside all day & just walking... I lost all my extra weight in no time.. I do believe that walking is very good, however it's alot harder for me to get out now with my kids & work...
I don't mind walking... but when it's a billion degrees outside, and you have to stop every five minutes for someone who needs a sippy or a snack or whatever... it kind of defeats the purpose.
I just found out that I have a channel on tv called FITTV... they have exercise shows on all the time....so I'm thinking that maybe I could do that for a half hour in the morning after I take my son to school. Even with the younger one there... I think I could do it while he's eating his breakfast.
I have got to get to drinking my water.

Maybe try taking a walk early in the morning by yourself if posible or after dinner, if someone is there is watch the kids. If you can find a buddy to walk with it makes is alot easier...
I have 2 little girls as well & know how hard it can be... I'm not a morning person, however I will try to do the evening walk at least a few times a week or on the weekend....
Well I tink the hardest part of the day for me is breaking the habit of eating at night after dinner, & I'm not taking about a little dessert, usually when the kids are down & I have some relax time, that is when I find I eat what is not good for me considering I just eat even thou I'm not really that hungry chips, cookies, ice cream, chocolate, etc. & not just 1 or 2, I'm talking fairly big quantities. I think this is the hardest part of dieting for me.... I can deal with the day up until about an hour after dinner then the bad habits attack ![]()
![]()
... Any ideas on how to break this nasty habit... ![]()

I am right with you gals.......and would love love to lose 40-50 lbs...........and I did the leslie sansone videos for 6 months and while I do think it helped me feel better......I never lost any weight (I did them 5 days a week---2 mile one and I alternated with the walk/kick one)........a friend of my family started walking a mile in the morning (with her new pup) and and 2-3 miles in the evening......and she has lost like 20lbs......
I think the motivation is the hardest part.....it really does help to have a buddy........I was just talking with my DH about going for walks in the evening, but he hates summer and would hate it.
We just moved to a new neighborhood where most of the houses in our section aren't even built yet. There is a bunch of construction going on, and I could walk by myself in the morning.... but I'm just not comfortable doing it with all the construction crews around. Now I know that they wouldn't be 'checking me out' or anything like that..... it's just my own self-esteem issues. I know they are there, and I know I feel like a blob, and the faster I walk the more everything jiggles (sad but true
).
Occasionally, we go for walks as a family... but if the heat and mosquitos don't drive you insane...it's the constant stopping to look at rocks, and bugs....etc or the 'i want a snack... i'm tired..... alex just threw his sippy in the dirt pile.......'
I'm gonna try the tv thing tomorrow morning and see if I can do that.
I'm also a terrible late nite snacker. I have tocarrots or fruit... but seriously... who the heck wants to much on that when there is ice cream in the freezer. I did start buying the fat free & lite ice creams a while back...small step.. but it's a start.

Good for you! You are on the right track! Keep it up ![]()
Well I got thru day 1 which included a trip to Walmart, no cookies or chocolate this time.... Just what I needed fruit, veggies & chicken...
I drank the whole litre of water (& I also seen the toilet a lot more
)
Plus I was able to get a few laps in our swimming pool
) I say that was a good start... Lets see what day 2 brings my way.... ![]()
I did do good on the water yesterday.... and I did 15 minutes of exercise with the tv this morning (got distracted and didn't do the other 15). But.... like you said.... it's a start. It's amazing how when you do a little exercise, you realize how out of shape you really are. Boooooo You know what really stinks? My brother, who is 2.5 yrs younger than me, is exactly a foot taller than me and weighs less than me. He's always been a beanpole. Grrrrr ![]()
I still have half of a key lime pie in the fridge that has to get eaten. Maybe I can get the kids to eat some of it
.
Here's a Bon Jovi story.... my DH called me yesterday on his way home from work to tell me that he was behind (of all people) someone who had JOVIFAN as their license plate. He thought it was funny, and thought of me, of course. All my friends laugh when I show them my fan club card..... I wonder why ![]()
I've got to do something too. I have 3 boys (7, 4, 2) and they each gave me an extra 20-25 lbs
Before I had kids, I was a size 10! Man, I still have my favorite pair of jeans in there that fit me really loose when I was thin. I can't even get them up over my fat
let alone even attempt to zip/button them! After my first, before I got pregnant again, I was back down to 160 lbs, small size 14 and that wasn't terrible but still overweight. I'd kill to be back to that size even at this point. I haven't let anyone take pics of me hardly at all since my 3rd was born. I feel like a cow
I'm kinda embarrassed to be seen in public, like everyone is looking at me, especially when young guys/kids are around as I know that they're probably cracking jokes. I don't know.
I sometimes wonder if I have a hypo thyroid. I lose an awful lot of hair in the shower each day or when I'm brushing and I feel run down tired constantly, no matter how much sleep I get, which isn't much...and the thyroid thing runs in my family too. My husband just got a promotion at work so we'll finally have health insurance next month so I'll have to make an appt then to get it checked out. Luckily, my kids have the state health insurance currently though.
It's also hard to lose weight since I'm always baking! I don't have the time to get out and excercise and I'm so exhausted after baking for the markets that I feel like I've been working out all day! Not only that, if there's a bit of leftover cookie dough or scone dough, etc, I feel compelled to eat it because I hate throwing out food... I also have a bad habit of skipping meals during the day when baking and then making up for it at dinner time. I don't have a problem after dinner but sometimes I do load up at dinner time.
WHat can I do?? ![]()
Oh... I did get diagnosed with a thyroid problem last year. I thought HURRAY!!!!!!! my weight problems are solved!!!! Well.... I've been on the stupid medicine for a year, and other than my hair not falling out anymore (that definitely was a symptom with me)... my weight has not changed. That's been a HUGE disappointment to me. The doctor said some people lose weight real quickly once they get on the right thyroid dose... and some don't. Of course, I'm in the 'don't ' category. Sucks.
I do the same thing with skipping meals. I'm always so focused on the kids and getting them what they need, that I'll look at the clock, and go...oh, it's too late to eat breakfast... too late to each lunch, etc.
Right now I'm just going to focus on water and exercise. I usually drink diet pepsi all day... but I'm TRYing to do water.
I also wanted to recommend www.sparkpeople.com that SS385Monte suggested. I have not done a lot with it myself, but I thought it was a great resource, expecially since it is free! it has the meal planners, exercise program, forums for support, recipes, all sorts of stuff. Just another idea!

Hi Lasombra. Nice to meet you! I may not have the best answers as we are in the same boat, however here are some suggestions...
The symtoms you have seem to be typical to thyroid. I too have it. The faster you see the doc the faster you can balance yourself & hopefully feel much better.
As for not eating left overs, if there is no one eles to eat it, throw it out as throwing out leftovers is much easier than loosing weight . If you feel bad about it, you could always do something nice that will make you feel better, like donate a couple of bucks to your favorite charity $1, $2 or what ever you can...
Hope these suggestions help...

I too was diagnosed with thyroid problems, I took the pill for a little bit but stopped as we were trying to get pregnant, I lost a little weight & baby #2 came long. I really didn't notice much change with the thyroid pill, weight didn't go down & my energy level was still pretty much none. I have been told to stay on it but I'm not a pill taker (I know it's bad).
I made a decent size sign yesterday & put it on the fridge so I can always see it & it's a good rule for the family to go by as well....
The sign says" If a skip a meal or don't eat healthy, it doesn't only affect me" So far any time I see the sign it helps me keep on going....
HTH
The whole thyroid thing really irked me. I stopped taking the pill also---I just hate taking pills for anything (unless, of course, a 'magic pill' comes along that will let me lose all the weight I want!!).
I used to hover right around 145 lbs or so (before kids)... then when we started trying to have kids... I ended up having to go on fertility meds. After that, I just ballooned... and I haven't been able to lose a darn thing.
I only drank one soda today... so that was a good thing for me. We're having a party on Sunday... so I think I'm going to try to be good until then... and then relax a little on Sunday.

Yeah, I just want to feel like myself again. I'm just always feeling run down and such. I looked up hypo thyroidism and I had a few other symptoms as well. I'm looking forward to getting a thyroid test, can't wait to get our new insurance cards!
I'm kinda wondering too though. I've been getting hairs on my chin, which I always did when pregnant but then they'd go away afterward. They haven't gone away and I wonder if that would be hypothyroid or if it could mean it's something else. I know it's typical of menopause but I'm nowhere near that age! I just figure it's hypothyroid because my mom has it and my maternal grandmother had it also...so bad she used to doze off while driving! I do have problems with concentration while driving and other times as well. I feel so stupid sometimes, with my bad memory ![]()
I will give all of you some advice for everyone that is planning on getting your thyroid checked. Get your blood sugars and insulin levels checked as well. When I went in for my annual exam to my obgyn I told her that I thought I was having perimenopausal (sp?) symptoms and I was only 29 at the time. I was moody, had hot flashes, I was so tired all of the time, headaches, lack of focus/motivation, panic attacks, my hair was falling out, and my periods were out of wack. Anyways she sent me to get my thyroid checked along with my sugar and insulin levels. My thyroid was fine, but my insulin levels were too high. Plus my sugar levels were all within range but on the lower side of normal. So you need to be sure to have them check your insulin levels not just the sugar levels. Basically I have hyperinsulinemia which also causes me to be hypoglycemic and now I have to take medication for it. The bad thing about having hyperinsulinemia is it does not allow you to lose weight no matter how much you exercise or diet. It sucks really bad! Since starting the medication my hair has stopped falling out, my moods are better, no more hot flashes, and my periods are getting better. One good thing about the medication I'm on...one of the side effects is weight loss! Good luck everyone on your weight loss! ![]()

Is this related to diabetes??

That's interesting. Mostly because all (and I do mean ALL) of your symptoms that you listed mirrored mine with the hypoglycemia. I know when I went to the doc and they found the thyroid problem, they did check my sugars and insulin, and they were fine. It just seems strange that the symptoms would be the same. Once we sell our other house, I think I might go to the doctor and get this checked again.
I would love to one day just be comfortable enough to wear something other than a big t-shirt.
Well... a new day... just dropped DS off at pre-k (that's getting a little easier on me)... and we have nothing but water to drink....

Sort of. It's not diabetes, but it prediabetes. Basically I caught it before it went in to diabetes. Most people don't catch it until they have full blown diabetes. So I got lucky.
"That's interesting. Mostly because all (and I do mean ALL) of your symptoms that you listed mirrored mine with the hypoglycemia."
When my body produces too much insulin (hyperinsulinemia) it causes me to be hypoglycemic so that's why I was having those symptoms. My pancreas is over compensating for any amount of sugar that I would have in my blood so it would cause my levels to go on the low side.
